Sam’s very good

Bought and prepared for family Christmas dinner using garlic and thyme rub. It was delicious! So tender Everyone enjoyed it and wanted recipe.

I have purchase tenderloin before, but this tenderloin was awful. This tenderloin was very hard to cut up and I threw away a lot due to fat and inedible meat due to gristle.

Normally my experience with Sams premium meat purchases have exceeded my expectations. This time it seems off, a large vein of gristle and an abundance of fat for a beef tenderloin. Rather disapointing.

Unfortunately for such an expesive cut of the meat the quality was very low. Flavorless despite dry bine and garlic butter. The texture was mushy and almost slightly rotten but eaten right after purchase and within date.

I’ve purchased trimmed prime beef tenderloin numerous times over the years at Sam’s and it’s always been great. This year they only had a couple of pieces of way too large for our small holiday dinner party but they did have some smaller untrimmed angus tenderloin. The meat manager asked me if that would work and I said yes and I’d be able to trim and tie it at home. Although he was quite busy he said he’d trim and tie it for me if I could give he a few minutes. Sure enough 5 minutes later he presented me with a beautifully trimmed and tied tenderloin no additional charge. Marinated and roasted to medium rare our friends are still talking about it being the most tender and delicious beef they’ve ever had.

We ordered online and picked up at the store. I was a little nervous about not picking the meat out myself, but it was perfect! We used our Traeger grill to cook it and it was wonderfully delicious. Everyone, including those who don’t usually eat beef, loved it!

Amateurishly butchered. Lots of bad cuts and hacks that made trimming more difficult than it needed to be. about a pound of fat and silver skin and another pound of “stew meat” leaving just over two pounds of tenderloin. Still works out to be less per pound than a trimmed tenderloin if you include the stew meat and don’t count your work time in the calculation. TLDR: If you don’t know how to peel and trim a tenderloin, walk past this. If you DO know how to peel and trim a tenderloin, but aren’t adept at working with poorly-butchered cuts of meat, you may STILL want to walk past this. Otherwise: this meat’s for you!

The trimmed tenderloin has become our go-to at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's incredibly easy to prepare and cook (about 3 hours on the smoker @ 225), and there are plenty of online recipes and videos for preparing it. It's not cheap, but it's fantastic for a special occasion.

Always purchase Whole Tenderloin for Christmas at Sam's Club...this is the first year I was embarrassed when served to my company and it was so tough in spots...a few good sections...the price was higher than usual and the quality of the meat was poor...I would like a representative to contact me to discuss.
