The key locking mechanism of the safe was defective right out of the box. SentrySafe advised me to return it for a replacement. It was assembled in Mexico. I’m not certain how much the company saves by doing business outside of the United States if they’re replacing brand new safes due to shoddy workmanship. Hopefully my replacement will be satisfactory.

Quality made all around. Nothing looks or feels cheap on this product. We are totally confident that it will get the job done, we just hope we never have to find out the hard way. I have handled other brands and was not happy, this one is just right. I ordered on line through Wal-mart and came in hassle free quick. I never handled it before ordering it. My judgement to order it was based on the fact that I did extensive research and reading other peoples feed backs, testing, etc. So I was confident to order it. I am glad I did instead of saying, oh well this is what is in stock so I must buy this one! We are totally happy and highly recommend the experience.

Very study, VERY heavy. Holds standard (letter size) file folders quite well. Would give it the fifth star if it had a handle or other place to hook the keys to... my need for this item is not about locking it up, rather it's about a bit of protection for special documents in case of fire... it would be much easier if there was a place to attach the keys that didn't have them standing out of the lock. A handle would also make it much easier to move the thing, as it's quite heavy to pick up with absolutely no handles or hand-holds.

I have owed a similar safe box for many years also made by Sentry. This model appeared to be sturdy and of high quality but the trouble began Christmas day. Apparently, we misplaced the keys while opening the present. (They where found the next day across the room). Sentry's web-site lets you order new keys for $15 but it was my opinion, the safe never had any keys in it. I wrote that to the company and they were kind enough to respond the next day and promised to send me a new set of keys for free. Which they did. In the mean time, having found the original keys, we were unpleasantly surprised to find the keys did not work in the lock. For some reason, they would only insert about a third of the way and yet they still turned the locking mechanism. I returned the safe to Walmart the next day. I have since ordered and new safe model H2300 and received it yesterday . Although it is not the same size as the original, we are VERY happy with it. 5 stars for the new one.

Even in this digital age there are important documents like auto titles, wills, birth certificates, etc. that you need to keep safe. Our document file is big enough for all of these, yet not too large to keep in an unobtrusive place. I appreciate having this fireproof /waterproof box, as I've had a couple of friends lose their papers to house fire or water damage. This box may help us avoid that hassle.

This is exactly what I wanted for locking up important papers like birth certificates, and things like that. You need to purchase hanging files seperately but they fit perfectly(regular paper size not legal size). The only thing that would have made this even better would be if they included some kind of bolt you could use to secure it to the floor so no one could walk off with it.

This safe has taken the place of multiple other containers. I really like how much it holds and the built in tray for the hanging folders is great to have too. I wish it had a Pocket built into the front or back of the inside, or even the top to put small things in like spare car keys, just so they aren't in the bottom or causing bulges in the hanging folders. I would also like to have some kind of edge on it to lift with because I don't always get into it where I store it.

I Bought this safe to replace a previous 1170 I like the weight, storage and fire rating. One drawback are the hinges. I had to replace my other 1170 due to the hinges wearing out and the white construction material coming out. Once the hinges were wore out it was no longer secure and you could pry the lid off easy. Otherwise I like it.

It is bigger than you expect and it is fairly heavy. However, I think these are good things when it come to a fireproof safe for my important paperwork. Difficult to pick up and run with for potential thieves and sturdy enough to withstand most house fires.

This is our 4th SentrySafe. The 1st three are still in service but we haven't yet started stocking this newer one. Don't think that you don't need one, and these 1/2-hour units should do well in a typical fire. IMHO, fires can be worse but not typically. We did have a 6-hour fire in a storage facility and our 1-hour file cabinet was the only surviving item in the 80-unit facility. Cabinet contents okay but smoky.
