Its a Tank
I recently purchased this smoker and I can say that its an absolute tank. The assembly was easy but give yourself some time to put it together. After the initial burn, I have done a brisket and some ribs and couldn't be happier. The construction of the smoker and the double wall really kept the temperature consistent and the smoke tray really added the flavor I was looking for. I think I am really going to like this smoker
Excellent value, highly recommended.
Excellent pellet smoker, very solidly built with a lot of stainless in the interior. The cover is also nice and heavy and a good addition since the smoker lives outside. Definitely recommended. Unfortunately my unit came with a cracked LCD display which I found after finishing assembly and removing the sticker over the display. This didn't prevent me from using the smoker, doing a high temp initial burn and then a smoke of a couple whole chickens and some salmon which came out very well as you can set it by "feel" after reading the directions and using a separate thermometer to check the temp it's running at. I emailed for warranty support, including a pic of the cracked display and received a rapid email response and a new display/control module arrived in about 3 days. It took 5 minutes 35 seconds to change out and now all is working well including the two temp probes. Most recent smoking success was with four nice NY Strip steaks (from Sam's). Salt and pepper and then smoke at 200F until ~120F internal temp reported by the probes. Then sear in a cast iron skillet on the induction side burner. When served there were multiple "Oooh wow" exclamations heard.
Awesome price and even better smoker!
The delivery was fast and the package arrived in good condition. The smoker was easy to build as the instructions were very clear and easy to follow (took approx 1.hrs at a leisurely pace). Fired the smoker right up that same evening and did our first cook (steaks and corn ~ after the initial 1 hr cook-off at 500 degrees). At first it took a bit for the temp to start moving but once it did, the smoker held its temp great. As others noted, the temp stays within a 5 degree swing in either direction. There's plenty of cooking surface to get the job done and the overall construction feels heavy duty! The addition of the smoke box is a nice touch along with the additional/external cook top (both of which I have yet to try out). I've been searching for a high quality economically priced smoker for quite some time . . . initial thoughts are that this is the one! Would highly recommend to other smoking enthusiasts.
Initial thoughts - Impressed!
I've been researching pellet grills for the past few months now. I finally got to the point where i narrowed it down to two brands/models i liked. However, i couldn't justify spending $800-$1000+ on a pellet grill, so my plan was to wait a few more months and watch for spring sales. I started seeing 'chatter' regarding this new Member's Mark pellet grill with built-in smoke box and was genuinely impressed by the features i read online. On a whim, i decided to check it out in person (thankfully my local Sam's Club had some in-stock). After taking a look at the display model and comparing to other brands i've seen in person, this grill was a no brainer. Took me about 2 hours to put together. I followed the instructions and did the first cure/season last night. It was in the high 30's and windy, but had no trouble staying at temp +/- 6 degrees. After 45 minutes i turned it down to 200 degrees before initiating shut down mode, it took about an hour and a half for it to go down from 400 to 200 because its so well insulated. Pros: - Well built, heavy duty steel (dang near 200lbs). - The body is oval so Its taller vertically. More height. - Gaskets on both the main door and fire box door for better seal. - Vents in the back, angled downward. The wind doesn't affect as much as others brands with tall chimneys - Built in smoke box for wood chunks/charcoal - Double walled insulated, to keep the heat in. - 920sq inches!! - Includes cover and sausage hooks - Induction burner - All parts were clearly labeled and the instructions were well detailed - PRICE! Cons: - No wifi - 25 degree increments - Temp range is 200-500 (I wish it went a little lower than 200). This is a new grill made by Even Embers for Sam's under the Member's Mark brand. From what I've read, this is the first pellet grill this company has made for Sam's. All other pellet grills are made by other manufactures, so the reviews, quality, customer service can not be compared to others offered by Sam's. I haven't cooked anything yet, but will very very soon.
Thank you for the very thorough review. Please let us know if you have any other feedback(good or bad). We are always looking to improve. You can reach us at our email help@fairgameus.com
Best value of any pellet grill on the market, IMO.
