There is a bug in the Intuit turbotax Premier.

There is a big bug on filling the Form 1095-A of Intuit turbotax Premier software. I received the Form 1095-A from the Health Insurance Marketplace Statement. In months January to May, my family covered by my employer, therefore, the premiums in the columns of A, B and C in January to May are zero. I following the instruction to fill zero in these places. However, in the steps of the final review and transferring the return to IRs, the software asked to delete zero in the From 1095-A. This is not the same as in the original form. If you did not make the deletions, the software did not allow you transfer the file.

Works OK, mostly.

In general, everything worked fine. However, a few things made this more difficult than I thought it should be: 1. Adding Foreign taxes paid, being forced to add foreign income (from stocks) per county, is a pain. If you can't read it in from the 1099-B, can't you at least make the entry process easier, or at least more intuitive? 2. House sale of a rental property interview questions weren't clear. Hashed back and forth over terminology, assets/expenses/costs, and what numbers constituted what. Had to compare actual 4797 forms and worksheets to others, to get the numbers right. Not sure who to improve this, but, it was messy. 3. While on interview/step by step screen, I want to see the final form at the same time, not just the worksheet. Had to keep going by to forms, and reloading the relevant form, then back to step by step, to figure out which questions resulted in what answers. (for the House/rental numbers). Would love to be able to see the worksheet, final form and interview at the same time.

Turbo Tax needs a major revamp for improvement

Turbo tax often flags errors but provides no clue as to how they could be resolved. On-line help is not helpful. The software interface includes too many requests for information without explanation of what it is that is requested. If you go back to check an entry in a section you get forced to reenter all of the info that section.

TAX ENTRY CHANGES

TurboTax should still offer a disk, especially for Premier or other upgraded programs. Premier is a good program but sometimes I have difficulty making changes as I couldn't get back to the applicable program page and would have to open up the file and select worksheet pages from there.

Terrible for SALE of rental property!

I've used turbo tax for 20 years, mostly because of my residential rental property and TT has been extremely useful and helpful in those years. Last year I sold my rental property and TT has been pretty terrible in helping me figure my gain. It asks simplistic, poorly thought our questions to guide me that were mostly unclear if not completely misleading. The program needs a LOT more sophisticated interface and explanation before posing the questions (in some cases I doubted that English was the native language of the person who wrote many of the questions in the property sale section). I essentially had to learn the tax code on my own and figure out the gain on paper myself before the program made sense. Computation of the tax due on the gain (that I figured) was the only value added by TT. You all can do much better.

Turbotax is the best tax software

I have been using Turbotax for over 10 years and think it is the best tax software on the market. All of the self help features are easy to find the answers I need. The step-by-step method is very easy to follow and all explanations are very clear. Another great feature is the year to year comparisons of my tax returns.

Long Time User, Works well but have suggestions

I have been using Turbo Tax since the MS-DOS days and prefer it over using a tax professional. It handles importing all the standard forms like W-2, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, I099-R, etc. very efficiently online from banks and brokerages. It is less proficient with K-1 and other less common forms. I wish Intuit couid work more with the major brokerage companies to develop a standard for their tax reporting forms to make it easier to verify that information such as brokerage proceeds are imported correctly and that the various investment fees can be imported automatically. There is still much manual work to be done such as collecting IRA information and medical expenses. Also the state tax handling is much less advanced than the federal, and the instructions can be confusing.

Extremely helpful, but can be a challenge.

I had questions about the calculation of sales tax deduction: income in previous year was lower, but sales tax deduction was higher. This year income was almost twice previous year, but the sales tax deduction was lower. Doesn't make sense. Also, I found an error in my MS state return. It wouldn't efile because it identified it as an "amended return", which was false. It's the original return for 2024, not amended. It didn't make sense to pay $60 for those issues, but I would have liked the option to ask about them. I've used TurboTax for many years. I appreciate it even with the glitches. One improvement I'd like to see is to have access to a detail box for input on a single line such as in medical expenses. I go to the forms view for that reason - to access the detail box to create a total amount from the detail of many. It also serves as a reminder of what was included in the amount. That should be made available in the step-by-step view. Thank you.

Easy to Use

Have been a Turbo Tax user for over 20 years. Now retired it is easy to use. When I started using it and was still working with rental property it made doing taxes much easier. After 2 years of doing step by step I jumped in to just doing what I needed to do. Features I especially like include picking up prior year information which makes it easier to by pass step by step, downloading investment directly from the investment house which eliminates a lot of data entry and assures you have it correctly. Yes one does need to be comfortable using a computer but once you do it once you can stop going to an accountant.

TurboTax is OK.

I have used TurboTax for many years. The early versions were easy to look directly at the actual forms and switch between the forms vs. step-through processes. In the last few years, the software has made it difficult to look at the actual forms during the step-through processes. Also, it is not always possible to open new supporting information tables to fill in blanks with the software version I am using this year.
