Not what it used to be.

This year was the worst for locking out, software freezing, etc. We've been using this software for years and by far, this is the most disappointing. Our internet is not to blame, We're considering an accountant or alternate software for next year. And when using the same computer with access to tax years prior, one still has to dig for information from previous year forms. This should be an automatic feature. Hope Turbo Tax get their bugs out. You've been in the business awhile now and should have these glitches fixed.

Features

Turbo Tax was fairly easy to use. Some of the features were difficult to access, including how to print. Would also like to have the ability to print individual screens, especially through the final stages of payment, refund, and successful filing notification.

A Step Backward

You have made it more difficult to enter the interest and dividends by not just having them appear, one after the other, for input. You have the list - use it as you did before. Do not mix interest and dividends in alpha order. That's not the way they are worked with. Why ask me for totals that are in the already input data to determine estimated payments when you are going to give me the options with percentages related to last year? I paid for the state filing, but the explanation only said the federal had been filed. I guess I wait and see if you filed the state. Overall, the product was a step down from last year.

Frustrations Growing - I Hope This Note Helps!

I have used TurboTax for 15 years or so, and have encountered a frustrating number of problems with TurboTax and the Intuit website during each of the last three years. I am offering these comments hoping they will be helpful in addressing these issues.

Flow and Complexity

I have been using Turbo Tax since the beginning (mid 1980s). This year the flow did not seem as smooth in places. For example, I was asked to input interest and dividends, then later I was asked to import brokerage information which also included interest and dividends. There seemed to be more complexity in questions and the number of questions; however, that may be due to a tax code that continues to get more complex with more and more exceptions and anomalie

TURBOTAX USED TO BE GOOD BUT NOW ITS JUST HORRIBLE

THE FACT THAT BUSINESS IS NOT SUPPORTED FOR MAC--A SHAME. THE FEATURES AND INTERFACES ARE WORSE THAN I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED WITH TURBOTAX. FOR YEARS I WAS A WINDOWS USER BUT THIS YEAR SWITCHED ALL TO MAC AND THE TURBOTAX ARE JUST HORRIBLE. THE DEFAULTS AND TRANSFER OF DATA IS NOT FUNCTIONALLY WELL. IN ADDITION IT DEFAULTS TO PAY FOR A STATE RETURN WHEN ITS NOT APPLICABLE FOR MOST FILINGS.

Great, but...

The only thing I didn't like was being shown my state ID number had changed, that I had to go back to where it was documented on my federal taxes, but not being taken there or telling me where that was. After unsuccessfully searching for 30 minutes, I had to call Inuit for help, and that took 30 minutes. The agent was wonderful and found the place, but it took me an extra hour to be resolved.

Forced to Buy Multiple Versions

That I have to buy Business AND Personal TurboTax versions is egregious. I have a simple Trust filing, and need to buy Business version for that. Yet the Business version doesn't do personal taxes, so have to buy a separate version for personal filing. That's over $200 for fairly simple filings, PLUS charged for California state e-filing. Makes me angry every year. Have written to my Congressman asking that the U.S. and States auto file taxes for people like many countries already do.

Foreign income reporting could be tricky

When reporting foreign incomes, you really need to know what you're doing as there are manual steps to add the reporting incomes to the appropriate schedules. They are not automatic. For example, interest income from Form 8938 would not go to Schedule B automatically and have to enter them manually.

Annoying/tedious

1. Multiple non-responsive "Needs Review" prompts requiring re-addition as new document--UNACCEPTABLE 2. Print option no longer shows list to choose items; must tediously examine them one by one with a magnifying glass and check off whether to print or not--VERY ANNOYING and not user friendly 3. Overrides of amounts are unnecessarily difficult. 4. Estimated tax options worksheet should allow for fill in amounts instead of requiring tedious override