I wanted to wait until I had used this cooker 6-7 times before reviewing. This will be a long review. First off, assembly: Putting this together was easy but it still takes at least 2 hours. All parts very well packaged. Seasoning the grill: Do not make the mistake of completely filling the smoker box with wood when seasoning. I was excited like a kid on Christmas so I put too much wood in and then running it at 400° + caused an issue with smoke coming up out of the pellet box instead of flowing into the cooking chamber. Has NEVER happened again since I cut back a little on the wood at startup. I found a thread on this cooker on Reddit that explained the issue, but it's never happened again after realizing it was user (my) error. Cooking review: This thing produces excellent ribs, chicken, beef, you name it. Temp is steady and everything works as advertised. I've been smoking meat for 20 years, usually wood/charcoal, but I got so tired of having to constantly babysit my offset or my PBC cooker, so this pellet grill was a welcome change. The wood box feature is a GAME CHANGER! Both my neighbor buddies have "other expensive brand" pellet grills, and although they cook well, they never have the flavor you get from a stick burner. Now I can achieve that with this 36" MM pellet grill. Pro tip: Besides adding small chunks of wood to the smoker box, add a few charcoal briquettes here and there, too. Helps keep the wood burning. Great smoke flavor, constant steady temps! My last cook was an 8# pork shoulder that I cooked overnight. Was my first overnight cook that didn't require getting up at 2 am and again at 5, to stoke the fire basket. Best pork shoulder I've ever made. Started at 11 pm, pulled at noon, rested in Cambro until 4:00, then pulled and ate. 10 out of 10! Smoke box tip: Make sure you have a small chunk of wood in the box when you START the cook, because the controller is designed to give a little extra boost of fire at the beginning. As you add wood later, make sure it's pushed all the way to the back of the box, so it's closest to the fire. Lastly, if you have a small propane torch, that is very helpful for getting wood chunks burning in the middle of the cook. * * * Induction burner note: Like someone else mentioned in their review, I too thought there was a problem with my burner. There was not. The burner is very sensitive to proper contact between surface of burner and the bottom of pan. Make sure your cooking vessel is properly centered on the burner and made of a conductive material. For instance, aluminum pans do not work on induction cooktops. Support: I contacted the company that produces this for Sam's, and someone emailed me back within 12 hours to answer my question! Admittedly, I only reached out kind of as a test, to see if my inquiry would be ignored, or answered by someone 3 continents away. Got a reply back from someone in Texas that told me any replacement parts needed would ship from a U.S. warehouse. Bonus! Summary: I am 100% satisfied with this purchase. The only aspect I can't review right now would be longevity. However, based on quality of build, I'm confident I'll get many years out of this. Chef recommends! Overall I give it 4.7 out of 5 stars. Temp range needs to start around 160 to 180° - for cold smoking, and temp controller should offer 25° increments across the entire range, not just at the lower temps. Other than that, this is a winner.
Great Grill - Horrible Delivery Experience
I am impressed with the quality of this grill. It is very heavy duty and well designed. The assembly instructions and the way the boxes are labeled is very well organized. Assembly is quite simple, however, the box is very heavy and the grill when assembled is also very heavy so potential buyers should plan accordingly for the weight of the box and finished product. The delivery of the grill is another story completely. The freight company that delivered my grill was terrible. They failed miserably on service and then lied to Sam's and to me with regard to their failed service. The driver apparently decided to end his day before completing my delivery so indicated that the address was incorrect, which was not the case. The driver then lied stating that he tried to reach me, but again that was not the case. There was no communication from the delivery company at all, so I waited 2 entire days for the delivery. The grill finally showed up 2 days past the original delivery date with a heavily damaged box. Fortunately the grill was packaged very well so there was no damage to the grill itself.
So far- great
I've had mine for a year. It works great in all seasons. Good in the rain, snow and cold. Hold it's temperature well. I haven't had any problems. I've never used any other smoker, so I can't compare it to other brands. I've smoked lots of ribs, a couple of pork butts and a couple of briskets. Just remember to clean out the ash from the pellet chamber regularly. (After every two or three cooks)
Former Trager Owner. This GRILL BEATS ALL!!!
We bought this grill just in time for Mothers Day since our beloved Traeger grill died. The sams club pellet grill has become a staple for every family gathering and party! Amd Bonus we use a Pizza stone on the grill and have pizza night about twice a month! We Love this Grill!
Great Grill / Smoker
I have had this grill for 4 months, smoked ribs, pork butts, pork belly, roasts and grilled steaks, chicken, dogs, etc. It works fantastic. The side burner is a plus for keeping the kitchen clean when sautéing or frying. I am floored by the amount of smoke flavor it produces. The only draw back I can see is that it is not WiFi enabled, however I purchased a great WiFi meat thermometer and have still spent less than half of the money I was planning to. Great construction and seems to be very well built
Great Customer Support From Fair Game
Had the pellet grill since May 2024 and had about 5 smokes on it until I had issues with the temperature dropping during a smoke. I saw the reviews regarding Fair Game, the company that actually built and services the unit, having terrible service. I initially thought so until I left a voicemail and received a call back from Trent who left me a voicemail. He provided me with the email which is help@fairgameus.com, then from there he provided me with a solution by wanting to send a new motor and pellet rod. I told him not to send the motor yet because he sent me a pdf of how to change out the motor to prepare for it. I took it apart just to check and sent him a video. We spoke and decided that I would try to clear out the rod since it wasn’t a motor issue. I told him I would let him know how it goes. The purpose of this review is to inform other customers that Fair Game, namely Trent, has been on top of my issue from the day I left my voicemail. He wants to try everything to get the smoker going. Trust me, my first reaction was to return it and get either a refund or a new one. This smoker is great and built like a tank! Give Fair Game a chance before you return it to the club especially if you had temperature issues like me. I don’t work for Sam’s or Fair Game but want to see companies do well. Now there are situations when you’re at wits end and by all means do what you have to do. When I spoke with Trent, I had confidence that he had my back.
