This thing is junk.
I ordered this mower online, for home delivery. It was supposed to be delivered in 3 days, but it took over a week. After putting it together, I mowed for about 5 minutes and I shut it down for a couple of minutes to talk to a neighbor, when I tried to re start it, it wouldn't start, after cooling completely down it started again and I finished mowing, I shut the mower off and tried re start it and it wouldn't start, I had to wait for it to cool completely down again before it would start. Needless to say I returned it, Sam's took it back and said that there have been alot of them returned.

good mower
tires can slip a little bit, the back bag plug is poorly designed - it gets full of clippings every time I mulch. The start bar & the drive bar should have rubber on them as well, as they are small and dig into the wedge between my thumb & forefinger ( blisters w/no gloves). The stand up feature is nice for storage and for cleaning. pretty consistent cut. After using it 2 times, I am ok with it. Just hope it lasts for a couple years. i did buy it on sale, so i don't think I would have bought it at the regular price.

Not for me
Very jerky and clumsy to operate. When I would try to rotate on the back wheels for a change in direction it would rear up and accelerate. Very little propulsion going up moderate hills. Holding 3 bars in hand at once is not practical for me. My back hurt the day after I used for an hour, returned it.
Thank you for purchasing our 21" Self-Propelled Mower. I am sorry you were not satisfied with the performance of the mower. I hope you were able to find a mower that met your needs.

Bought Two
I bought myself one last summer, and it cut my mowing time in half. I bought a second one this year for my son. It is easy to assemble, the power of the self propelled feature, the adjustable wheel height and 12 inch wheels make hills easy to mow. I saw many reviews about the speed of the self propelled being to fast, it does not really adjust, however, adjusting the height of the wheel and depending on the length of the grass, the mower speed did vary a bit. The propelling feature operates separately from the engine it is easy to disengage the power to the drive quickly. Bonus for ordering online from Sam's, with my premium membership, free delivery to a small town not to close to a club.

Great lawn mower!!
I have owned several lawnmowers over the years, and they are always difficult to start, especially at the beginning of the season after sitting a long time. This one arrived, I put the handle on, added oil and gas, and with one pull, it cranked! It cranks on the first pull every time. I love it!.

Not happy.
Purchased this mower from Sam's Club online. It was shipped to our home and upon arrival we attepted to assemble it. A quick check of the box contents against the parts list revealed that the lower handle was not present. Three phone calls and three weeks later the missing part finally arrived and the assembly was completed at last. Alas, the handle does not lock into place for mowing, it still moves up and down. Perhaps another missing part we don't know about?
Please reach out to our customer service team so we can address your concerns with the handle. In the Quick Start guide the assemble instructions includes a part diagram that should assist locating missing parts.Thank you for bringing this to our attention.Yard Force Customer Service and Technical SupportPhone: (866) 902-9690 (Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm ET)-Yard Force

It's gonna take some time to get used to this..
Not the easiest mower to use. First, You need XL hands to be able to hold on to the bar that keeps the engine going AND then grab way down to grab the bar that starts the wheels. This is the most cumbersome way of operating a mower I have ever owned. The cord clip is a piece of rubber that bends onto the handle of the mower. The first time I mowed I had to restart the engine because of course my hand slipped off of the engine bar as I was trying to reach the bar for the wheels to start and when I pulled the cord to start the engine the cord clip flew off the bar and went into the woods I was near. It really needs to be bolted into the bar. Then there is the speed the wheels turn. I was very surprised to see other reviews saying how fast the wheels turn. I have the opposite opinion. I have never had a mower that has moved soooo slow. It's taking me 50% longer to mow my yard because of how slow my mower moves compared to my previous mower (which I also bought at Sams Club, but a different brand). I see the companies reply saying they set the speed to some industry standard but seriously I am frustrated at how slow I now have to walk. The other issue (convenience AND safety) is when you lift the front wheels off of the ground the drive speed of the back wheels almost doubles. I was shocked this happened during my first use and almost drove the mower right into a yard light because I was not ready for the mower to double it's speed. Not sure what that is all about... On the positive side the mower starts every time on the first pull. It cuts well although when I finished I did see some small row spots of uncut grass throughout the yard so I guess you have to leave more room on the uncut side vs my previous mower.
HI Michael, thanks for taking time to post your comments. We're sorry we did not earn a 5-star rating from you. The control bars for the engine start/stop and the self-propelled drive are the same style as nearly all self-propelled mowers on the market. The forward bar for the engine start/stop should be pulled back when starting the mower and can be held comfortably with both hands. Hold the main handle bar with one hand while pulling back the orange start/stop control lever. When you need to activate the self-propelled drive you simply keep the start/stop lever engaged with one hand and pull up on the self-propelled drive lever with the other. There is not much tension on either lever so it is not necessary to use both hands when engaging either lever. The speed of the self-propelled drive is set to OPEI (Outdoor Power Equipment Institute) standards and attempts to be the pace for the average US consumer. Of course every person has a different stride and pace, it is not possible to have one speed be 100% for every consumer. If the speed of your mower "doubles" when the front wheels are lifted off the ground your mower needs service immediately. There is no possible way for this to happen, there is no friction from the front wheels or the blade to cause this problem. Doubling of speed is impossible. If so, please stop using your mower and contact the Yard Force Customer Care Center at 866-902-9690 immediately so that we can help you get this corrected. Thank you

Great minus a few minor details
It came pretty-much all set up as the handle is awesome, allowing for quick storage, just as advertised. It started right up and continues to, cuts great and moves along at a suitable speed. I wish the propeller handle was rounded at the sides, for faster slowing down and speeding up (at the end of "lanes", etc). I also wish the lower part of the handle loosened like the top). Overall, would recommend.

Great mower at a great price!
Absolutely perfect, especially for the money. A lot of people say that it's too fast when engaging the drive motor, but I think I walk faster than it wants me to. 100% would recommend. A side note... the instructions are not clear about how much oil to add. It comes with a bottle in the box. Put the whole bottle in.
Thank you for purchasing the Yard Force 21" Self-Propelled Mower. I am happy that you are enjoying your mower. We appreciate the recommendation.

Drive/Kill Controls Backward. Drive speed to Fast
The choke bar & drive bars a backwards from the way they should. The drive bar is so far away from the handle you can barely get your thumb on it to push it forward. Combine that with a drive that when it engages pops a wheelie ripping your thumb off the drive bar. Despite what the manufacturer claims they are using as a standard for the speed it is way faster then the Average person would walk causing you to try & Pump the drive to keep up. They should have field tested it wit average humans instead of using some government or institutional “standard”. All of my other numerous self propelled mowers you squeezed the choke/kill bar forward to the handle & “pulled the drive back(2-3”) to the handle(not 4-5”). The jerky wheel spinning drive could easily cause loss of control. Hopefully in a couple of months the belts will stretch & have less grab or I may try replacing them with looser belts. I definitely see why Sam’s Club or mfg were knocking $100 OFF the price…to get rid of them.
