This fit my needs exactly. My attorney drew up a family trust and said I should get a fire security box to keep it in case the house burned down. The document would still be safe and available for my successor trustee. This box does the job at a reasonable price.

The quality of this one is not as good as the older ones by comparison. This is my second safe of same brand just smaller, that's why I had to get a new bigger one! The keys is so flimsy and inadequate for the item that was supposed to be strong and durable.

I just hope, if ever needed, that it actually works. I read the reviews before purchasing, and I agree. It is NOT a safe. The locking mechanism is very flimsy. And the unit is heavy and awkward. Definitely needs a handle or two. But I bought it to keep valuable papers safe in the event of a house fire. So I trust I am secure in that aspect.

This box is perfect for protecting some cash and important documents from fire. I haven't tested it, but am more confident now that my documents are in this box rather than a file drawer. Of course, this box is not theft proof as it can be carried out the door.

Only reason I did not give a 5 star rating is that when I received my safe, the keys to it were locked INSIDE the safe! DUH! Thankfully when I called customer service, Laurie was a real sweetheart, figured out what key cut I needed and had a set of keys to me the next day. That is customer service! As far as the safe goes, it appears to be everything it is supposed to be. Fortunately, I have not had to try it out yet.

Didn't like the new lock. my old one I had a better key and there was a Pull up latch to totally unlock it. The old one saved my valuable papers. I had 2 old Sentry safes and they saved the most important things from destruction . HOPE THE NEW ONE NEVER HAS TO FIND OUT

I like knowing my important documents will be safe in the event of a fire. Fires are devastating enough let alone having to worry about your stuff that needs protected. This is my second one, decided to store even more important things. Not cheap, but do you really want something cheap and take the chance?

My son is in the military and so moves often. He needed a good safe place to keep his files that was fireproof and lockable and safe. This was a perfect gift for him. He can keep his car titles, social security card, passport, birth certificate- everything- all in one place and protected. Perfect size. Great purchase!

You have to raise the lid partially so the latch for the lock will allow you to turn the key to lock the box. Not mentioned in the instructions. Also, as some reviews point out, and shown in instructions, in the event the box is in a fire, the lid will melt shut and must be pried open. Sentry does state they will replace the box at no charge. My concern is if the lid melts shut, what is the impact to the latch and will it unlock so you can pry the lid open.
