I have used Turbo Tax Desktop for Mac for over 2 decades to file my returns. The ease of using the program has decreased over the past few years, and this year was by far the worst. Without the help of a particulary helpful Expert (Aretha), I would not have been able to correct the errors the program was generating in the forms. The program now makes it very difficult to go back and correct errors -- much less start a form from scratch - because is repopulates any form that linked to another form, regardless of whether that information is accurate. In one case, it allowed me to correct one entry, but not another - despite using the same steps for the same type of information in the same type of form. Trying to write this review is a perfect example - every time your AI decides to change the "suggested review topic" it hangs and removes letters I have just entered into this review. I am seriously considering whether to consider using Turbo Tax. I am NOT willing to do my taxes online.

When my CPA informed me that they couldn't get my return done by the deadline, I downloaded TurboTax and flowed the "guided tour" through every section. I learned more about personal and business deductions and categories than all my years with a CPA. The guiding questions made me trust that we wouldn't miss any possible deductions. I still had to do research items regarding Schedule K-1 items for my husband's business but in the end, I feel confident with my entries. Entering my business expenses was straight-forward. I appreciate the double-checking feature at the end. Saving and printing was easy. Thank you Turbo Tax!

1. I had completed my taxes and TurboTax said i needed to update for my state taxes. i updated ad my tax record was not saved. TurboTax did not say to save my file. when TurboTax came back up my return was gone. I had to re-enter all my data again. I when from a refund of $800+ to owing $379. I was very upset. TurboTax should save after each section automatically so this doesn't happen. 2. AMT section should instructions how to enter the amount. I was very confusing and i had to keep entering numbers until TurboTax would accept the entry. I don't know if it was correct of not. 3. Why do additional state returns cost so much? I'm not happy about that.

After buying the software, when I selected to have my state return filing fee paid from the return I was automatically charged for premium and had to google how to fix that. In order to avoid the paying for premium I had to pay the filing fee with a credit card. I think this is a deceitful practice as there was no notice regarding this and I had to research on my own.

I have used TurboTax for more than 25 years. I always get accurate results and have never been audited. This year I had a minor problem - I indicated in the program that I wanted it to maximize all authorized IRA contributions. My wife's SEP IRA contribution was calculated exactly right. The program said I might be eligible for an $8000. traditional IRA contribution. After having the calculations made it said I was not eligible for that contribution since I am retired and not employed. However in the worksheets for the return, it indicated that I HAD made an $8000 NON-deductible Traditional IRA contribution which I had NOT made. I did not discover this until AFTER I filed my return. Fortunately, it did not affect my return for this year but I believe it could have caused me problems in the future by making a non-deductible contribution to a Traditional IRA. Fortunately I have been able to reopen my tax file and find the places where the non-deductible IRA was recorded and change it from $8000 to zero. I re-saved my return after these corrections. So when my information from this year is imported next year this error should not go forward.

This year Turbo Tax was not able to transfer one of my tax documents from JP Morgan Chase brokerage account via desktop version. Customer only has a choice of restarting all over again with the online version to get it to read and transfer the downloaded pdf 1099B that Turbo Tax can't see and transfer from Chase. Other files are fine, just one account that was closed in 2025 that has tax documents that Turbo Tax couldn't access. I had to print and mail the form 8453 for form 8949 after manually entering the summary of sales/costs. I have use Turbo Tax for over 20 years, but it's time to try a new tax software! Very disappointed!

I have been a Turbo Tax user for more years than I can remember. I must say I was extremely annoyed, this year, that the software was not backward compatible to Windows 10. I am fortunate that I had a Windows 11 computer at another location, that I had to drag home just to do my taxes. Extremely short sighted on Intuit's part, in my opinion. I've already spoken with a dozen people who found other solutions to TT this year. You folks do your customer base a huge disservice with decisions like this. All because MS withdrew support last October? Wow.

Since I knew I didn't have enough expenses to itemize, I skipped that section. When it came to listing Long Term Care and medical insurance under Business Expenses, there was no way I could do it. I finally realized that I had to enter them under itemized deductions first. This just created extra work on my part.

By far using Turbo Tax has been the best method of preparing my tax returns. One year I decided to try a professional tax preparer and the method used was exactly the same as Turbo Tax. After that I never went back I have bee doing my own tax return for over 20 years.

While I have used the product faithfully over the past 30 years. Intuit assumed everyone would only opt for the cloud version, NOT ME. I wanted the downloadable version and the management team made it near impossible to find the downloadable version. I think their practice of moving everyone to a cloud based solution is for the birds.
