While this charcoal might not have the largest chunks, there are plenty of reasons to like it. This stuff burns hot and long. The pieces are closer consistency in size to eachother, so you likely will not have to move it around during long cooks. Every piece of this charcoal will burn! I've gone 16 hours at 250° with two chimneys of this lump in my kamado. I will definitely continue to buy bags!

My family and I have used many brands of charcoal before, but after trying The Good Charcoal I don’t see myself using anything else. I picked up a bag after reading what was advertised on the front and was impressed. I was initially worried about the size of the chunks after reading some of the reviews but found it not to be an issue when grilling. They last a LONG time. Love that they support local communities, and that the product actually comes from an invasive bush they are removing to support the survival of wildlife.

Clean, hot and efficient! From starting my first chimney of coal, I noticed that it didn’t give off a lot of bad dark smoke like other brands and briquettes do. Then in about 15 minutes my coals were ready to dump! Much faster than others and it made great sear marks on my steaks! When I used it to smoke, I used about 2lbs with some applewood, and after 9 hours there was still about. 3/4 of a pound left! Best deal available in charcoal. The pieces, while smaller are fairly consistent for lump compared to others where I would pull out pallet pieces or half a log!

I purchased twenty bags of this charcoal last fall. Having used three bags and just opening the fourth, all I can say is this charcoal is trash. While each bag contains a few pieces larger than a golf ball, the remainder consists of small pieces - too small to put in a fire starter or firebox as they fall through the grates. I have to line the starter or firebox with conventional briquettes and place this small trash on top. The only way to use this stuff is combined with briquettes or a better quality lump charcoal. Fortunately I bought it on sale for under $5 a bag. Even at that price it is not worth it. Seeing so many Sam's reviews about the small pieces causes me to wonder if The Good Charcoal Company provided Sam's with trash they would not sell to another distributor so Sam's could sell it for less than other big box stores. Stay away from this stuff.

I’ve been using TGC Lump charcoal for going on 2 years now and I have been very pleased with its performance. As a backyard bbq cook as well as a competitive bbq cook I have used it in many different types of cookers under different conditions and it has yet to let me down. It burns hot and clean at a great price point.

I have been using The Good Charcoal for well over a year now. I was so excited to see Sam's carrying it! I am an avid BBQer and I have tried so many brands of charcoal. I love that this brand truly is 100% chemical free. I also appreciate their values as a company. I see quite a few reviews with complaints about the size of the lump. The size has never negatively impacted my cooks in anyway. IT IS in fact a denser wood then other lump that I have used. It burns quite a bit longer and hotter then other traditional lump charcoal. I can say this with certainty because I've be tried a side by side cook with another brand and The Good Charcoal was hands down the winner!

Company recently listened to customer feedback and adjusted the screener to sort bigger, more uniform pieces. Burns even, hot, and lasts a looong time. 100% natural, no additives. Just overall EXCELLENT charcoal. Highly recommended and this is coming from a Certified Executive Chef!

I see a lot of reviews talking about small chunks, but I’ve had nothing but good cooks with this stuff. With other brands you can smell the chemicals, not with this charcoal. This burns very clean and hot. I will be using again.

Through out 2022 Picked up about 15 bags of this great quality charcoal burns good some small pieces and large pieces in the bag I highly recommend it
