It did not serve my purpose well because of the nature of my leaves. My leaves had small twig-like pieces mixed in from a walnut tree that caused the shredder to clog. I had to keep shutting it off after short runs to clear the debris. I used it for half an hour and when I was done, the cutting strings were half their length from when I started.

Even though everything was aligned properly, one of the two latches that hold the top to the bottom broke when assembling it. Looking at the latch, and being an engineer, I can see it broke due to a stress concentration in the plastic. The latch was not designed very well.

I was looking for something that would shred my kitchen waste more so than leaves..example...lettuce, apples, egg shells..etc. This way I could put it in my composter and it would compost faster. It shredded but I got sprayed by residue that came flying out. Not nice. There is no cover for this so I use a round garbage can cover to avoid getting coated what shoots out. This does not happen when I shred leaves.

Based on the performance of other products we own and the ratings of others, I bought the leaf mulcher. It works great on both wet and dry leaves and shredded what would have been about 8 bags of leaves into a tidy bag and a half! No clogging, just finely shredded mulch. Highly recommend.

This is another one of those products that make me wonder whether the people who engineered and designed it have actually used it. First let me say that it does have a sufficiently powerful motor and does deliver the promised results. Not sure if it is a 16:1 reduction but it turned a big pile of leaves into a finitely mulched small pile so I'm happy with the result. What I'm not so happy with is the amount of time and labor it takes to get there. The fundamental problem is the hopper and feeder chute are too small. Once the leaves get to the trimmer lines it works great but the chute opening is so small that even average size leaves (oak/maple/poplar) clog and have to be forced through it. If there are any small twigs in the mix it jams things up even further. This means that once you fill the hopper with a load of leaves you have to manually push them through the opening before you can put the next load in the hopper. So by the time I put a load of leaves in the hopper, put my leaf grabbers down, pick up a tool to push the leaves through the chute, drop the tool and reacquire your my leaf grabbers, it has taken 30 seconds plus to process one hopper full of leaves. At that rate it would take forever to get through even a modest pile of leaves. This really makes it a two person job, one to load the leaves and one to push them down to the cutting lines with some sort of tool (I used a small 8" hand rake). Still not super fast but better. So while the concept is fantastic, I think the hopper and chute opening really need to be about twice their current size in order for the machine to be effective. While this machine does work and is better than nothing they could have made it much better than they did. Properly engineered I would have given it 5 stars, as it is I have to give SunJoe a failing grade on this product.

Awesome machine. it mulches leaves in not time. No more pressing down on them. the strings are surprisingly durable too. i threw away the legs and just screwed it to a 2x2 plywood, it sits on top of my bins nicely. not too much dust or noise. just stand from the other side of the wind and wear ppe. if you are using the leaf blower you are wearing them already anyways. great piece too, half what other brands cost.

This device is being used to reduce leaves to mulch. The leaves are bepinning to fall and will be finished in a few weeks. The leaves will be used as ground cover/mulch. The advice to wear a face mask and eye protection is correct. Lots of dust is produced. Also a cap should be worn as hair will be full of dust, No problem !.

This product works beautifully. It reduces bulk leaves to minuscule particles. My only wish would be different blades. The string blades do a great job on the leaves but you have to make sure not to put any small branches in the hopper. Stronger, maybe plastic, blades would be nice. Also, a permanent catch bag would be nice instead of the plastic bags. But overall, this is a great product.

My SunJoe was so much fun to use! Wish I had more leaves to mulch. I felt I was winning the battle on getting rid of the leaves. I LOVE the mulch it gave me...great for the garden and flower beds. My sister and daughter got one also and they are as excited as I am. It is a perfect product. Wish I had it years ago. I LOVE IT!

I had high hopes for this shredder. In our yard we have simple leaves and pine needles. The first attempt at shredding them was a dismal failure. Oh, it began spinning and started mulching alright, but within just a few minutes, the unit jammed. Ok, no big deal. We turned it off, un-clumped the jam, and restarted. Less than a minute later, another jam formed. This pattern continued several more times, and after each time, I noticed the mulched leaves to appear coarser than each previous batch. Within a span of 20 minutes, I noticed that the leaves falling into the bag looked very similar to the ones we had dropped into the chute. This was because the strings on this unit that shred the leaves had completely wore away. I understood that the strings would need frequent replacement, but after 20 minutes, on its first use, yet?
