Automatic backup power is what I was looking for.

I'm excited about my back up generator having the automatic switch over feature. It is user friendly with an easy to read screen that prompts me of warnings, maintenance, or informational message.

Ready for anything!

Now I have piece of mind that I will be able to be comfortable and safe in my own home if we have power outages. The automatice transfer switch makes it so easy!

Don't Wait...Buy Your Generac NOW!!

We average 15-20 days a year of power outages and had finally made the decision to buy a generator. My husband is a general contractor and after much research, decided on a Generac Guardian Series 20kw. It was installed three days before Christmas which was a good thing because the power went out on Christmas day and did not come back on for 5 days. Within 5 seconds of the power outage, the Generac kicked in and powered our entire house. We didn't miss a beat...everything ran as though there was not an outage. Unbelievable. The only way we knew the power came back on was the Generac shut off. It runs very quietly so it took diligent listening to even know that it was no longer running. Do I recommend the Generac to power your house an outage? You bet! My only regret is that we didn't buy one sooner.

This unit does everything we needed in a generator.

After Hurricane Katrina and no electricity for weeks, we felt we needed a whole house generator. This model fills the bill. We've had frequent outages since the storm and when it goes out we can depend on 15 seconds and the generator kicks in. I've needed service one time and the service tech was knowledgable and courteous.

problems with the motherboard

This series evidently has a major problem with the control system. This year,(the generators second) we got a status alert code "Inspect battery." Knowing that these machines cycle the battery very seldom compared to an automobile I knew this was suspect. The technician replaced it anyway.Wrong. "Inspect Battery." Tech replaced mastercontrol module motherboard. Fine. Six months later...the exact same problem.

Great peace of mind, but a few flaws

I live in an area plagued with power outages and it's great to know I have My Generac 20kw backing me up. Mine runs on natural gas though, and it will not run in the quiet test mode. The dealer just turned that feature off.I would also like to see a change in the way the heat exhausts. As it is now,it kills the surrounding grass.

One of the best investments we ever made!

We bought the 20KW unit with the automatic switcher after having been over 7 days without power due to a major ice storm in single digit weather. I use a Bi-Pap machine due to severe sleep apnea... along with a Oxygen generator too and I was absolutely miserable for that week. Adding to this health hazard, our house is virtually total electric.. stove, oven, the central heat's blower. We also had a major issue in keeping our water pipes from freezing in the laundry room located in the garage and in the bathrooms & kitchen located along outer walls! We spent close to $700 that week on battery's, canned goods, lanterns, cases of 16 oz propane bottles & gallons of fuel, candles, a camp cook stove and a host of related items. That money would have gone a long long way toward a good generator like a Generac Generator! After that, we said, "Never [ever] Again!!!!!!" I went to the local Locke's Electrical wholesale store and bought the Generac 20KW with the auto switching box that feeds into the main breaker box.... because it was large enough to run our entire 1,800 square foot house, as well as the 2 out building & the outdoor security lights. The instant the utility power goes out... the unit comes on and approx. 12 seconds later we have full power again. When the utility power is restored.. it switches over so fast that the television & computer doesn't even flicker. I had a independent 1" natural gas line run to the unit so it maintains correct pressure even with the gas hot water heater & the central gas heat running at the same time. With a simple flick of a switch, I can switch over to a 100 gallon back-up propane tank in the unlikely event that the natural gas were to fail. Once a week it comes on at half speed and self diagnoses itself & circulates the oil. In the 2 yrs we have had the generator.. it has gotten us through a number of power outages due to blown transformers caused by squirrels & snake on the lines .. through several brown outs & wind / tornado storm damage to lines in the area. It is extremely quiet.. It is 4 feet from a bed room wall and we can barely hear it run. A major plus is you don't have to store gas that can go 'bad' over time nor go stand in line at a filling station. I highly recommend the Generac brand generator to everyone. It self diagnoses itself, charges its own battery, circulates the oil and even it tells you on the computer screen if it needs any kind of service.. such as a oil or filter change. It has a 120 volt power outlet on the outside under a cover. The housing on my unit is aluminum with a tough epoxy resin paint and looks very nice. In a SHTFan situation... as long as you have natural gas or propane available... you will always have electricity too. Living like a pioneer family of the early 1800's on the plains during a winter blizzard for a week is something we will never have to do again. I regularly say, "Thank you, God!" when I walk by the generator.

excellent for entire house backup

Have had it for a year and a half and it's worked well. The only problem was getting the battery charger to work initially, but that was an installer issue. Great "insurance policy" considering we have an all electric house-no gas or LP appliances, are on a well, and the worst season is very hot and humid. So, going without AC would be very painful for any extended time period.

One of the better insurance policies everyone should have!

I live in a rural area and I never had a problem with power outages until the community began to grow and the power company "enhanced" the local grid/infrastructure. We have horses, and we must have water from our well for the horses. We also require power to keep the water trough heaters and stall bucket heaters running to prevent freezing water in the winter. I also work out of my home office and cannot chance losing power or internet access. When I have to travel for my job, I do not have to worry about power outages and calling a neighbor to get a portable generator connected and filled with gas. As you can see, I can provide many reasons why a unit as this is my personal insurance policy that gives me peace of mind; it powers my entire home and my barn. I do not regret purchasing this unit. Recently my trickle charger failed (and has now been replaced) but that is the only issue that I have had.

Good looks quiet

Did not make an eye sore on the side of house like others I have seen. Quiet operation. Don't even hear it running when in house. Much smaller than I had anticipated. The best thing about this generator is the peace of mind that I won't be with out power when its 0 or 100 degrees outside and I will have water all the time.
