Very slow brewing process
Have had this coffee maker for roughly 2.5 years and I would have returned it after using a few times because the brewing process is very slow, but my dear hubby had purchased it as a gift.... The hot plate has cracked. The lid is warped (which makes me concerned that good grade plastic was not used.) The steam while brewing is ridiculously, a LOT and now I'm searching for a new coffee maker because one of our cabinets is showing signs of steam/water damage.

Coffee maker
Works great!!
K-cup debacle
I bought this as a birthday present for my wife. She loves coffee makers and was intrigued by the machine's purported abilities. Unfortunately, we quickly discovered that this is not a 2-way coffee maker. That's because the K-cup feature does not work. Coffee grinds and water go everywhere when you attempt to brew a single serving using a K-cup. It makes a total mess of your machine and countertop. You are also left with a cup of coffee loaded with coffee grinds/sludge. Yuck!! My wife and I have tried it over and over again and the outcome is always the same. We waste a bunch of K-cups and have to do a lot of cleaning. At this point, we have seen enough. We could not be any more disappointed with this purchase. We have never had such a crummy experience with a Hamilton Beach product. From here on out, we will just use the carafe side and give up on inserting K-cups into the single serve side of the machine. Don't be misled by my 1 star rating. If I could have given this a 0 star rating, I would have done so. However, the lowest rating I was allowed to give was a 1 star rating.

Fix your leaking coffee machine
There are only two problems with this coffee maker that prevent it from reaching 5 star status - the heat plate rusts easily and the water riser hose to the spray head pops off. I have fixes for both problems. The first problem can be handled the way you'd treat a steel or cast iron pan. Just rub some grape seed oil on the hot surface of the plate before it cools and eventually it will season the plate like a cast iron pan. The second problem would be a deal breaker for folks that aren't at all handy with tools. When your coffee pot begins to lose all of its water on top of the kitchen counter instead of being poured over the coffee grounds to make your special brew, your riser hose has popped off of the spray head fitting. It's due to a poor choice in hose clamps for this application. The problem is, you cannot reach the fitting without cutting out an access port in the back of the machine. This is easily accomplished with a dremel tool or a hot blade to cut through the plastic. Once you have the access port open, just replace the clamp with a better one you can buy at any auto parts store. It's the size of a fuel line clamp. You should just take the old one with you to the store and buy one like I show in my photos. Instead of throwing away your leaking coffee pot, it will run line new again. I took a piece of black duct tape to cover the opening. It's virtually invisible since it's on the back of the machine anyway.

Single serve side died after a year
This coffee maker worked great for the first year. After one year, however, the single serve side started acting up. It is no longer working, and Hamilton Beach will not do anything about it since the warranty is up. The carafe side still works, but we bought this unit to have both options. Not happy about this brand.
Best Coffeemaker On The Planet!
I was skeptical about buying this, since I usually buy small appliances at brick and mortar facilities, but I am surprised at how awesome a machine this is! One thing I hated about Keurig is that they rely on you leaving the water in it and it heats the water the whole time until you make a cup. The idea is to get you a cup as son as possible, but the waste of energy is absurd. not to mention leaving it on while you are not home. This unit brews a Keurig Cup in 2 minutes and it's every bit as good (if not better) that the Keurig Machine! A feature I discovered was the DIY Keurig Cup! The reusable Keurig Cup filter designed to be loaded with your own coffee! with my coffee mug, which holds approximately 2.5 cups, is given the best cup of coffee I ever tasted with 2 tablespoons of my favorite ground coffee! The carafe option is great if I feel lazy and don't want to deal with making additional cups on a single cup basis. I also keep the Keurig Cups around in case I want it fast and easy! This device has the best of all worlds!
Poor Quality and Poor Customer Service
I have bought two of these. First one lasted about three years. Second only less than six months. Go to their toll free number for warranty and tells you to use website. Not every customer has that access. I do but when go there they tell you to send them an e mail which I did. The K cup side died and despite all my best efforts no way it would pump liquid. Even with out K cup. Will see what they do to make this right. But I am not holding my breath. Very seldom I give a poor review but best look elsewhere for a quality dual coffee maker. Fortunately I saved my old Keurig which I replaced with this as it took up less space than Keurig plus carafe coffee maker. Time break out the old machine!

Just one minor issue.
Just received the coffee maker and am pretty pleased with the first few single brew cups. The one thing that bothered me was there not being a coffee filter for the carafe side of the package. You have to order one as an accessory. I would think that would be included since you cannot use it until you order or go buy one. Other than that I think we will be quite satisfied.
Poor quality - breaks often
I bought this coffee maker a year and a half ago. Within the first month, the single-serve brew basket broke. Being under warranty, the company replaced the parts (but I had to pay shipping). 6 months ago, the pump mechanism stopped working on the single serve side. Having only a 1-year warranty, I was out of luck. I continued to use the maker for the carafe side, which has now bitten the dust as well. It will turn on, but no longer pump water through to brew. If you want to spend more time fixing your coffee maker than drinking your coffee, this machine is for you! Hahaha!
Not really satisfied.
I like the convenience of making a pot or a cup BUT the reason I wanted a new coffee maker so I could have piping hot coffee. This one is no better than my old coffee pot. My boyfriend has a Black and Decker coffee pot that cost only 20 bucks and makes really hot coffee not just barely hot. I wish I had purchased one of those.
