TurboTax 2025 Not As Good As 2024

I've used turbotax for years and was a little disappointed this year. The download from my financial institution was glitchy and it took 3 attempts to get it downloaded correctly. Also, when I ran error check, several errors were flagged but I had to search for the individual forms to make the corrections. I should be able to do that from the input pages if it is input that I need to make rather than have to find the correct form to make the correction.

T Tax 1 problem

When using the credit card for payment, I could not scroll past the 10th. Month expiration date on my credit card. Had to pick another one that had earlier date than 10th month. Idiotic, however, the turbo tax did a good job I suppose. Will find out soon.

TurboTax is Great, but not perfect-still recommend

Overall continue to love the TurboTax Home and Business product. I have two recommended areas of improvement: 1) provide a search option to search forms and the tool for specific keywords. This would have saved me over an hour of frustration and an ultimate call to your technical support to find where the new 2025 SSA tax deduction was being addressed. 2) there are still bugs that show up in the final review that the Interface did not ask me about during the input process that I had to struggle with, namely depreciation on a second vehicle that was used for my wife's business. It was in a crazy loop and I finally found a way out.

Home & Business

I've been using Home & Business for decades. The last couple years, I've run into issues that were new to the product that has caused some frustration. This year, I was e-filing my return (more than 1 state), and walked through the entire process including payment. When I went to transmit my return, I received a notice saying I needed to install an update before I could transmit. I had to perform the update and then repeat all the steps for filing over again. The second time, I went to transmit and received a notice that I had a field marked as estimated. Then I had to fix that. Finally, I was able to transmit. In the past, you would do a review, correct errors, then the software would ask you save. After that, it would tell you to do an update, save again. After the updates were installed, you were able to file the return with no rework. This was extremely frustrating. Other than that, I was happy with the product. All the forms I needed were available and the state forms were easy to complete.

TurboTax is poor.

The help system is horrible. I asked several simple questions and the answers were not helpful. Finding forms was a nightmare. I had to manually look as the search never found the form even when I put in the form name. The self-employed healtcare info was terrible. It had me enter my healtcare deductions in two places which resulted in incorrect deductions. I had to manually change the entries to correct it.

Turbotax is always a Good Choice

As usual, Turbotax is very thorough and good about guiding you through the tax filing process. This year is a little more quirky than in the past. For instance, whenever it checks for updates and installs any updates, it then offers to continue using Turbotax. It seems to restart the program, but instead it simply shuts down. Annoying, but then when restarted again, it does actually start.

Very inefficient and repetitive.

Although the product appears to do a good job, there is way too much repetition and lack of clarity. For example, when I want to just review my work, I cannot seem to see exactly what I have typed in. Product seems to skip steps. Further, if I want to make a simple change in a number or description I have to go through all the related questions over and over again. This is a very inefficient process.

POOR INTERFACE

I abhor the changes you have made to the system, that will "conclude" a direction without offering the detail to back it up. For example, I couldn't easily get to Att A since you concluded I shouldn't itemize. That's great, but I STILL want to see the detail. Else, I cannot determine if I made a data entry error that sent me in a direction that was not the way to go. Also, if I have a broker who reports div/interest, and I also have a capital gains tx with that broker, why do I have to "Add Investment"? Why not just go to that broker section, and add the capital gain? That took me several minutes to figure out. NOT LOGICAL.

Little Improvement and Lacks Simple Guidance

Little improvement from one year to another. Lacks plain English clarification for many topics. Fails to recall how some questions were answered in previous years, forcing user to research same information on an annual basis. Would be more helpful if it frequently provided guidance, such as: "Last year your responded". At other times the software highlights a yes or no response, which has no relationship as to my personal answer. In these cases it should not default to an answer which is potentially incorrect.
