I have 6 other sentry safes (4 big for the grandchildren, and 2 small for our important documents) but one day recently, during a tornado warning, I moved one of the bigger safes into the bathroom and put in a few items I most wanted to protect. A few hours later, I put it back in my office but, few days later, during another weather warning, I had to do it again. It occurred to me we needed one more safe, exclusively to protect certain items during Nasty-Weather season; one that could "live" in the bathroom. So I ordered a 7th Sentry Safe, and there in the bathroom it stays, already holding a few legal documents, a couple of water bottles, some charging cords, a good flashlight, etc., and the safe is nicely covered with a small lace throw and a jar of decorative soaps. Visitors haven't a clue.

Good quality build, very high value. Lock latch was bent a bit upon arrival, but I was able to easily bend it back into position with my hands for smooth closure. This unit provides 1/2 hr of fire protection--it doesn't, and nor is it meant to, secure valuables. If you know what you're buying and why, you can't beat the value!

Really think the safe is very well made and solid however the reason for my 4 stars and i admit it is something i didnt even think of when purchasing. For how heavy this is, it needs molded handles built onto the sides...it is very difficult to move if ever needed or upon initial set up because theres nowhere to grab unless you put both hands underneath and hug the safe

The safe works perfectly but I didn't realize how hard it would be to move without any handles. The outside surface is actually slippery which makes moving it even more difficult. I don' t know if I really like it now that I know it is tough to move. As for recommending this safe to others I can only say "maybe." I will say yes to the question below but I say it with hesitation. Any chance you sell handles for this unit?

For the price, it was just what I was looking for. I have a smaller one with a handle that I have had for years and it works but I needed something bigger. I'm actually glad it doesn't have handles because it makes it harder for someone to take it. My only complaint is the lock mechanism. Regardless of which key I use, I have to wiggle and jiggle the key to get it into the lock. Once the key is inserted the lock mechanism is kind of loose.

Pros: Thick walls, heavy, perfect internal dimensions for letter sized files, hanging file folder ridges, easy to register on website, key stays in while it's unlocked Cons: No handles, lid hinge allows slight movement making me have to press lid to left or right at front to get key to turn.

It's great, fits my needs, and heavy duty. But the lock is wonky and it doesn't unlock or lock on the first try. It always takes a couple tries and some rattling before I can unlock or lock it again. Sometimes I have to wiggle the lid and the key while it's in the lock before it works. My other sentry safe wasn't like this.

I hope we never have a fire, so we don't find out how well it works! It holds my files well and the lock works fine. My only complaint is that is it rather awkward to move. There are no handles on the sides or top., so if it is on the floor it is rather difficult to pick up. It is kind of slick and it is heavy.

I also bought a small one and the sm2 key opens it also. I could not hardly believe it! This is the worst thing I can think of? Unbelievable! That a Company that makes Safes. Would be like this? Now I have to Waste my precious time to mess with it and get it right! This is Terrible!!

I have had this safe for more than 30 years! I am thankful that I have never had to test its fire rating, but it has stored our most important original documents over all of that time. The key works flawlessly, never sticking! The ONLY thing I wish is that it was ever so slightly wider so I could fit 3-ring notebooks inside without going kitty corner. Of course, that's no fault of the design as that was never intended. Just the way I tend to file certain documents. Still loving it after all these years!
