Experience with the irs tax application went ok, with some challenges. I did file the federal return electronically. My experience with the Pennsylvania tax return was the worst. I tried many times to e-file in Pennsylvania and simply could not. In a last ditch effort I tried again and again to file by mail and there to it was a disaster. The forms to file were not correct and when I attempted to pull up a print PA 1040 (their main page), the system would not allow me to print it. The forms I was able to get did not even include even the page that required our signatures.

Have used TurboTax for many years with sterling results and as easy an experience as taxes could be. However, ran into some disappointing aspects this year. I purchased the desktop version and after (trying) to install, TurboTax insisted on directing everything to the On-line product. It fooled me into even transferring the 24 return info. A very frustrating time until I finally got the desktop version to be active and ask for the license code! Then it went relatively well until the State return. Seemed to download that Ok, but where in the past TurboTax led the way on entering the subtractions for California income, it did not perform. Finally had to enter info via the forms. Even then, the proper tax was not calculated for some reason. Despite saving the file several times as I went through the process, it still did not, to my calculations come up with the right number. I closed and reopened, and only then did the proper California refund appear! So it got there, but not as easily as past years.

Had to "fudge" my return by entering amounts in form 1099-R Box 16 "State Distribution" for forms that were received with that box blank. For NY State return, TT stated State Tax withheld cannot be greater than Gross Distribution or State Distribution. As Gross Distribution is always greater than State Tax withheld, TT should compare State Tax Withheld to Gross Distribution for acceptance.

I was offered to use the online version for free this year (2025) and I encountered two issues. The first one was with entering the State Payer ID numbers for KY from two 1099s. They were 6 digits, but I had to go back and add 3 zeros to make them 9 digits before the TurboTax online version would pass the final review step. The second problem was when I attempted to run the verify step which uses the previous year's information, the online version couldn't find the 2024 return information. The Help database suggested I open the desktop version and use a feature option "Fix My Return" which I could not find, or 2nd, print the return and mail it. I elected to abort the online version and prepare our return using the Desktop version which I had previously purchased. Regardless, I'm still a committed fan of TurboTax.

The product is good. A few small things here and there but overall good. So the product is a 4. The really one star thing is that Turbo Tax wants you to buy more things from them . More services, everything on line. Upgrade this etc. Very shameful of them. If you have an understanding of taxes, you might consider a different less aggravating product.

Generally, it is great and I like the features of the program for filing for myself and my wife each year. This year I had a problem when I missed the check box on one of the last few screens dealing with having an identity protection pin. I did not catch this and subsequently had my return rejected twice until I went back through each of the final pages and found the error. They also change this pin each year, which I forgot about. I was able to fix the problem and my return was accepted. HOWEVER - a word of warning. I believe the two rejections may have caused my return to be delayed pending a letter from the identity validation section which required a phone call (with all the usual problems getting through). The online quick ID validation site would not work for some reason with my letter. Once connected a series of questions, which was fine - however then they advised it would be another 9 weeks (up to) to get our refund. What a headache from this mistake. (The IRS person I spoke to said she also made this error on her return!!) Perhaps TT can format the ID protection pin entry in such a way that it is towards the final page or make it harder to miss. Just a suggestion, thanks for the great product.

Turbo Tax Deluxe 2025 Arkansas State After selecting Filing Status 4 (Married filing separately on the same return), Program prompts for selecting "65 Special" tax credit for SPOUSE but does not prompt for selecting "65 Special" tax credit for PRIMARY and automatically applies the "65 Special" tax credit for the PRIMARY! This results in the $6,000 Retirement Exclusion NOT being applied for the PRIMARY!

Turbo Tax crashed and lost all my history. My previous year saved document did no populate history. I've been doing this since 2016. 2026/ taxes 2025 was very frustrating and different than what I'm use to. Said internet price was free, but wanted to charge me after filling out documents. I used desktop version like always.

Turbo Tax did not execute State Return correctly. Schedule 1 Addition/Subtractions properly stated in line 25 the oldest tax filer born between 1946 and 1952 should have NO entry on lines 26,27,or 28 Turbo tax entered a value on line 27 incorrectly and forced the filer to file with a hand entered return mailed in. Turbo Tax did NOT allow manual override.

The interface and filing to federal and state systems was very good, except as a new filer, defining what type of program I needed and the differences between the programs could have been easier. The TT system kept looping me back to the same page which didn't really answer the questions. Same with the chat bot.
