We had our Generac 20kW and whole house switch installed in March 2014. Ever since the install we have been hoping for the power to go out (strange yes but wanting to test the investment). Finally the power went out during a thunderstorm Sept. 1st. The generator started confidently just like it does on it's weekly exercise runs. We were so pleased that we did not need to drag out the old portable generator. During the 6 hours of outage we ran, 3 TVs, 3 computers, the dishwasher, the AC, 2 fridges, 1 freezer, the sump pump, the well pump, the garage door and almost every light in the house at varying times. The Generac never missed a beat and was so quiet when it was time for bed nobody complained like they did with our old portable. Fantastic product. Exactly why my parents and in-laws installed their's a few years ago.

When there is bad weather with trees down and the power is off, I get called out on storm work. Leaving my Wife, Son & Mother-in-law in the dark was not an option, so I started to shop for a whole house generator. I found Generac to be a quality product for fair money. The only thing that should be improved on is their installation instructions. There isn't a knock out for main electrical conduit. This is not discussed in the instructions. I called a local contractor and he let me know what I had to do. I got the impression from the vague instructions that Generac does not want home owners installing their Generators. All in all the generator works great, I highly recommend this product to all who want peace of mind.

Outstanding!! Highly recommend. We bought a farm back in 2019 that had a generac 20kw generator already installed and on use, score!! Going through the records on the unit found it to be a 2013 model with low hours on it, score! Did all maintenance on the unit since I wasnt sure of the last time it was done. Unit does its weekly 15 minute run, no issues. Just had a big storm come through northern illinois that knocked out power to tens of thousands of people and within seconds our generac is on and running. Power was out for over 26 hours, generator ran without a hitch for my families safety and comfort. Powered by our LP tank we were set for whatever mother nature dishes out. Thank you Generac for keeping my family safe and warm. Would recommend this to ANYONE ANYWHERE!

My family and I live in Port Washington, New York. My husband and I have a 4 year old daughter and a two year old son. In December 2013, we had a Generac 20 kilowatt generator installed. It was installed by Home Run Electric, also located in Port Washington, New York. The generator is located more than 5 feet from our house and passed inspection by Nassau County. The generator is less than 3 years old and has been utilized for less than 38 hours total. It is still under Generac's warranty. On Thursday, July 14, 2016, we lost power following a thunderstorm. The generator turned on and began running our house. Within 2 hours, the alarm on one of our carbon monoxide detectors went off. We grabbed the kids out of bed, put them in the car and called 911. The Port Washington fire department immediately detected carbon monoxide throughout our entire house, with the highest level in our two year old son's bedroom. The fire department spent 3 hours in our house, with gas masks on. They investigated and shut the generator off. After the 3 hour investigation, they determined that the generator was producing too much carbon monoxide. Outside of the house, in the open air next to the generator, the fire department got a reading of 10 parts per million of carbon monoxide. The 2 fire chiefs informed us that a reading that high outside in the open air was highly unusual and too high. The house has central air and our son's room has a window air conditioning unit. The fire department believes that the increased level of carbon monoxide from the generator was being sucked into the window air conditioning unit, even though that unit was located on the second floor of the house, 20 feet from the generator. Our son was tested by the paramedics and had a carbon monoxide level of 8, way too high for a 2 year old. He was placed on oxygen and his level went back to normal. The fire department was not able to bring the level in the house down to 0 until 12:30 am. The fire chief told us that we are alive because we had carbon monoxide detectors in our house. The generator is currently turned off and we have no interest in having it reactivated. Although obviously everything could have been much worse, it feels like we survived a nightmare and we have not been able to sleep since that night. Many of our neighbors also have Generac generators and everyone is concerned about their safety following this incident.

This is the best standby generator on the market available. I have my entire home and shop connected. When the generator is running my home and shop there is no break or dimming of power. It's as if the regular electric is still on. I have such piece of mind because this generator is so reliable. Also the noise is so low that I can barely hear it running. I am a Disabled Veteran and need a standby generator to run certain medical equipment. If you are looking for a standby generator, look no further. This is the one you want!!!!!

We purchased this unit for complete house power when an outage occurs. My wife and I both work from home and I was getting tired of setting up and putting away the portable generator every time the power went out. It was also not "Wife Friendly". After choosing a dealer off of the Generac's dealer list we decided to go for it. Everything went flawlessly the first time around. During the operational testing, when the electricians and Utility reps were there, we kept turning more things on attempting to max it out. We had more things on at once than we would ever use during real life use and it handled it without problems. We are on the end of the power line and are one of the last homes to get power restored during an outage. We also purchased the Nexus Wireless Monitor and are happy with it but only wished it had the ability to turn the generator off from inside of our home in case of an emergency. We are very happy with the ease of installation and the generator itself and would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone. Bottom line: This was not an inexpensive proposition, but now we have peace of mind.

I am an electrical contractor and did a lot of research before purchasing a generator. The 20 KW Generac seemed to fit my needs.I have two 2 1/2 ton ac units,well pump,2500 sq ft home.I walked from one end of my house to the other end during a storm and we had lost of power. Not even knowing I had lost power. About an hour into the storm one of my neighbors came over and wanted to know why we had power and the whole street did not.I did not even know the power went out.The generator had started and never missed a beat. Great unit.

I installed the natural gas operated 20kw Guardian series generator in early June and had the opportunity to put it in use during and after Hurricane Irene. It ran continuously for five days and more than meet our needs for electrical service during the time. It's an enormous and positive step above a portable for home service.

We live in an older neighborhood with overhead utilities and many large, old trees. We have experienced many power outages - from a few minutes to entire days. With the Generac we no longer worry about whether we will have power. The 20kw model runs the whole house (including HVAC, electric dryer, and ovens). When we lose utility power the generator comes on in about ten seconds and picks up the load in about 20 seconds. I don't know how we lived without it!

this product was the only one I would install because of it repletion for great service in all weather and ease of install and service.
