Sneaky fees

I found the handling of K1 forms clumsy as I had to review forms to get the guided step to appear. Finally, I'm very frustrated to get to the end of the filing and find substantial fees are quirked even though I bought the "free" filing version of the program.

Lower quality than usual

Double clicking an existing 2025 return failed to load screen. Had to instead quit TurboTax, then launch just the app. Once app loaded, open file of tax return. Bad. Have an Arm/M1 based mac. Was forced to install Rosetta to get TurboTax running. This is NOT good. Rosetta does not "uninstall" and I was keeping this mac "clean" for work reasons. You guys lazy.

Turbotax is really good, cost is high

Easy to use program, I prefer to keep my data on my computer and I'm glad I have that choice, the price is a bit on the high end at $95.00 other then that rock solid product as always for last 10years I've been using it...oh wow that is about $950.00 I should get a large discount for repeat user/buyer of this product.

Multiple Glitches

Software froze after entering all my tax information, ended up having to completely re-enter/start over. Later, it kept creating separate digital copies of my return while I was preparing to e-file. Made sure I had a couple paper copies saved prior to filing to make sure I had documentation in case issues arose. Also, ended up having to pay an underpayment fee for 2024 federal Turbotax filing. Evidently, despite entering all the information correctly Turbotax made an error in calculating my 2024 tax return, for which I had to pay a fee.

Needs work

Turbo Tax calculated penalties for both fed and state, which were clearly not appropriate. Had to contact customer service for help to override. Turbo Tax was not timely updated for a Wisconsin law change, resulting in rejection and need to refile once the error was fixed.

Almost everything you'd want!

Love most of the available import features, hate the double and triple entries needed for addresses and bank information. Ridiculous, especially if the same from a previous year. Needs improvement for double tax exempt interest and new overtime exclusion.

Fair - Still makes mistakes / duplicates forms

1) Created duplicate forms that I needed to delete one. 2) My 1099-R State Distribution was blank on document. Turbo Tax complains : "withholdings can not be greater than or equal to gross distribution or state distribution." I had to manually enter the box 1 gross distribution amount 3) Asks to re-enter data it could easily get from my last year's TurboTax info.

Live Chat Agents Saved Me From Headaches!

This was my first year using the live agent advice and the two ladies that helped me were AMAZING! I was getting frustrated but they knew exactly what the tool was asking and how I should enter my information. Thank you so much for this feature and the ability to call back several times!

Good, but has some gremlins

Generally easy, but there are some pages where information required is not explained well... sometimes no explanation at all. Usually solved with a bit of research, but occasionally I just have to "wing it". The only material problem I've had with the 2025 software is the payment page for buying state eFile. At the "Payment" page, the expiration date field only shows months 01 through 09. Considering my primary payment card expires in October (and most of my other cards are also in the last 3 months of the year) this is a major annoyance. This was the same for both "Business" and "Home & Business".

Same Critical Bug Two Years in a Row — Almost Made

I’ve used TurboTax Desktop for two years, and the same issue happened both times — which is honestly unacceptable. When transitioning from Federal to State, the software suddenly freezes. When you force quit and reopen, it looks like everything is gone. After spending hours working on taxes, this is extremely stressful and feels like you’ve lost all your data. Only after digging around do you realize there is an auto-saved file hidden somewhere, but TurboTax does not make this clear at all. The UI gives the impression that your return has disappeared, which creates unnecessary panic. What makes this worse is what happens next: Right when you’re in that panic state, the software pushes you toward purchasing the State add-on. Last year, we ended up paying about $50 for State because we thought something was missing — only to later realize our package already included it. The fact that this exact issue happened in the exact same place two years in a row raises serious concerns. At best, this is poor software design. At worst, it feels like a dark pattern that pressures users into unnecessary purchases during a moment of confusion. For a paid desktop product handling something as critical as taxes, this kind of experience is unacceptable. Fix your save/recovery flow, and stop putting users in a position where they feel like their data is lost.
