Worked pretty well during hurricane

We had installed the generator this August 2012 after what happened with hurricane Irene last year. Then almost the same time that the winter storm from 2011 occurred, we had to contend with hurricane Sandy in 2012. Our power went out on Monday evening, 29 October and came back on Thursday morning, 1 November. The generator worked flawlessly - it's nice to know it's there and that it worked. Glad we invested on the generator - now all our friends and neighbors are getting one or planning on getting one as well.

Not a good experience after 10 days

We bought this unit after Hurricane Irene hit the Jersey Shore in 2011. It started right up after Sandy downed trees in our area. We followed all of the service recommendations exactly ... changed the oil and filter after 200 hours and in the meantime shut the unit down for an hour each day, and made certain the oil level was good. The unit failed after 10 days. We were getting an 'underspeed' or 'overspeed' fault. I'm sure that we will get this resolved but I can't recommend this product because I could not rely on it during a major power outage.

AN INVESTMENT WORTH EVERY PENNY

We live in NJ and our town was without power for 5 days after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the state. The generator (installed March 2012) automatically kicked in within minutes after the power went out. We have a 3 story colonial and we were able to run all appliances (refrigerator/freezer; extra outside freezer; mini refrigerator; heating system; sump pumps, etc.) with no problems at all during those 5 days. We have young children and it was very cold during that time period. So we were thankful to have the generator. I highly recommend this product!!! It saved us a lot of heartache in the Sandy aftermath.

Thought this was the right generator.... but

The generator was brand new the day before Sandy struck and the fan blew into pieces when it was first started. I was thankful that I didn't lose power this time. It took 4 days for a fan to be installed. The fan caused dents in the generator housing that I guess I have to live with. The generator had about 24 hours of emergency power usage and the computer didn't start as programmed on a Sunday afternoon. The computer had failed and had to be replaced. 4 more days out of service. Recently I lost power for an hour the generator started and there was no transfer of power to the house. They spent 3 hours troubleshooting and throwing parts at it and it still doesn't work. I spend almost 10 grand on the entire installation. I hope it works when we need it...An extended warranty is out of the question.

Great Product

We have had our Generac for two years. It is well worth its price. We can run the entire house when the power is out. In the past we had to drag the portable unit out of storage, usually when it was raining, and hook it up to where we needed it. The convenience of having an automatic generator is unmeasurable.

The generator has good features.

My husband works for the power company, so when the power is out I'm always on my own. We have had the generator installed now for about a year and we haven't had a power outage, but the features make it easy for me to check the status of everything myself. I like that it tests itself weekly to make sure that it is running properly. Every so often we cut the main power just to make sure that the transfer switch will do what it's supposed to do. This generator was a good investment. Even if we never need it, it was money well spent to have peace of mind.

Service peovider made this a great product

Very happy with this generator. it handles the load with no problems. I know that this system will give me great service as the installers did a great job and you would not know that it was just installed. I do like the low noise level on this 20 KW. When in the house you would not know you are on backup power. This generator is one that you can buy and know you have purchased a very good quality generator

Money well spent

We bought this 20KW Generac for peace of mind. We can rest assured that in the event of loss of power we will have no worries. The electrical contractors were efficient and knowledgeable about the product and installation. The installation was professional, the crash course was well explained, good service and easy to use. Money well spent!

Flawless

The 20k has worked flawlessly through its first winter. The self-test runs weekly as expected, and the generator has covered half a dozen multi-hour and multi-day outages over the last year. I work at home and it has allowed me to keep deadlines even during severe weather.
