Turbo Tax make taxes easier

I have been using Turbo Tax for several years and I am pretty happy with it. I like the features which allows one to scan W-2's and quickly import all information into the return. I also like the feature that allows me to import all my tax documents from my brokerage firms, simplifying the filing process. This year I purchase the live tax advice and I am pretty ha[ppy with it. Once I requested advice while preparing my return, I got a phone call in a fairly reasonable amount of time. Overall, pretty satisfied would Turbo Tax and would recommend it to others.

TurboTax- getting worse and worse every year

Every year Turbotax continues to get more and more frustrating. Endless popups to try to sell add ons. Poor directions. Forcing me through interviews I don't need. I am beginning to think I should switch to a different option or just pay a professional.

great tool, Needs improvement in handling rental

TurboTax is a great tool to handle taxes individually and applies a lot of hidden rules and credits. I drop a point though as 1) I needed two different version to handle my multi member partnership and individual taxes 2) I had a lot of manual work and did a lot of investigation to handle my home that is transitioned to rental mid year. Software although says rental feature, could not break the interest and expenses in both by giving it a date of separation. It also could not correctly calculate my primary home deduction rate (my loan is higher than 750K limit and can not claim all the primary interest and points.

Good but with Flaws Needing Correction

I've been a TurboTax user for approximately 20 years and I'd like to suggest two improvements. (1) I'm a single, senior taxpayer with most of my income through dividends and capital gains. I'm frustrated by TurboTax in that I can't actually see how my tax is calculated. The tax is not calculated from a standard table and I've never found a worksheet where you show the calculations. I'm left in the dark about knowing how my tax due was calculated and whether it's accurate. (2) I have never gotten through your foreign tax credit calculation without the final check showing an error. It appears that TurboTax doesn't auto-fill some of the lines in Form 1116, especially 1a and 3a - 3g, for which it already has the information. The definition of some of those lines is obscure, so if you're not going to auto-fill them, you need to provide clearer definitions for the user. I would be happy to speak with any of your people about this. /// Thank you

A little disappointed this year

I have used Turbo Tax for quite a few years. My experience has always been positive. This year however, I found the wrap up process to be annoying. I had to keep going back to get the return printed. I found the constant sales pitches for insurance, etc to be annoying as well. I do notice the emphasis on pushing the online version. I can tell you that if the future holds only an online version, I will not be using Turbo Tax. I do not want my tax return stored in the cloud or on some server that is out of my control.

Increasingly convinced Turbotax isn't worth it

I have never been so frustrated. I had a problem with my employer withholding Wisconsin taxes in error (I live in Illinois) and Turbotax was completely unable to offer any guidance and kept giving me errors with no guidance or suggestions. Then, after I thought I figured it out, paid for an additional state filing, passed all the error checks, and went to transmit - THEN it tells me there's a problem because field 16 is blank - again with no guidance at all. I am also continually frustrated by Turbotax asking for information from forms I downloaded or previous year tax returns when it should know that already. The only reason I haven't switched to another software is I don't want to deal with it not knowing my previous information. If Turboxtax makes me find it and enter it anyway, what's the point? Just once I would like to do my taxes without having to search up terms, rules, and explanations on other sources because Turbotax does not explain common situations. Premier should be capable of handling kids in college and basic investments/401K without my having to continually search for other references.

Suggestions to make TurboTax easier

(1) I think TurboTax should be easier to enter qualified foreign dividends by asking it for each mutual fund as mutual fund information is entered (vs. the way it currently works by asking for the overall amount during error checking), (2) currently TurboTax just includes the total carryover of IRA basis -- it would be helpful to also include the carryover by year generated to facilitate proofing; (3) it would be helpful to offer additional flexible options on the step-by-step screen for estimated taxes. In addition to rounding up by $10 or $100, it would be helpful to round up by an additional amount just in case an IRS adjustment would potentially cause an underpayment penalty. Currently, the user needs to go to the forms and override the amount, and then the amount in the instructions differs from the amount on the quarterly forms; (4) For K-1s that have different income types, rather than having to create a new K-1 set for each type, it would be much more straight forward to enter the info on just one K-1 group; (5) it would be helpful if TurboTax would track the tax basis (including the amount that each line in the K-1 affects basis, by year) of K-1-type investments like partnerships

Need to fix long standing annoyances

It works, but still too many annoying aspects like (1) when entering figures in Forms mode it often bounces out of current form when you hit enter (and sometimes when hit tab) to go to the next entry and (2) still too many places where you can't "drill down" to see where a total on a form comes from (you should always be able to go to a source of a total figure).

Disappointed in ItsDeductible removal

Was really disappointed in abrupt removal of the charitable donation estimation tool that I have relied on for years. In addition, I remain frustrated with the flow of walk-me-through for college costs and associated 529 withdrawals. Its very confusing. Final point is tax help--- i ended up using ChatGPT for research on specific topics. So much easier than the Intuit resources.

TurboTax (desktop at least) is going down hill

The 2025 desktop version is poorly done, made useless changes to the pages for data entry that made it harder to enter, such as Form 1099R's. On top of that, it lists all 1099R's only by the first given entry name, even though I have three seperate/different forms to report (from Fidelity Investments, given as "National Financial Services"), so when TurboTax does an error check and says it needs to be corrected, I don't know which of the three it is talking about!! Also, the import function didn't operate properly, as these 1099Rs should all have been imported when I imported my records from Fidelity, as well as other financial institutions, I had to add them all manually!
