I am very lactose intolerant and every year this is the only cake I was able to enjoy, as it had absolutely no milk ingredients, and the buttercream frosting was so delicious. Yes, all that goodness meant jogging an extra mile or two everyday I had a slice but was always so worth it. We bought it religiously every single year for Easter.
Lo and behold, I had a rude surprise this past April of 2022. Me and my wife bought one and invited our family over. We got to the cake and I took a few bites. I noticed it tasted off, really off. No sweetness, just tasted really bland with hardly no flavor. Then I heard my wife yell at me from the kitchen, “Don’t take another bite. Look at what they did to the cake.” She brought the label over and when I read it, I saw the horror as to what they did to the cake, the only cake I was able to eat due to its lack of dairy ingredients… they turned it into a whipped Coconut cake, which has the ingredients my body is allergic to. No buttercream? YUCK! Why Sam’s Club? WHY????
It made me very sick all night and the early morning hours and had to call off work due to the pain this change caused me, and without warning, as they at least could have warned consumers about the change on the label! But I must say, when I called the Bakery Supervisor and told her about what happened, she offered to give me a full refund, and that put a big smile on my face. A big thumbs up for her!
Sam’s Club, please bring back the original Buttercream Coconut Cake next year and every year after that! It’s the only reason why we still buy a membership, among other things. The whipped cake doesn’t cut it! Reading this, I can hear people saying why wouldn’t I buy a Vegan cake at a health food store? Here’s the deal… they taste disgusting, they make you poop A LOT, and they make you poop things you never knew existed on God’s Green Earth! No thank you. Please bring back the original Buttercream Coconut Cake Sam’s Club.
