I didn't buy this for making mulch. I bought it to chop hay, for my 29 year old horse. Because of her age, she is left with pretty much no teeth. For her to chew regular hay is nearly impossible and I was looking at having to put her down before winter. I bought this after reading other reviews about how great it works for chopping hay, for older horses. So far, it works great! I use the fine setting to chop alfalfa and grass hay. It looks pretty much like grass clippings when done. The coarse setting makes about 1.5"-2" long stems. It was easy to assemble, with no tools needed. Instead of buying chopped hay, at $15/bag, I can now make my own and hopefully have some more time with my favorite horse - all thanks to this product. I have 4 other senior horses, so this will get lots of use. A little surprise I didn't know is this comes with a 2 year warranty! Also, if you register it online, you get an addition 90 days. That speaks volumes about a company and how much they believe in their product!

I have really been impressed with the Sun Joe Shredder. Since I have an abundance of large trees, I also have and abundance of leaves. It bothered me to see those bags of leaves (fertilizer) going to the landfill. The Sun Joe grinds them up to a little more than dust, and back on my lawn. While it is designed to have a plastic bag to catch the grindings, I just let them fall back on the lawn. I frequently move the machine to spread the grindings over different parts of the lawn.

Easy to assemble and use. On AZ ash tree leaves, the mulcher "balls" up the leaves in the chute and they don't drop through to the bag very easily. Often had to stop and unclog. Mulching created tremendous amount of dust. Tried to slightly dampen leaves and it helped a little but drawback to this is the leaves don't mulch very fine. Not totally disappointed with this unit. It does mulch.

Easy to use. Does a good job especially on dry leaves. Just be careful of sticks. They cut down the life of the cutters.

I grind leaves and garden waste for my compost bin. this is unbelievable. I had it on fine and it ground them down to a powder, even finer then I expected. I fed a 5 gal bucket at a time. and sat the unit in my compost bin. It is light and easy to use. my leaves were moist so I had very little dust. I would buy for friends and family. best way to compost leaves.

Easy to use but uses alot of string. Can use weed eater string. It will take small twigs with ease wet leaves will clog up. All in all it's a great item to have

Great product as long as expectations are reasonable! This is basically a super-duper string trimmer on steroids! Does a wonderful job on leaves and twigs, but has trouble with larger branches. I used it to shred leaves to add organics to a new garden spot and I am more than pleased with its performance. Hard to beat for the price!!! Just moved from a 20 acre farm to a suburban neighborhood, have a lot of experience with power tools, and wish I had discovered this product sooner!!

Bags fill fast with leaves this machine chops them up so you have less bags. If you have several trees bushes you can have up to 22 paper bags full. It saves money and time putting all bags to curb also a lot of people dont have room to store all those bags in garage not to get wet before pickup

Bought this item to shred bales of wheat straw abd cane for mulch and compost tumbler. Works great. I use a 12 gauge cord for power per instuctions. Would recommend wearing a face mask and of course eye protection as this thing gets with it. Very happy with it so far

My 20 y.o. Flowtron"s motor burned out so I researched and bought this. Quite easy to assemble and shreds quickly and smaller pieces than I was used to - think this .10 string is surprisingly better than Flowtron's .08. Also loved the Walmart price. It has been run ~ I hr. Would buy again but wish 1) there was provision (at least a hook) for storing string, googles, etc., 2) the outside dimension was a bit wider so the legs cleared my 30 gal trash can, 3) the depth is quite shallow vs. Flowtron so is easy for fingers to inadvertently hit the string, and 4) the motor extending below the shell so if using without legs, it will rest on the motor housing rather than plastic shell. It is a shame these issues exist, but I sure like everything else so far.
