From reciept of shipment, to start-up, the 9500 is an easy product to set up an use. I chose propane for fuel. If a time comes that I use the generator full time, I may switch to gasoline, but I felt there would be fewer problems with long term storage if I used propane. Yes, you suffer a little power loss with propane, but the engine runs cleaner. No problems with gasoline going bad. I am very pleased with this purchase.

I just got this so I can’t tell you how good or bad it is. I can tell you it started up with no problem. It came in good condition and after reading other reviews I feel we ordered the best one. If things change I will come back and update my review. Love the push button as well as the remote starter. It also helps that this has a gas level indicator.

I purchased the WGen9500DF to power my small house and shop during Davey Tree Power outages (PGE NorCal). Upon receiving the generator and setting it up, I ran it on propane for an hour. This thing is a beast! The remote works perfectly. Starting and stopping the generator from inside the house. (within line of site) I found that it was necessary to change the oil after that first hour test/break in, because there appeared to be enough metallic debris in the oil to warrant it. I found it easy to drain and refill the oil in the generator without making a mess. A little over a quart of oil is cheap insurance that our new Westinghouse generator will last a Long time. The only disappointment was that the air filter was not installed correctly at the factory. The outer portion of the two stage filter was Not fitted in the filter box correctly so the filter box cover cut into it. I called customer service for a replacement. Also "transfer switch ready" appears to mean that I have to use the Westinghouse ST switch, with extension cords to have the generator automatically start for back up power. I called tech support and have yet to hear back.

Heavy duty portable generator that will not only do my lights and heat, but also handle other things like the hot water heater, and the central air. Much quieter than my old 5k generator. Obviously having power during an outage is the most important thing here, but the added benefits of the remote start, and the push button start add to the features. It is a heavy duty generator, so it does carry some weight, but I was surprised at how well it moves around. That's pretty important when you are trying to set something up in the middle of the night with no lights at all. Both 30amp and 50 amp receptacles, so will work in a variety of locations. Am very satisfied with this product.

I have an older, smaller Cxxxxxxn Dual Fuel generator that served me well for several years now, but when the deep freeze struck, I realized it couldn't handle the loads I wanted it to plus it had a short runtime. I bought it with the intention to NEVER put gasoline in it. (Once you spend a few hours cleaning the jets on a tiny carb, you will understand.) I also hadn't learned to trust my Marine Stabil for real long term storage. I now consider gasoline to be the best for winter and propane is fine for summer as long as the lower power density is acceptable. So, back to the Arctic wave in Texas....We were able to keep the well pump, jet pump, sump pump, space heater, appliances minus the range, occasional water heater and the central fans going, but couldn't get the heat pump going. At 5 degrees outside, it wasn't unbearable inside as our wood burning stove saved the day, but that was a lot of work in addition to the relatively short run time on gas or propane. Adding gasoline at 3 in the morning isn't much fun and forget a 20 lb propane tank. Hard to beat gasoline in the winter. This led me to choose the Westinghouse over all the competitors. After a couple of days off the grid, I now value energy efficiency over most anything else. My smaller unit only lasted a bit over 7 hours with a slightly larger tank. I doubt I got more than 3 hours sleep per night due to worrying the unit would die during the night and allow all my plumbing to freeze. So, my thoughts on the product after receipt. It is very well packaged with lots of thought behind the engineering decisions and layout. Of course the one goof is where the wheels mount in relation to the 50 amp plug. That is a head scratcher. The automatic choke is spot on! The only thing better would be fuel injection. My other unit was very choke temperamental when warm plus you had to reach around the unit to work the choke while cycling the electric start. This is not an issue for the Westinghouse. I suggest you always turn off the gas at the shutoff under the tank and let the unit run out of fuel. This will empty the carb, but for total protection, always use Marine Stabil. Of course, always shut off the propane first and let the unit run dry. They warn you to turn off the propane when not running the unit. I found out while testing the remote that the unit will backfire if you stop it, leave the propane on, then start it up again. Whether that unburned fuel will dissipate after a longer wait, I can't say for sure. Just beware as you don't want to damage your muffler. I wanted to show the remote start to my wife, so I walked 100' up to the house and stood inside at the double pane patio door and said, "I doubt this will work this far away", but pressed the button. Since I didn't hear anything, I shrugged and walked to the door and opened it. It had started! I had to laugh as I never expected it to work from that distance. The stop button wouldn't work quite as well, but maybe because the little coin battery was still refreshing. Other observations....it is quieter than my smaller unit. Not by a lot, but it's definitely less obtrusive. I would like to see a slightly larger button for the Voltage/Hour gauge. It is very tiny. The propane hose is plenty long and very flexible. The tank side connector may be a teensy bit wimpy/cheap and you want to be sure it get oriented straight/perpendicular before screwing it on. It tried to get wonky on me once, when I wasn't focused on it properly. The air filters are just pieces of foam, which I happen to like. I don't like buying molded filters at premium cost when they get dirty. These foam filters should be easy to clean.

Don't until there is an emergency to get prepared. NOW is the time to prepare! This unit will help keep my family safe and comfortable during emergency power outages. It is powered by either gasoline or propane. Gasoline has about a 1 year shelf life. Propane is virtually unlimited in life. Flexibility is very important!

Purchased the tri-fuel after a hurricane left us without power for 1 week. Have not had to use in a power outage yet but it looks solidly built and able to handle our major appliances with AC unit to keep us going. Having a plumber install a gas line hook up this week.

Just bought my first portable generator. After researching several models, I chose the Westinghouse model for two reasons: 1) A variety of features that adequately fills my needs and 2) Value for the money paid. Although I haven't used it much yet, except for breaking it in a little, I'm confident this generator will provide top notch service for my needs in the event of an outage.
