Love this bird feeder

What a fun toy for birders! We love seeing the birds come from the camera angle and the AI identification is great!

Good for a while

Worked great for a while and was really happy with how easy it was and how great the bird footage was. Then all of a sudden one day the motion detection in the camera just stopped working. Contracted Birdfy and they said "yeah it is a common issue". Also the AI identification stopped and when I try to add it back it says I have to pay a monthly subscription even though it was advertised as lifetime AI. Disappointed, would not buy again.

Camera Works But Overall Quality Could Improve

Really cheaply made. Clunky. Camera is good but overall deserves a “D” at best because the plastics are cheaply made. Seriously, Birdfy could do better with its quality. Another issue we had was that this feeder (or any other bird feeder) attracted other unwanted critters such as squirrels, mourning birds, and 3 pairs of pigeons. It became a messy burden - it's really dirty. If you have limited area or concrete, this is not a good idea. If you have a large backyard, then it may work. Love the camera interface and quality of videos, love the birds, and even love the squirrels, doves, etc. but we can't stand the pesky result this camera caused.

Not user friendly if you don't know what u r doing

This is really cool. I bought it as a Father's Day gift and we opened it today. I am extremely tech savvy and the reason I took off a star is that if you don't know what you are doing, this thing is so frustrating. The biggest issue I had, was the internet. My Eero is 5 ghz and this thing will only run on 2.5 ghz. I had to connect it to my "guest wi-fi" which was 2.5ghz. Only figured this out by Googling the Birdfy and Eero functions. The minute I turned it on, it needed a firmware update. Nothing works or updates till you figure out you need the 2.5 ghz. Then the update works. Prior to figuring all this out I would have told you that the screen is black, the app won't work, and the camera won't work. I didn't read through all the reviews but I bet it's the 2.5 ghz issue if someone is having a problem. The app is a little slow. I also have a somewhat blurry camera on the small one that zooms up close. Almost looks like I need to take a plastic cover off of it so I'll have to go check that later. Other than that, it truly does seem really cool and takes good videos and pictures! It also identifies the birds. I had two House Finches and a Cowbird visit right away. Never heard of a Brown Cowbird??

Great concept with poor execution. Bought the device for a Christmas gift, and was hoping to set it up quickly before we had to leave. so first be prepared for 10 hour charging . Next, if you only have 5GHz wifi, it will not work. Finally, the item was defective, and would get back to me within 48 hours for a replacement process, time that we did not have.

Camera will not charge in the cold.

The solar panel will not charge the camera when it gets cold. We got ours as a Christmas present. The first few days, it was warm enough for the camera to charge. Then it turned cold, and the camera stopped charging. I contacted Birdfy support, and they even sent a new solar panel. It was warm the two days after the new solar panel arrived, and the camera charged from the solar panel. It turned cold several days ago, and the camera stopped charging. It took 1/2 hour in the house to start charging last night. The manual says, "When charging, both the ambient temperature and the camera temperature should be above 32° F (0° C). If the camera has been exposed to low temperatures for an extended period, it should be brought back to room temperature before changing." If you live somewhere that it gets cold, plan on bringing the camera in to charge. Also, the AI bird identification is pathetic. It does not take into account where you live. The ranges of Mountain or Black Capped Chickadees are nowhere near where we live; however, it keeps misidentying Carolina Chickadees as Mountain or Black Capped Chickadees. Instead of using their AI, you are better off taking a screenshot and then using the Merlin app for identification.

Great looking, poor software performance and worse

I got this for Mother’s Day. It’s super cute and I was so excited. I spent a couple hours setting it up outside and then started getting the camera hooked up to my phone. I do all the IT type work at my house, this should not be hard. It said the camera needed a firmware update. So I tried updating it. It times out, I tried again. Still nothing would download for the update. I turned it off, I turned my phone off, I removed the ap and rewarded the ap. I tried all the tricks I could think of and the ones google offered. Finally, I broke down and called support. They had me try a hotspot. Still nothing downloading. She said she would have someone else reach out through email. No email came. The next day I sent an email asking for added support, no response to email. I send email again tonight. If I don’t hear back, I’ll just return the device. I’m bummed.

Poor connectivity

I'm sure if my wifi wasn't a dedicated 5GHz it would work fine. In setting it up, you have to supress the 5 GHz to access the 2.4 GHz. That allowed me to continue the set up. I get to the final stage of setting it up which is scanning the large QR code snd says that I'm done, but the app doesn't progress forward. If i go to the Dashboard, it says that I'm not set up and then it complains about my wifi again. Tried working with CS and they basically tell me to do what I've already been doing. Giving up and returning. Opinion, camera needs to work with 5GHz.

Backyard Birding at the Next Level! Great Photos!

The Birdfy 2 Pro is an awesome camera based bird feeder. I have registered up to 175 bird visits per day with it and found it's AI to be very good at identifying birds! If you're looking to find out what's in your backyard this will certainly increase your knowledge and fun with respect to backyard birding! Holds more food than I expected so I don't have to fill it all the time.

The Perfect Gift

I purchased this as a gift for my mother and it has brought so much joy to both of us, as she gets to watch the visitors to her yard and ask me what they are based on the pictures. It's a great opportunity for us to connect throughout the day to discuss who stopped by. While it might be a little difficult to set up initially for those who aren't tech-savvy, once constructed and paired with your device, it couldn't be easier to use. Birdfy's customer service is also very helpful. The solar panel is essential - never need to bring it inside to charge!
