Confusing and Often Misleading User Interface

Being a former tax pro, I found many of the entry screens to be confusing and/or misleading. The overall approach of the customer interface (of the desktop product, at least) is really dumbed down and often lacks adequate information/guidance to properly answer questions. If one is not a tax pro -- and in some cases even if you are -- some prompts lead to wrong answers/entries which then leads to problems completing the return, or worse, leads to filing an inaccurate return. And I find many of the pop-up help screens to be pretty useless, lacking adequate information to properly guide the preparer. If it were not for the 'Forms' view, I would have no confidence in the accuracy of my return.

Dependable TurboTax

Pretty use friendly. Recommend even more side by side comparison to previous years filings throughout the process as it helps to gauge if the info is lining up accurately or if there seems to be something dramatically different on a rolling basis as the return is being prepared. Over all I like the process of Turbo tax and will continue to use it ongoing!

Its great but there are some things more I would l

Its great but could you make it so we can print the current page in the program when it shows comparisons and other neat info? I do the taxes and take photos of these pages so that my wife can see them for their info is very helpful for planning later. It also helps answer her questions.

Excellent product doing tax accountant services

No problem with the program until the final checks on Schedule C. No concern on Schedule C=Direct Sales that used 1,370 miles for vehicle expenses. However for Schedule C=Internet Sales and Schedule C=Stock Market Investing, both of those Schedule C had zero miles for vehicle expenses. Error message requested data for Vehicle Depreciation Information (Vehicle basis, Prior depreciation, AMT prior depreciation). I ignored it because I never filed depreciation data on previous tax returns since I always put mileage for vehicle expenses and in this case zero. The program stopped me on electronic filing unless I provided the data so I set those depreciation fields to zero. Next year, if the vehicle expense is zero due to zero miles, will probably delete that section.

Turbo Tax is OK

I have used Turbo Tax for years, always the Disc Version which I find much better than on line, This year 2024 you did away with the Disk much to my disappointment the thing I missed most was the ability to upload my information from the prior year return. If that feature is still available on the On line version I certainly could not find it.

Improving the user experience

Entering data for 1116 is a mess and not intuitive. It would be nice if the account number is shown in in the imported 1099 forms along with the financial institution as I have multiple statements issued from the same financial institution. The user interface is neither intuitive nor user friendly. It would also be nice to get a detailed summary of all the income sections and tax sections in one page.

TurboTax has a lot of issues

My experience filing with TurboTax was very frustrating. I use Quickbooks to keep my business books, and I thought there would be a way to import my Quickbooks info into TurboTax. I tried many different ways and was on the phone with an agent for about an hour. She finally told me to download the desktop version. I did and tried importing my Quickbook files, but it didn't work. I was on the phone with another agent for about 30 minutes trying to fix a simple issue with my state tax. After disconnecting, she never called back and I ended up losing most of my progress and had to do the whole return over again.

Disappointed-Windows 11 requirement

Even though I have been a long time customer of TurboTax for over 15 years now, I regret that I will be using another tax software TaxAct next year because I would have to upgrade my computer (very expensive) to be able to use Windows 11 even though I have extended the security updates on my Window 10. - I do not want to use your On-line service. Since TaxAct and others will support Windows 10, I have no other choice but to switch because right now I cannot afford to purchase a new computer. It's been great, but I'm sorry we will have to part ways. Let me know if anything changes and you will allow Windows 10, with the extended Security updates to us TurboxTax next year.

Software glitches prevent e filing

No problems except that there is no way to bypass the things that the final check thinks are 'errors' in order to efile. Was very frustrated to have to print and mail my return instead of efiling for two nonsense 'errors'. One was demanding an explanation be entered for a business credit which still flagged as an error even after the description was filled in. The other was that the spouse contributions to the SIMPLE IRA exceeded the taxpayer. Well, the SIMPLE IRA belongs to the spouse and is funded by his employer - so how can that be an 'error'? Am I supposed to lie and tell the IRS that we didn't make those contributions? If there were simply a 'this information is correct, ignore this 'error'' option (which I feel like there was in previous years) that would settle the issue and still allow for e filng. As is your software glitch blocked my ability to efile. Thus the poor review. Also, when we tried to file back in April there was no way to enter a form 172 loss carryforward at that point. It appears that was corrected in one of the updates since but that required us to file an extension until you could fix your software to be able to handle our situation.

TurboTax 2024 taxes QSBS as ordinary income

My CPA found an error with Turbotax causing me to overpay Federal by $11,845 and CA by $3,765 because Line 11 Code O when from Qualified Small Business Stock sale should not be included in ordinary income. I had to override TurboTax K-1 entry in order to correct this expensive TurboTax mistake in my amended return.
