I've been a big fan of Arm & Hammer toothpaste ever since I met my wife 30 years ago; I loved the idea of baking soda as an ingredient. However I'm not happy with the Extreme Whitening formula - which sent me to hospital this past weekend. I woke up at the cottage at 4:30 am with a terrible feeling in my mouth. It was inflamed and I felt like I could not breathe right. I drove to the local rural hospital and I got seen right away. The doctor saw that my tongue, gums and inner cheeks were very irritated and he put it down as an allergic reaction. I thought it was something I ate the day before, but when I got home I remembered the last thing I did before I went to bed was use A&M Extreme Whitening toothpaste, which my wife kept at the cottage (I use A&M Complete Care at home). I'm certain that the Extreme toothpaste inflamed the inside of my mouth because it was everywhere toothpaste goes when you brush, including under my tongue which was very painful. The swelling went down after a day, but I am very weary of this product. There is a caution on the tube, but it needs to be emphasized! It is packaged like it is ordinary toothpaste you can use daily but that's not the case. NOTE: Use with the supervision of a dentist.

When I first started using it, after several months, I would notice my gums would feel irritated. I would stop using it for a few weeks then go back to it. Same thing would happen after a while. Last year I started using it again and noticed my lips starting peeling. I stopped using it and the peeling went away. I thought it odd. I'm a dental hygienist and love and recommend it all the time. I tried again a few months later and the peeling started again so I discontinued it. A couple of months ago, I was travelling and it was the only toothpaste in my overnight bag so I used it. Immediately, my tongue began to swell and I developed severe burn like reactions on my tongue and in the mandibular vestibules and all over my cheeks. I was in so much pain, couldn't eat, drink, talk. I had no way of getting an RX for a topical steroid until I got back home so I made a concoction of maalox, lidocaine gel, and benedryl liquid (magic mouthwash). So disappointed and wonder what it is about this combo of ingredients that could've caused such a horrible reaction. So much pain, Chat GPT told me not to get on the plane to fly home for fear that it was anaphylaxis.

I have used this toothpaste for many years and never had any issues, but when purchased it last month, I noticed that my tongue was swollen and cracked, my lips were peeling, and the sides of my mouth were cracked little did I think that it was the toothpaste. When another family member mentioned that they experiencing the same symptoms that is when I decided to look and see if others were reporting the same problem. As soon as I stopped using the toothpaste my issues went away.

I used this at night and work up and looked in the mirror and my lips were so swollen! The inside of my mouth is red and raw, my lips are chapped and painful fissures have formed on the underside of my tongue. I used another toothpaste for a week while traveling and all my symptoms went away. The day I got back and used it again all the painful symptoms returned. I have used Arm and Hammer Complete Care for years, but I'm so afraid to use other Arm and Hammer products now. I'm throwing this toothpaste away immediately.

I bought this toothpaste a few weeks ago, and have been experiencing sore gums, extremely chapped and peeling lips, and an irritated tongue. I've used A&H toothpaste products before, but not this specific one. I'm going to stop using it today and go back to my previous brand. I hope that the skin on my lips heals. Right now, they are two-toned - with the inner surface pink and swollen and the outer surface normal. I look like I had a lip filler done. Disappointed!

This toothpaste has been giving me mouth burns/a horrible rash on and off for 6 months. When I finally figured out what was causing the rash and burning on my mouth, I stopped using this product and the rash has not come back. This rash shows up days later and lingers for days after you stop using the toothpaste. It is very painful. Highly recommend NOT using this product. Awful awful awful.

I purchased this and there is a clear and extremely dangerous defect with the most recent batches of this product. Caused serious rash, extreme pain inside mouth and corners of mouth, and not going away for days even after ceasing use. Arm & Hammer is literally selling a chemically dangerous product that needs to be removed from shelves immediately.

I woke up in the middle of the night with painful burning and itching lips. By morning, my lip line had tiny blisters all around, and my lips were red and swollen. There's an obvious burn type marks around the outside of my lips. The tip of my tongue feels raw. Vaseline helps for about 20 min. before I have to reapply. Doctor prescribed steroid. Something is definitely not right here with this toothpaste!! Please do NOT continue selling this product!!! Arm and Hammer Advance White.

I'm so relieved to see so many other people had a negative experience with this toothpaste. I got the worst rash around my lips, sores at the corners of my mouth, and numbness inside my mouth (almost like I burned my tongue on a hot drink). I switched toothpastes and the rash went away. Last night I used the toothpaste again just to see what would happen and I woke up with a painful rash around my mouth again! This needs to be pulled from shelves because there's clearly something wrong with this product.

After using this toothpaste for only 2 days, I developed a horrible burning sensation in my mouth along my bottom gums and under my tongue. My gums were bright red, inflamed, and ulcers formed. It became so severe I had to go to the doctor for steroids and prescription mouthwash. This item needs to be reviewed- something is not right!!! This was an extremely painful and then financially taxing experience for me. Days have past and I am still not fully healed.
