Hurricane/Tropical Storm Sandy

I had my 20kw Guardian installation finished on Friday 10/26, Sandy hit NJ on Sunday 10/28. Talk about close. My Guardian kicked on promptly and has been running since. It's still running now as my power isn't expected to come back on until 11/7 and that's not even a definite. My entire house is running as if the power was restored. It was a sizable investment but my wife now thanks me for taking the plunge. I could care less when the power restores, however, I am concerned about my gas bill after all is said and done. I would purchase this machine again in a heartbeat. Great peace of mind.

Great features - its "whole house" capability!

My sense of security is immeasurable - because my generator is in place! No longer being in an age group which enjoys "roughing it," I try as much as possible to stack survival odds in my favor. James Gatto, Electrical Contractor (and his crew) did a marvelous job of installing my 20KW beauty. His professionalism, workmanship and willingness to explain the whole operation built my confidence in the whole operation. Based on my experiences with my Generac, I believe you should do a whole marketing project about generators to senior citizens, maybe through AARP, or Aging-In-Place programs. I loved your ad about DID-YOU-HAVE-A-STORM-LAST-NIGHT....SORRY-I-DIDN'T-NOTICE....That sums up my feelings nicely!!

The unit has been good.

Had the 20 k for over a year. It does not have any surg protection so a minor electric strike can be very costly. The contolling devices are all intergrted so there is no option other than replacement of the whole control unit at a signicicant cost. The installation is a challenge since there is not very much room to receive the necessary wire. Other then these details the unit runs good and has been trouble free. To be a top notch unit Generac should provide as an option surge protection, consider discrete components and provide a little more room to get those wires installed.

10 Days of Sandy and still running strong

After the Halloween Storm and Irene in 2011 I decided it was time to get a standby generator. Then along came Sandy, I never dreamed that we would need it for 10 days and it ran flawlessly! i calculated that it was using only 1.3 gallons of propane per hour! I just checked the oil a few times and that was it. People thought I was crazy getting this generator and now they all want to get one. Best investment I made for my home.

Works perfectly, looks great!

Ordered the unit........which was back-ordered for some time, then Generac called us to let us know it was being shipped, then delivery came with a phone call the day before to verify location and .enable us to schedule being there for the arrival. This was very helpful. The install went smoothly, and the unit looks really great, runs flawlessly in every aspect. There was a good deal of time in the entire process of the install, a site was prepped, a slab was poured, the propane tank was exchanged for a larger one, the concrete cured, the unit was placed on it. ( We lifted the unit on it's pallet with the tractor with twin hay fork/pallet forks and then tilted it slightly after unbolting the unit from the pallet, and then slid it gently down and onto the slab quite easily, we're in the horse business, so we did this part ourselves having the tractor etc). We would recommend highly having professionals do the install. A new LP line was ran to the generator with a new regulator. We knew a master electrician, and he came out and looked at what we had, ordered the conduit and line for the hookup, then the next week the hookup was done and all has worked fine since then,. He appreciated the transfer switch that came with the unit, a well designed arrangement that simplified his work. Also, the warranty does not start at the date of the actual purchase or delivery..... it begins when all hookups are complete and it is fully operational and ready for service....Outstanding!! We live not only in the south "tornado alley", we are in a very rural area, we are also on a very long "run" on the power line situation, and limbs, trees, etc get on this during wind events and off goes the power, sometimes for 2 or 3 days. In addition, we are sometimes subject to severe ice storm events, with the power out for perhaps 10 days or so. It is so marvelous to have the capacity now to keep our rural well water flowing for our home and the animals, and keep my spouse's CPAP medical airway device running should the power go off while we sleep.... not to mention the fact that the home and barn run seamlessly, we have running water, heat or air-conditioning, Internet, hot water, pellet stove, cooking, laundry capabilities...everything simply works as tho nothing whatever was out of order. No worries about running only this or only that, it runs everything smoothly, not a flicker on electronics. We considered converting to LP cook-top, oven, hot water heater.. the cost would have been about the same as the generator, with no well pump, no lights, no TV or Internet etc.. so this decision was so the best we have made in forever, for our personal comfort, our business with the horses, our sanity and health! Now when we are gone for a few days for a ride or competition, the power outages at home will not cause the ruin of the freezer(s) and refrigerator, and water can be provided for the animals at our farm. We hunt, and have quite a bit of meat from time to time as well as the beef we raise that we put in the freezer. Now that is a precious commodity, and is now safeguarded by our wonderful generator setup. Now when the power goes off at night, we hear the hum of the generator come on , stretch and yawn, commenting "power's off" and go back to sleep! Don't you know that the neighbors that are trying to run extension cords to the portable generators and getting rained on etc might be a tad envious! Hey, that was us, for years and years! Do this, you will be enhancing the value of your home and have such peace of mind. We are truly thrilled!

Early failure but not warrantied

My unit failed it's first major outage because of an assembly error. Unit had 32 hours on it with most of that scheduled, but was barely out of warranty. Cost $421 for certified rep to find problem and then properly install breather mechanism to prevent oil from flooding the air intake box.

Just finished 12 days of flawless power after Sandy

After last year's hurricane here on Long Island knocked out power for several days leaving our sump pumps useless, we purchased the 20k unit...couldn't have imagined it would be running for 12 days straight less then a year later! Our power does get knocked out pretty regularly, and just last month the unit was running for 5 hours. I recently had the radio remote installed, right by my home alarm keypad. I'd highly recommend it, as it gives you the added peace of mind knowing the unit is ready to go without going outside and opening up the unit. Excellent unit, would highly recommend it.

Powered the whole house for 4 days

Just had power restored post hurricane Sally In Mobile AL. Unit ran like a champ 24 hours a day for 4 days. Powered the whole house plus a free standing freezer. Neighbors are shopping for one! Highly recommend. I do have a maintenance contract with the installer to make sure it's always ready.

Excellent generator

My parents purchased this after the big wind storm in June left them without power for 8 days. When Sandy took their power on Monday, the generator started right up and ran for 6 days. It kept my parent's heat pump and anything else they wanted to run on. Overall a great product and great peace of mind.
