Small compact and easy to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this detector for my laundry room / Boiler Room. In the past I had frozen pipes and needed to get it under control. This small easy-to-use compact device gave me the ability to put it there and let me know when temperatures dropped to put on a portable heater if necessary. I am very happy with the remote access and alert that come to my phone. I would strongly recommend this four areas that have internet and not easy access to allow you to control the temperature as well if there is any leaks. I am very happy with this product and will recommend it to my family.

Decent but one HUGE flaw.

I'm rating this product 4-stars under the assumption the devices will work if presented with proper conditions. That being said, there are flaws with this product from an end-user experience standpoint. There are two scenarios I've had to find workarounds for that should NOT be difficult to deal with. I purchased these detectors to alert to unwanted water. I really don't have any interest in temperature alarms. I placed the device next to the HVAC drip pan in my attic. With so many homes having HVAC equipment in attics, I'm shocked Kidde hasn't made an accommodation for the flaw I'm about to describe. This winter, we had temperatures drop to the single-digits. A somewhat rare occurrence in Georgia, but it happened. The freeze alarm went off as designed. I have no water lines in my attic. Nothing. Nada. I do NOT want a freeze alarm going off. It wakes people up, and creates unnecessary aggravation. SO... I opened the app to discover I can only "HUSH" the freeze alarm. 15 minutes later, the alarm sounds again... HUSH the alarm again, 15 minutes later, it alarms again. Over and over and over...... When temperatures drop AT NIGHT, the attic temps drop as well. And, there goes the freeze alarm. Over and over and over.... There is NO method to HUSH permanently. There is NO method to tell this thing to ignore temperature alarms. There is NO method to HUSH this thing even for 24 hours so I only have to HUSH it once a day. The ONLY way I was able to solve this nonsense was to climb into the attic and bring the device into the house so it would not alarm. So guess what? Now it is May and the Air Conditioning is running. Guess where my device is? Still inside the house because I haven't gotten around to climbing back up to the attic to put in in place again. You see the problem, Kidde? Think of your users when you are designing these things. This would be a simple firmware and software update to the device and app. A secondary - and very MINOR flaw I'm confident was driven by the finance folks in product development... the "GP" batteries are junk. I feel as if they are a risk of leaking battery goo in these devices. If you decide to buy these sensor devices, use quality batteries and save the "GP" junk batteries for the kids' toys.

Great option

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great option for peace of mind. I currently have it under the sink in my kitchen. It is awesome knowing that if there's a water leak or a freeze warning I will get notified and be able to do something about it. Clear instructions in the manual and easy operating.

Great to have

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has been a great addition to our house the first year after we bought the house the first winter our pipes froze we had no idea till it was too late having this this year around was awesome not only were we able to insulate the pipes but it let us know when they were beginning to freeze

Good water leak detector

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this water detector because I recently had a floor drain backup and water came into the house (near indoor pool). Ive tested it and it seems to do what I need it to, making a loud alarm when it detects water, also a mobile alert. So far I haven't had a real life use to write about, hopefully I don't at all. My one issue was with setting up the app. I had a lot of trouble adding the device to the app. Couldn't figure out how to do it. My 11 year old came to the rescue and he added the device to the app and now it works fine. He also made some comment about how I'm such a millennial which was the first time I thought of millennials as not tech savvy. Would highly recommend if you need a water leak detector in a boiler room or for some other use.

App is TERRIBLE!

Device is excellent at detecting minute moisture across the two metal contacts, sounding built in chirp alarm, and sending a notification to my iPhone. However, the app is a piece of crap. Can’t see the WiFi network nor update it. There’s no reset button inside battery compartment nor on outside. Removing batteries does not seem to reset it. Model # 60WLDR-W

good if you can get it to connect to the app....

i bought this for the app alarm and no matter what i did i could not get the device to connect to my wifi for hours. i continuously kept trying and it could not find the device even though it was right next to my phone and wifi. finally after it connected i tested it on a plate of water and worked instantly. but now i have a fear of the app not working. it does have a backup of working without the app still if the app fails which is good. it is a good product, would be 5 stars if the app connected easier. not sure if its just me or a common issue.

Hello. The unit only stays in pairing mode for 15 minutes after being powered up, after which the wireless settings have to be reset to put it back into pairing mode for another 15 minutes. Could that be what happened? If you have issues again, please call us at 1-877-542-5471 while onsite and with the alarm

Ease of mind

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My rental had a water problem and I got this to make sure there isn’t any leaks or if there are any leaks I would know ASAP. Pretty straight forward. download app, create profile, choose which product you purchased, scan QR code, put in battery, wait for it to sync. You NEED WI-FI for this to work. Pros: can use other products smoke detectors ect on one app & Battery comes with Cons: need WIFI to setup. Need tools to open back.

Update Status

I bought about a week ago for a ski house in upstate NY. I set this up before I left. I live about 3 hours away so when I got home the temp hadn't updated the status of the temperature at the ski house and their in lies the problem. It won't update the temperature for about 11-12 hours. All my WiFi connections are working as they should. That's too much time between updates. My pipes can freeze by then. It won't let you refresh to get an update when you open the app, you just have to wait until an update pops up and hope everything is alright. So there's no piece of mind. Ultimately I was going to install a WiFi thermostat but I'll have to do that ASAP because this device or maybe it's the app isn't trustworthy

Almost a Great Product

The freeze alerts are not ideal for the southern states, where many water heaters are installed in the attic. The software needs to have an option to separate / control alert types. We were woken unnecessarily at 3am when the latest cold front arrived.
