We installed our 20kw system as part of our new homes basic configuration. Soon after registering it Generac emailed a request for our review. That was over a year ago. I did not reply since I had so little direct experience at the time all it would have been was a feel good piece. That situation has now changed. Yes over the last 22 months the generator has come on, excercised and shut down. That changed last winter (2011) when we had snow on the ground and a 3 day outage. We now have just had commercial power restored after a full (less 8 hours) 5 day outage (Jun 29, 2012) in near 100 degree heat. The system, which is connected by a load-shed-panel, ran everything including the geothermal hvac, well, and all house appliances including the stove on a 2800 square foot residence. Our decision to install the load-shed turned out to be the key to letting a 20kw unit handle this much load. It was a pricie transfer switch but now has demonstrated its worth the money. We are rural, in a small residential area that gets service last in an outage. We are pleased that our planning validated itself and, our neighbors appreciate that we could help them with water and freezer space. We have listened to all the moaning and groaning as the TV folks broadcast the tales of woe from around the DC area and simple wonder why people don't look out for themselves - it's either a mystery or stupid - The message: plan ahead - project your needs and don't shortcut your solution.

Just finished going thru the worst storm in New Jersey's history. (Hurricane Sandy)I can't praise Generac and it's product enough!! It kept my family sane after going 2 weeks without power. I had it installed 7 months prior due to two previous 1 week outages. As soon as the power went out it worked flawlessly for a whole week, I turned it off for 1/2 hour after a week to change the oil and filter and ran it for an additional week with no problem. I can't thank Generac enough for the the great products they sell and for their customer service!! What a great company! Much suscess to this company and their products.

Here in Alantic County, Nj.on June 30th 2012 we had a freak storm that popped up out of no where, high winds 70 mph+ knocked down trees and killed power for 5 days to nearly a million homes.Let me tell you it was the hottest days of the summer and with no AC it was miserable, needless to say the amount of food that was spoiled in the freezer was costly. I decided that i was not going to go through that again. So i purchased this product online Aug 19th, 2012. It was delivered 2 weeks later and installation was complete 2 weeks after. Hurricane Sandy hit us on the Jersey shore Oct 29 and wreaked havoc as you all well know. I was fortunate enough not to sustain any water damage but the winds and falling trees knocked out power. This generator powered up my whole house in 15 seconds. I didn't have to worry about anything. The utility power was restored 6 hours later. It could have been worse where as millions are still without power as i type this. I am glad to say that this was one of the best investments ever. I also purchased the the wireless remote monitor display so i'm able to view generator history/any faults/eng rpm/gen parameters. This is a nice unit, get one you'll be glad you did.

Hello, Generac! I wanted to write a real recommendation of your 20kW natural gas powered Guardian generator. I live in Northern NJ and over the past three years my power has been going out often, for extended periods. An incredible amount of water runs under my home so I have two sump pumps set up to avoid ruining my finished basement. In addition, I have a 1 year old whom I have had to relocate with my wife during power outages in the past, which was inconvenient. During power outages in the past, I would sit with my gasoline powered generator and extension cords to my pumps and refridgerators in a cold house with my dog, living like a caveman. After the hurricane and freak Halloween snow storm we received in 2011, I ordered the 20kW Generac. It was installed in March of 2012. Well, Hurricane Sandy came and sure enough the power went out. I was nervous because this was it's first real test other than the weekly 12 minute maintence cycle. To everyone's dismay, the power ended up out for 11 DAYS! Well, my new Generac did not disappoint. 15 seconds after the power went out, the generator started right up. It ran the entire time, powering my entire house and allowing me to keep the heat on, the water flowing and the lights on. Not to mention, we were blocked in by fallen trees and I could not relocate my wife and son if I wanted to for the first days. I stopped it only to check the oil every day and to change the oil when 200 operation hours approached. I am officially a Generac fan and want to thank you for making such a dependable machine. Keep up the good work!

Stop procrastinating. You need to buy this generator. Sandy dealt a hefty blow leaving parts of New Jersey without power for 14 straight days. My neighbors with their gasoline powered generators had to deal with the gas shortage and resorted driving long distances to avoid the 2 to 4 hour wait to get gas. The reality is long power outages are the norm, not the exception. Buying this generator is an investment in your family's comfort, safety and sanity.

The electrical installation of the generator has just been completed. However, it has not yet been started up as the fuel installation has not been completed. Therefore it is too soon to evaluate the overall quality. I have used a GP5500 portable generator (more than 300 hours) for the past 6 years and have found it to be a reliable work-horse.

Just got power from the AEP grid after 7 days without. The 20kw generator powered my whole house central air conditioning, electric dryer and normal house functions. This two year old unit performed wonderfully! This was 7 days with temps between 95 and 103 degrees! Highly recomend!

We were looking for a generator that would take care of our entire home without the need for extension cords and countless gallons of gasoline. This Generac 20KW is well worth the cost. We are secure in knowing that any power interruption will be automatically taken care of whether we are home or not. Our installer, Diversified Electric LLC, of PA did an excellent job and did so while keeping us informed at every step of the process. Excellent communication and knowledge of the product. The Generac 20KW fits very nicely into our existing landscape and looks as if it were always there. The cabinet design enables it to blend in very nicely. The unit runs relatively quiet. It is not very noticeable from within the house while running. It recently went through an exercise cycle while we were entertaining and it was hardly audible from within our home. We are confident that this unit will more than definitely fill our needs.

Installed about 8 months ago (2010) Love my generator but had some problems with a ''low Voltage'' RED warning which stops the generator from working in a power outage or on the weekly self-test. 5 times out of 10 it stopped hence made the generator completely useless when I needed it the most. After 4 visits from the dealer (great service, always available), Generac issued it seems a notice about this problem…Seems the fault was a faulty main panel computer. Since the dealer changed the faulty panel, I never experienced any problem...works great now and no other issues…hope it lasts. Paul

We have at last been able to get our Generac activated. Delays due to hurricanes in the area made installation take from July to end of Oct to complete. Nothing to do with Generac but with permits etc. Once activated, started right up. And it tested itself last night as scheduled. Sincerely hoping I never have to use it but now feel prepared.
