Easy to use.

We got this to run the refrigerator, window a/c unit and the WiFi router in case of a power outage. It’s easy to set up and start. This one is gasoline only. If you’d like one that runs on propane, look for a dual fuel generator. It will cost a little more and they put out less power when running on the propane, which is why we opted for the gasoline model. Remember you’ll need to calculate the starting wattage of the items you want to run. You’ll need to add the running wattage of all the items you plan to plug in, and add the starting wattage of the item with the highest starting wattage. This number must be less than the peak output wattage of this generator (6600 peak watts). The total running wattage of all the items you’ll be plugging in must be less than the running watts of this generator (5300 running watts). Remember you could alternate items that you plug in. So if I want to plug something else in that would add up to more than the running wattage, I can unplug the refrigerator for a while in order to run the other item. Remember to place the generator a minimum of 20 feet away from any door or window to avoid carbon monoxide entering your home. If you plan to run it in heavy rain or snow, there are running covers you can order. Westinghouse has a really nice one.

Great features and Options!!

This is a well constructed generator. I was not really sure about it at first but once I took it out of the box I was well pleased. I like the option of using gas or propane it allows me to have more fuel and I don't have to keep a bunch of gasoline cans. Also it has a digital gauge to monitor voltage and hertz, and three option plugs(L14 -30R, TT-30R, 5-20R). Finally the ability to move it with the fold down handle and wheels make it easy for anyone to handle it.

Everything you need in one unit

This generator has everything you need to operate Items to your needs and to maintain the unit to keep it running for many years. I received the unit via UPS and after assembling the unit with a few items such as the wheel, mounting feet, oil and gas I connected the battery and the unit started right up and ran smoothly. I found the unit to run much quieter then I expected. Remember folks to run the unit for 1 hour with no load (nothing plugged into it) this is an important step in the break in of the generators gas motor. I'm very happy with my purchace.

Reliable and easy to use

Haven't had to use the generator yet, thankfully. Start it up on the first of each month and it always starts right up. It's easy to pull. As a smaller, and older, woman, I was happy that I can easily pull start it. Very much appreciate that. Thanks for a good product. MaryAnn Chapman

Straight out of the box.

The kick in the butt from Texas freezing over this year made us wish we had a generator. After researching many, we bought Westinghouse WGEN 5300s generator to have on hand primarily for hurricane season down on the gulf coast. After checking amperage on what things I'd want to run in the case we lose power, this seemed to fit our needs as an emergency generator to get through a few days or so. Out of the box the generator was very easy to assemble (wheels and rubber feet). It came with everything needed to put things together in addition to the oil needed with a long spout to help put the needed oil in the machine prior to it's initial start up. After following the set up instructions, I added some gas and boom, it fired right up. I ran it for about an hour straight and tried the 240 and 120 outlets. The generator is very simple and easy to use. After using the button to start, I did use the pull start to make sure it worked. Everything fired up and it ran nicely. I plan on running it every other week or so to make sure it doesn't go stale on me from hurricane season. I'm hoping we don't have any big hurricanes hit this year or next, but if they do, at least we have something to help stay a bit more comfortable if one comes and the power goes out.

Started Right Up

The assembly not very difficult. I did find the funnel they provided for adding the included oil a bit frustrating as it only allowed you to pour the oil at what seemed to be an unnecessarily slow rate. But that is a very minor thing and I'm nitpicking. After set up was complete, it started right up and ran like a top.

It is working

Just bought the WGen5300s through the local Menard's. The generator arrived in good shape, no dings or missing parts. I've run it through it's break-in cycle and tested it with small test loads. It has performed without a problem. Bought if as insurance when the power goes out. Hopefully I won't need it.

Compact generator with many features

I have had a generator for many years, but it was large and always hard to start. I bought this Westinghouse model mainly because of the electric start feature. This works very well. I was surprised happily that it was more compact, lighter, and had CO sensor.

Solid Generator!

I bought this generator for home backup power and am very impressed with the quality. The generator arrived promptly and in good shape. Assembly is a breeze and the oil needed comes with the generator. The oil funnel included makes adding oil easy and mess free. After assembly I started it, which only took one pull on the cord. After following the break-in instructions, I load tested my generator and everything works as it should. The data center display is very clear and helpful, especially for the maintenance reminders. I also appreciate the manual being well made, with good information clearly laid out. Anyone who's dealt with poorly written or vague manuals will know how wonderful a good manual is. This generator has the quality you would expect from Westinghouse and I expect to have this product for many years to come.

Easy to setup and go, right out of the box.

I have s different brand generator that was a bit underpowered for my needs. I wanted a more powerful unit that would run critical functions in my house during power outages such as 2 refrigerators and our well's water pump. This unit handles it well with power left for some lights and more. Even though the Westinghouse is a more powerful generator, it weighs a bit less than my older unit. The built in wheels and handle are a big plus. Out of the box assembly was quick and easy. Although I didn't use them, tools came with the generator.
