Great sound, lacks control
First off let me say I love my Sony WH-1000XM4! I love the sound, the Noise Cancelling they provide and how loud they get but smooth the sound is without hurting my ears. But their biggest downfall is the control function on their earmuffs. The touch/tapping functions are just not accurate or great. I tend to listen when I'm in bed and about to fall asleep but then they annoyingly skip or do something I didn't want them to do. Honestly, this is my biggest gripe and annoyance with these headphones, I still recommend them cause their sound is amazing but they REALLY need to develop a better way to handle the controls. I suggest actual buttons. I have a pair of Jabra Elite Active 75t & I LOVE their controls. Their sound doesn't co.e close to these Sony headphones but they've mastered the controls.

When you listen to music while wearing the headset on your ears, the headset will pause music playback automatically if the headset is removed. When the headset is worn again, the headset resumes music playback. It's totally possible to enjoy these headphones while lying down especially when wearing detection is off. These Headphones are great it has a wonderful range of sounds it’s good in the highs and lows the mid range sound is perfect. Now all that being said one of the best features of these headphones is the noise cancellation it’s not going to knock your socks off but it is good. If this is in your budget I completely recommend it if not there are plenty of other options on the market that will deliver same quality for a lower price.

FANTASTIC PRODUCT
This product was an excellent purchase on sale. They are probably worth the normal retail price. I was originally looking at the Bose product with similar features. I left it in my cart 1 day too long. When I went to purchase the Bose, they were no longer on sale but this Sony product was. I have been very happy with them, and they actually have more features than the Bose product.

I use these with my iPad, primarily for movies and alternatively for music. The audio quality is good for video and even better for music. The iPhone app allows you to granularly fine tune the performance to your personal taste, and it works really well. The only negative is that the noise cancellation works, but doesn't completely block out all noise as I can still hear extraneous noises faintly in the background. If you require total complete cancellation I'd look elsewhere, but for my purposes it works good enough. Also I believe there's a newer version/model of these that has better noise cancellation, but those are more expensive.

WH-1000XM4 The Good, The Bad and Ugly.
Good: Headphones are great with great sound compared to all headphones in the same category. Noise cancelling is one of the greatest. I have tested the noise cancelling in most crowded areas and it is one of the best. Battery life is one of the greatest I have seen so far. It is also very light weight so that you can wear it for a long time without any issues. Setting this is very easy with the sony app. The sony support is very attentive and very supportive. The Bad: If you are setting this up with multiple devices for example phone and laptop so that it can connect as soon as you switch the device it is very easy to do that but all the issues started happening after that. While connecting to the single device lets say phone if you start your laptop you will hear the message that "Second device connected" but after every 10-15 second it play the same message while you are listening the music on first device. It is so irritating and I found no solution, how to fix that. The Ugly: These headphones are not meant to be for Zoom conferencing, I had to exchange my first pair of headphones as I people were not able to hear me on the zoom calls. Also there was issues while calling to people over phone, Whenever I use to call people over phone the other party tells me that I am sounding like I am sitting very far from my phone.

So disappointed
I have owned several noise cancelling headphones, admiting only Bose products up to now: QC15 y QC25. Actually I loved them and was very pleased with them. Thinking on upgrading to a wireless version, I did my research and found quite good comments about WH-1000XM4, Superb bass and ideal for music; I love it, and the BEST noise cancelling headphone nowadays. I do not know if they are defective but with my QCs I weared them at the office and I did not listen my co workers even when they were 3 feet away and speak loudly. With the Sonys I expected to surpass that kind of quality but in the same situation I listen their voices muffled. The only way to avoid it is to crank the volumen which is unacceptable.

Poor performance for what I wanted
I bought this two years ago for listening to music while I practice dancing with other music playing. What I found out is that this head set is very sensitive to movement and it will turn on or off if I cough, moving my head a bit quickly. If all you need is to walk around and listen to music, then it is OK. However, after about half an hour or so, I found the tight headset is very uncomfortable. I have now been using my old Panasonic wired headset which is much comfortable than this. The noise cancellation works and music listening is fine. However, if you want to wear it for running or dancing, then look for something else.

The App is terrible!
It should be simple to enable me to toggle between two devices on the app. The headphones will allow me to toggle from a laptop to my iphone by double tapping on the right earpiece. But I can't easily switch back and forth any other way. Sorry, that's just lazy engineering!

Make sure that the headphones have the latest software update as it improves the overall performance of the headphones. Resetting and initializing the headset may resolve the switching issue. Please follow the steps below: Resetting the headset If the headset cannot be turned on or cannot be operated even when it is turned on, press both the power button and the CUSTOM button simultaneously while charging. The headset will be reset. The device registration (pairing) information is not deleted. If the headset does not operate correctly even after resetting, initialize the headset to restore factory settings. If the headset does not operate correctly even after resetting, initialize the headset. Turn off the headset while the USB Type-C cable is disconnected and then press and hold the power button and the CUSTOM button simultaneously for 7 seconds or more. The indicator blue flashes 4 times and the headset is initialized. This operation resets volume settings, etc. to the factory settings, and deletes all pairing information. In this case, delete the pairing information for the headset from the device and then pair them again. Awesome sound quality if you care about that stuff
Previously had AirPods Max and although they sounded ok these are much lighter and comfortable for my head. Also the Apple ones are too heavy and get tiring after a while. In the case of the Sonys these are incredibly flexible headphones that offer spectacular sound quality. So the new thing in 2021 is sound quality which means wired is hot and bluetooth is not. Best sound quality is through headphone jack and included wire if you have a hifi streaming service such as lossless Apple Music or Tidal. Actually if you really want to treat your ears to all out sound quality invest in a nice external digital to analog converter: that is the killer setup! If you really need the convenience though Bluetooth works just fine on these. Comes with very nice and convenient case and the headphones fold nicely to fit.
