The plastic will last, but all metal components inside the bins (hinges and latch) are low quality stamped metal from southeast asia. Its shocking how fast they rust. Not wasting anymore money on replacement parts. Time to move in a different direction.

Cons: We bought this composter from Costco a few years ago. It was hard to assemble and we realized that it was hard to rotate. Its locking mechanism was kind of finicky from day 1. And the drums leaked constantly due to water logging in our PNW weather. The Aereator bar inside got clogged pretty quickly. And the locking mechanism stopped working due to immense rusting. The lids do not want to close completely. Two years ago, I cleaned the parts by pressure washing and neemoiled DW40ed the latch etc. I was able to get one side to work somewhat. The other side is permanently stuck. This year, the latches do not work, so the drums can not be spin. However I am still dumping stuff in there out of habit and trying to hand turn it! It is a pain in the neck. I have not gotten another product because of the fact I have yet to find something which may be a better design The good part is: It has a stand, so your compost is not sitting on the ground and rodents infestation associated with composting is non-existent. The idea is really good that you can rotate the drums and compost one side while the other side is an active collection side. I wish it had not rusted so quickly and become inoperable. I wish there was a technician out there who could come out and fix the problems with this composter.

Over the past few years I noticed that the locking handles were getting difficult to turn. Granted, my composter is out of the 5 year warranty period, but all of the hardware inside the composter barrels has rusted away to the point where it's falling apart. That latch mechanism has failed on one and is about ready to go on the other. All of the nuts, bolts, brackets and axel show heavy rusting. Clearly, these parts should be stainless steel, not carbon steel. Otherwise I am happy with the composter. It still looks fine on the outside and the frame is still in good condition. Looks like many others have had the same problem and the folks at Lifetime have sort of addressed the issue by coating the hardware with something.

The dual tumbler is about 4 years old. The hinge broke and i finally decided to replace it. Couldn;t find one that worked at the local hardware store so i decided to see if i could get one from Lifetime. To my surprise, not only can I get one, but I get it for free!! I just assumed once it was sold they would be like so many other manufacturers - it was mine at that point. Nice to be pleasantly surprised

This compost tumbler set is convenient, can hold a lot of food waste, and easy to divide your working compost with finished compost since there are two bins! I LOVE these tumblers. However, the handles on my rusted so that I can't lock the lids closed anymore. It is starting to attract a lot of bugs and I am afraid soon it will attract rats. I can't toss my compost anymore either and tossing it by hand in this tumbler is very inconvenient because of the design. I have seen that other people have had this issue and have gotten a replacement part or some type of fix from the company to ensure that the tumblers can lock closed. I would be interested in that so I can continue using this product!!

Yes the metal internal parts rust. But simply coating with spray on oil like WD40 or spray lithium grease will give more years of service. Spray the hinges and latch mechanism every 3 months or so helps a lot. But Lifetime should really make a design with stainless steel for the internal parts, that would solve many problems. Also cover the composter during rain to keep your mix from getting too wet. I got 2 giant plastic bags and simply drop a bag over each bin.

We bought this compost Tumbler for my wife on her birthday four years ago. It has been great and so easy to turn, however, the rust has been building up on the hinges and inside latches and getting harder and harder to open. Recently, the back hinges on one of the barrels rusted out and broke off, rendering the unit unable to be used. The handles have been rusting and harder to use but with a spray have been able to open it. It is a shame only one tumbler works now since we can't latch the other lid. Disappointed it did not last longer.

Metal parts of my rotating composter were rusty and no more usable. I asked for spare parts (thinking by myself that it would be difficult). Customer service has been incredibly kind and efficient, offering a total warranty! I wish we had the same in France. Thank you

Picked this up last weekend and was totally impressed. My old composter was all plastic and collapsed under its own weight. This unit is built to last and sturdily constructed. The internal venting system should work well and it tumbles easily to mix the compost well. Told everyone at work about it and a couple of them are considering purchasing one as well.

I purchased my first Lifetime Dual Composted last spring. It is ideal to have one composting while filling the second side. I have finally found something to keep the raccoons out! I purchased my second dual composted for my daughter at Christmas and she is just as thrilled as I am with the product. This is a must have product .
