Poor quality backpack %26 worst customer service

I purchased a SwissGear 3760 ScanSmart laptop Backpack from Sam's Club for my school going son and within couple of years the shoulder straps started tearing off and stitches came off. Since SwissGear offers 5 years of warranty and market their backpacks as strong and durable product, I raised a claim with them, but not only was the claim process tedious and cumbersome but the final outcome from the claim was a sham. First I had to file an online claim with all pictures of damages and various patches and parts of the backpack. And after filing an online, they wanted me to send them the bag patches through post with tracking ID, which cost me $6 and time. Maybe the goal of all this online Plus postal process is to make it harder for customers to file a claim. After all the required processes were completed, I got an approval for 15% off coupon from SwissGear which can ONLY be used on their retail website. And when I checked on their retail website all their prices were exorbitant plus they had shipping fees. Even after applying the coupon, the price was more than what I would pay at Sam's Club or some other online retailer to get the same SwissGear bag. It was a complete joke. When I complained to their customer service, I was told that the shoulder straps tore due to normal wear and tear. My son used the bag for school and if these high quality bags cannot manage the school items weight then what is the durability of these backpacks? So if you are fine with your shoulder straps tearing off which according to SwissGear is normal wear and tear, only then I would recommend SwissGear backpacks to anyone. I never expected such pathetic customer service plus poor quality bags from SwissGear!!

bad design flaw

Horrible design, not much room for anything because of all the pockets. Also If you dont put the zippers on the right side the bag will unzip while you are walking and your laptop/tablet will fall out, that happened to me at the airport and is why I'm returning this bag.

Don't buy this bag....opens on its own! Broke iPad

Purchased this bag because I travel a lot and keep all my Electronics in it. I love the compartments and the different pockets. but there is ONE MAJOR PROBLEM! the zippers just unzip on their own. It has done this 2x now. The first time dumped my iPad on the pavement and cracked my screen. So I put a lock on that zipper. The second time I was at a park and it just randomly unzipped another compartment and dumped my notebook, bible and book on the ground. I can no longer trust this! I am returning it.

Looooong lasting!

My 18-year-old used one bag all through high school. 4 years!! Carried tools and books in it. Threw it around in the bag by a senior year. Look like crap but it took it for 4 years. They are an amazing bag. My 30-year-old also had one bag and he used it for several several years. Great, Great bag!

Zippers are too loose ! Be Careful

I bought this backpack few months ago. It is a nice backpack but Zippers are very loose and it unzips itself. My laptop has a nice flight out of the back pack as the zipper was unzipped; luckily I had a small damage on it. Once again; it is a nice looking and useful laptop if the Zippers were stayed closed.

Doesn't Stay Closed!

Not the same. I have a previous Wenger Swiss Gear bag that has lasted years. So I first noticed that the fabric does not appear to be woven just kind of a pressed pattern and it sounds crinkly and stiff. Then while walking through the airport, the zippers were open. I said I thought I closed it, but then after walking some more they were open again. So, beware if you have any amount of weight like a laptop, they can come open on their own. Returned

Keeps coming unzipped

I really want to like this bag. It has lots of places to stash things. There’s a sturdy stash area for sunglasses. There’s a reinforced yet cushioned carrying handle with a metal cable inside. And indeed, this backpack will open up entirely for TSA scan with the laptop inside. HOWEVER, it’s not big enough for my 17” MacBook Pro inside a cushioned case. And worst of all, what makes it a PITA for my every day use is that it keeps coming unzipped, dumpling the contents into the floor, my car, etc. Sure, I could conscientiously zip the zipper to one side entirely so there’s no stress on the sippers when I pick it up, but that’s not realistic for me. I had such high hopes. I love this brand. It’s clearly made with attention to detail. Checking out alternative at that A to Z online place, with brands that are just a mishmash of letters, I can see the difference in quality. But the problem with the zipper makes it 2 stars at best for e dry day (student or professional) use. If it unzipped with my laptop inside I would be beside myself, since I already know a drop of 2-3 feet will crack a MacBook screen. Caveat emptor.

Verified Purchase

Spacious, Comfortable, Adjustable!

This Backpack is Spacious. I can fit my Lenovo Laptop, Macbook Pro 2017 Touchbar, iPad, Desk Lamp, and cables for all, all in this bag. With room left for more standard supplies like Notebook, Folders, Pens and Pencils. It is Comfortable - The Straps easily adjust to put the backpack on, and tighten them up for security and to prevent counter-movement wobble, and it's easy to release to open up the arm straps to put it on and take it off. All around best bookbag I've ever used.

filing a complaint, faulty zipper=computer damage

I bought this a month ago and this is the first trip I have used it for. The first leg of my airline flight I didn't have any issues. Now, 3 days ago I took the second leg of my trip. While standing (not moving) in line at the airport, the faulty zipper gave way and my work laptop and tablet went flying onto the floor. The tablet wasn't damaged but the computer was! Thank goodness it still could boot up! The back is badly bent.... It was in the computer compartment of the backpack! I put it in a different compartment and realized that zipper has the same issue - it doesn't want to stay shut. Yes the backpack was full. I had to mess with the zipper and put it in different positions to get it to stay shut! It will come undone VERY easily with simple pressure pulling on the seam. DO NOT put the zippers together at the top. It WILL come apart. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS, SAVE YOUR COMPUTER. I AM RETURNING THIS AND FILING A COMPLAINT. Funny thing is, I simply wanted to "upgrade" from my older Swissgear laptop - same model. It had NEVER had any issues for 10 years! NOW I have to get something else to get me through the rest of my trip! If you are traveling light or don't care about contents spilling out, go ahead and chance it. Otherwise, I wanted to warn others to not get this until they resolve this issue. It should be recalled.
