The product overall is very good. However, the generator would repeatedly shutdown during its weekly exercise run with an error warning. Generac diagnosed the problem as having to do with software. They published a new software version and the dealer promptly came out and replaced the controller with a new controller programmed with the updated code. It now works as designed. Overall it is a well engineered and manufactured item.

I researched many different brands and even though some other brands have a 5 year warranty and Generac a 3 year, I still think that Generac provides more value for the money. My installers (Long Electric Frederick, MD and Southern States Petroleum) did an excellent job. The testing of the unit not only ran my whole house but with the base board heat and a/c on at the same time with the dryer, oven, stove top burners, toaster oven, microwave oven and all the lights in the house on provided enough electricity to even run the hot water heater and well pump. The noise level seems to be no more than the a/c compressor when running. Have not had an opportunity yet to see it work in an actual power outage. I would recommend this to anyone with an average 200 amp service. I purchased two 100 gal. propane tanks which will enable me to purchase propane from anyone I want but for now will stay with Southern States.

Has aways started when needed, once during a tornado! Com Ed can be awfull at times. If you call, all you get is a recording. We should all realize one thing, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. We run web servers so a generator is just flat out required. This spring, after a storm, we were down for 36 hours straight. The neighbors hated us as they watched their freezers melt down. The only thing we don't have, that would be nice, is some kind of network interface for the unit's status. Maybe could catch a problem before it fails when needed.

We have had our Generac for two years. It is well worth its price. We can run the entire house when the power is out. In the past we had to drag the portable unit out of storage, usually when it was raining, and hook it up to where we needed it. The convenience of having an automatic generator is unmeasurable.

We bought this 20KW Generac for peace of mind. We can rest assured that in the event of loss of power we will have no worries. The electrical contractors were efficient and knowledgeable about the product and installation. The installation was professional, the crash course was well explained, good service and easy to use. Money well spent!

With 18 inches of snow on the ground we received 8 inches of rain in one weekend. I had 4 pumps running in the sump and was keeping up with the water until the power went out for 6 hours. It cost me thousands in damage and lost work time, and I vowed never again to let it happen. I researched and decided on the Generac 20kw with smart switch and used my tax return to pay for it. One week after installation we had a power outage for 2 hours and the Generac kicked on and kept the basement dry. Then during Hurricane Irene, with the driving rain the power went out for 9 hours. For a moment there was that anxious pause, then the Generac fires up and all is well. All my neighbors now plan on buying generators and I recommend Generac.

The only reason i didn't rate this perfectly is because we have never had a power outage since we installed it. But, it sure is reassuring to hear it start up every Wednesday at 3:00 PM and run through its self check list. We will have our first service tomorrow and we don't expect any problems.

Every week when the Generac does its scheduled test run, I like hearing the steady thrumming sound -- it spells security. We've had the generator for nearly a year and it has run flawlessly through a couple of outages (several hours in duration). The unit looks good and our dealer did an outstanding job of installing it -- very neat and professional.

Because we live in a rural area, we installed a Generac 20kW unit in June 2010 following an electrical power outage the previous February that lasted 9 days. The local dealer was excellent to deal with, on-site inspection prior to installation determined need & size to consider. We have almost whole house electrics on this unit with exception of electric clothes dryer and electric stove. Unit tests itself each Monday night for 12 minutes on schedule and we have had three power failures that caused unit to do what it is supposed to do. The best sound for a homeowner is the sound of the generator running. Local dealer provides twice a year servicing. No worries for us and the unit/provider are the best. Have recommended Generac to neighbors.

We are very happy with our Generac generator. After the last horrible winter we had and trying to keep our portable generator going in the extreme temps every time our power went out decided us it was time for an automatic back up generator. It is nice to have the peace of mind not to have to worry any more.
