TurboTax was a bit frustrating this year.

When I started my taxes, I had paid for and wanted to use TurboTax desktop. I was somehow taken to TurboTax online instead of TurboTax Desktop. After completing inputting all my information, I wanted to print my return to review it. That is when I realized that I was not in Desktop but on TurboTax Online and that it was going to charge me $298 for TurboTax Online instead of the $130 I paid for TurboTax Desktop. So, I had to loose all my work and start over with DeskTop. This was frustrating. I realize that I should have noticed sooner, but I also feel like TurboTax is really pushing the user to try to get them to use the online version. I don't like that.

Not Easy to Get Running as in past years

Was needlessly asking for a password I did not understand. Would not transfer data from the previous year. Steered me to online tax filing when I had paid to download the application. Took 20-30 minutes to find the download page. Getting started was stressful, buggy, and not easy.

Usually happy

Usually have no issues and everything works great but this year I had to file in MD and had a tax credit that Turbo Tax would not process - very disappointing especially since no warning in the program only refusal to allow me to fill in that section of the form had to go to outside sources to verify that Turbo Tax would not work

Buggy and fragile!

This was the worst Turbo Tax experience I've ever had - 1) the desktop app CRASHED upon reaching the State Download page and I had to start over from scratch - it should have been auto-saving many many steps before that point - I lost an hour+ of work! 2) my deduction dropped down to almost zero upon reaching the Audit Defense page. It apparently cleared the filing status (single) checkbox on hitting that page, after a few cycles of fixing the error and it happening over and over, I had to manually skip over the Audit Defense page to avoid it corrupting my return. Intuit really dropped the ball this year, given that I'm doing my taxes on 12 April, stupid issues like this should have been caught in the last couple month, and I'm not sure I'll ever consider using Turbo Tax again.

A Necessary Evil, unfortunately.

Had completed 95% of my 2025 return, only the actual transfers to the retirement account were outstanding. TurboTax application installed an update and I lost all of my progress and had to start over from scratch. Then I was unable to edit the value for self-employed health insurance without going directly to the Forms backup worksheet. Why is not an option available in the step-by-step menus?

We love TurboTax!

I've been using TurboTax for over 25 years and found it to be a very accurate software compared to other brands used earlier. It is always been compatible with my Windows computers. Feature-wise, it covers all of our different tax scenarios and the interface is very easy to use. Reports are accurate and easy to read.

Turbo Tax and Win11

Turbo Tax is generally a great product. However, the fact that Turbo Tax could only run on Win11 this year was brutal for me. My Win10 computer had almost but not quite the hardware sufficient to support a Win11 upgrade and I had to buy a brand new computer at the last minute just to do my taxes. This really stressed me out. It is also frustrating because I now have two computers in front of me when I really only need one. Online TT is not an option for me for many practical reasons - too many to list here.

Same Critical Bug Two Years in a Row — Almost Made

I’ve used TurboTax Desktop for two years, and the same issue happened both times — which is honestly unacceptable. When transitioning from Federal to State, the software suddenly freezes. When you force quit and reopen, it looks like everything is gone. After spending hours working on taxes, this is extremely stressful and feels like you’ve lost all your data. Only after digging around do you realize there is an auto-saved file hidden somewhere, but TurboTax does not make this clear at all. The UI gives the impression that your return has disappeared, which creates unnecessary panic. What makes this worse is what happens next: Right when you’re in that panic state, the software pushes you toward purchasing the State add-on. Last year, we ended up paying about $50 for State because we thought something was missing — only to later realize our package already included it. The fact that this exact issue happened in the exact same place two years in a row raises serious concerns. At best, this is poor software design. At worst, it feels like a dark pattern that pressures users into unnecessary purchases during a moment of confusion. For a paid desktop product handling something as critical as taxes, this kind of experience is unacceptable. Fix your save/recovery flow, and stop putting users in a position where they feel like their data is lost.

Turbotax business is a waste of money

This year, it's clear the changes to the business edition were a huge waste of time and money. It failed to take me through the process of finding deductions for my business and I had to search and dig just to get to some of the most basic. Last time we'll be using the software.

TurboTax is okay except with glitz issues.

There is a glitz wherein one of my 1099-R would not allow me to e-file due to my checking the box on the 1099-R form that the type of account is an IRA. The program kept going back when I tried to submit e-file with a message that one item -that one described above- needs review. No way to override the glitz was allowed. After multiple attempts without e-file success I finally unchecked the 'IRA" box and checked the "other" box although that is not correct. I then was able to e-file. Your entry checks on review are terrible where they do not provide an override capability. Quite frustrating..
