Been buying dak hams for years my f refrigrated way of eating this product is to slice whole ham in about 1/4” thick slices put on cookie sheet in 400 degree oven let cook till browning and crispy take out then flip over let brown and get crispy onthat side serves 4 easily makes fantastic lettuce tomato ham beats bacon any day and ham sandwiches very minium grease or salt.If leftovers eat cold or hot because it stays crispy even cold i use in salads cut in caramel size pieces, same added to mac and cheese, or b b q sauce covered with baked beans, potato or cole slaw salads!also have made ham salad by putting ham thru my blender with onion, celery, red sweet bell pepper, sweet jerkins, mayo or miracle whip

You Should Have A Row Of These In Your Pantry!

It doesn't get handier than a canned ham. Open, heat, serve. There's never any waste. I like to glaze the ham with a sugar (Splenda) and mustard mixture with some ground cloves (not too many) added in. This isn't a huge, fancy ham, but it's delicious anyway, and the convenience of having it ready at a moment's notice is fantastic. It's as cheap as fast food at this price.

Great Product

It is mostly ham and not mostly fat as some have said. You can slice it and fry or microwave it and the fat melts away. It says on the website and on the can that it has 7 grams of fat in 2 oz. They don't process it as much as some you can buy in the deli or packaged/refrigerated but that's why it costs $1 - $2 a pound LESS and why it looks different. It is true it does NOT look as pictured on the can but it's a decent buy and great if you can't make it to the store or for camping.

The cats loved it!

I bought this ham to make Cuban jam croquetas. I always buy real jam but I wanted to give this a try figuring that this is what the Cuban bakeries all over Miami use to make their jam croquetas. For starters, this is machine separated jam. So you are getting left over scraps that are chemically cured, bound together with lard (fat), and machine formed to fit into a can. Is it food, yes; is it edible, yes; is it desirable...no! I gave the cats a chunk to see if they liked it and they loved it. So, it makes for perfectly cheap cat food. They devoured this stuff. I did use it to make the Cuban jam croquetas. They came out OK, frying them was fine since the binders in the ham prevented them from exploding. However, they had a slight taste of pig lard. Which, of course, is the fat used to bind these mechanically separated pieces of ham. I am not a fan of lard. Other than that, the croquetas were fine. I'll keep buying this ham but only to feed it to the cats.

It's GREEN! I wouldn't feed it to my cat, or dog!

I was glad to see another reviewer with code numbers, those numbers ended with the year "2017", mine, of course is different. 23:06 260 and EXPR: 0423-2018. It would seem that a year later DAK is still having problems. It is partly dry and almost green with brown spots, and it is stinking up the house! Customer service very poor. I could leave my name and number, they didn't seem too worried, "Wait until April gets back from vacation." The can didn't look damaged. 1-800-526-4909 plumroseusa.com It's been hours and no call back. Too bad. I wish I had a photo before I stuck it in the freezer to wait for trash day. Ugly stuff, did I mention it stinks?

Situatuinal

I dice it up, fry it off and use it in place of bacon fir flavoring beans, greens and such. It works well for this. I tried it for sandwiches once and wasn't impressed. I definitely don't consider it palatable unless you slice it and cook it off first.

Excellent canned ham.

Is this spiral cut honeybaked ham? Er, no. However, what this IS, is an excellent product that is awesome value for the money. You get a full pound of product in a can. It is perfect for camping, cabins, boats, stashing in the cupboard for an emergency.. and once opened, it is easy to cut and tastes great. I have used it with eggs and beans for breakfast, in a sandwich for a snack, or just eaten it right out of the can. Once opened I place the can in a ziploc bag in the fridge so the ham remains fresh and firm, ready for use.

Not a great emergency food item.

Very salty. It was tasty and you could absolutely tell it was made from real ham it just had an unacceptable sodium content. You could use this if you were going to make beans or something that would absorb a lot of the sodium. In a hurricane or a survival situation this product would make you utilize a great portion of your available water. That being said the container was durable and very packable.

EXCELLENT for long term food storage and camping!

If you are looking for a honey glazed ham like grandma used to make at Christmas time then just go buy a ham from the freezer section of the store! If you are looking for a quality canned ham that has a very long shelf life, then go no further. EXCELLENT to have a lot of this along side all of your other canned food for emergencies and for camping. EXCELLENT for every day use also! I'm a full time fire fighter and STRONGLY suggest prepairing for emergencies and having a well stocked food supply!!!!!!!

mushy over processed and beyond disgusting

The smell is almost like canned dog food but worse and has a slimy gel covering it, My husband tried to eat it raw on a sandwich, He made it through a few bites then said it s disgusting! I couldn't get past the smell to eat it cold! I made baked beans, a stir fry and even tried to boil with cabbage
