trying one more time because i love scotts
Bought this spreader 2 years ago. It did have air tires then. Two weeks ago it broke while using and I was unaware for 1/2 the lawn. Now I have embarrassing stripes. Bought the same to replace because I am a Scott's fan. Noticed they now have plastic wheels. It will be a few weeks before the new one is tried.
Drops to much fertlizer
It does not evenly spread fertilizer. It is causing streaking. First time the streaking occurred, I thought it was my fault. However, applied second treatment, same thing occurred. I've used a Scotts rotary spreader for over 35 years and never had this issue. Very disappointed. I'm hoping I can get a refund. Won't be using it again.

Poor quality, light duty.
I have been a Scotts spreader for over 30 years. My old basic models would last 3-5 years (less more recently). I purchaced a Scotts "PRO" Broadcast spreader last year expecting to buy a professional grade item. The cost was substantially more than the basic models. I used it last fall for over seeding and fertilizer. Loved it! I brought it out last weekend, pumped up the tires as they went soft over the winter. I started with lime and the rotary spin broke within a half hour. I had to borrow my neighbors farm supply bought spreader to finish. I contacted Scotts today after seeing many reviews with the same problem. I was informed I could receive a replacement part in 10-14 days or a refund in 4 weeks depending on how quickly I could send the control cable back. If you maintain your lawn in April you understand what a 2-4 week delay means to your lawn. Not sure Scotts does. The customer service was very good. I ordered the replacement part, but don't hold up much hope that it will arrive this week (today is Monday), 10-14 days delivery. I will try replacing the rotary blade (at my effort) on the unit that I paid more for, expecting more. Hope the new part works and that it last more than 2 applications. I truly believe in Scotts product but believe it may be time to change my brand of speaders.
We are sorry to hear of your disappointment with the Scotts Pro Edgeguard Broadcast spreader. We are glad that you did contact us and that we were able to send you the part needed to repair your spreader.
Poor quality
I bought this a few months ago from a local home improvement store. The spreader didn't perform all that well when it did. Furthermore, the plastic shaft has failed like others have mentioned. This spreader was definitely not worth the money it cost and i am outside of the return window at the retailer.

Cheaply made - doesn't last
I had a Scotts spreader for over 30 years & it finally died so I purchased this Pro Edgeguard. I had it for about 18 months and the spinner inside the basket broke off. I super glued it back on. The very next usage the disc on the bottom which throws the fertilizer broke off. These parts are apparently made from very cheap plastic and not built to last. Very disappointed.

Poor quality and poor design
Too much plastic. Have had problems with this unit from day 1. The drive mechanism for the dispenser 'prop' is all just a press-fit design. It works loose and the prop no longer spins. I'm constantly having to hammer the axle plugs back into the center of the tires - sometimes that fixes it and sometimes it doesn't. This past weekend I finally put band clamps around the wheels where they attach to the axles to get it to work reliably. My yard has some tree roots in it from a maple tree and apparently, unless your yard is completely smooth and flat, this unit basically falls apart. I love the spreader concept - if only the quality were there. I basically wasted my money on this unit.

You get what you pay for.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Yes this costs a bit more, but it's worth it. It's a good spreader but the pneumatic wheels are awesome. they made it very easy to push over uneven terrain. The edgeguard works great too, no more sweeping up when I'm done. I'm sorry I didn't switch over and DIY sooner. Good spreader! Plus it has that Scotts warranty on it...
This product is cheaply made and not worth the price
I normally do not write reviews but I am so extremely disappointed with this spreader. I have used Scott's products before and have been satisfied, but this spreader has been a disaster. I also should note that this is the third spreader of this kind I have used/returned in the last year, with each time something new breaking within the first or second use. On the first spreader it was the gear box locking up and the plastic snapping, the second time the cable would not work right when the lever was depressed and now recently I went to use it and the tire went flat. Upon inspection, I discovered a gaping hole in the inner-tube after one use. I'm done with this spreader and Scott's products. Cheaply made plastic parts and overpriced..three strikes and I'm out.

Works Great for One Year
I have used this spreader with Scotts fertilizer and it worked for one year. I had the best lawn on the block for one year. Unfortunately, I am in my second year and the last few times I have to inflate the tire every 30 minutes to ensure it is at the fullest pressure or it will not spread properly. Despite this, we have uneven fertilization but more importantly it is leaving burn spots which never happened the first year - same Scott fertilizer amount. Tried another fertilizer brand for the front yard and had same result so confirmed that the spreader is not long lasting. If you want something for one year go for it.

Very very poor quality
Unfortunately I too was very disappointed in experiencing how poorly designed/built this product is. Didn't even last 12 months which translates to 3 seasons where we live. Spreader was only user ~6 times. Same plastic shaft broke that many others have experienced.
