Expensive but the inflatable wheels are great.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the rubber wheels. Not only do you get that awesome traction, you don't get fertilizer caked in the inner crevices that the plastic wheels had. Bigger capacity is good too. Don't think the price tag needed to be that high but I don't regret the purchase.

Somewhat disappointed

Calibration is way way off. It dispenses way too much fertilizer. Spreader setting on the Turf Builder bag was 3.5. I went through about 1/3 of a bag on about 1,000 sq. ft. of lawn. I finally had it turned down to less than 2 in order to complete the remaining 4,000 sq. ft. of lawn with the rest of the bag (12,000 sq. ft. bag from Costco). There should have been a calibration tool included with the spreader like there was on my 20 year old Scotts drop spreader. So far nothing has broken or fallen off but it's only less than a year old, time will tell. I do like the wide swath that it dispenses and the edge guard. Now that I've got the setting dialed in I guess I'll keep using it but it still "aint right".

Don't Buy...

The overall quality of this spreader is good. I have approx 1 acre lot. I purchased it approx. 18 months - 2 years ago and it seemed to operate finely until suddenly it began making a clicking sound & the right wheel began to slide & not rotate while the left wheel rotated freely. I certainly did not anticipate such a short operating life after paying a premium price for it. What good is it if the wheels won't properly rotate?! I wouldn't reccomend buying a new spreader every 18 months - 2 years.

Feed does not shut off when you release the lever

I purchased this unit hoping it would be better than the one I already have, which is also a Scotts spreader. While spreading this morning the 'feed door' would not shut when I released the feed lever when I reached the end of a run. It did this at least ten times. I do like the feature of shutting down the right side for trimming and when working properly it was a great unit. The problem of the feed not shutting off in the past, and I assume I will see the same problem now, is that it kills the grass when you get so much fertilizer in one spot.

Thought I bought a professional spreader.

What I like... 1) Inflatable tires (although they are small). 2) Edge Guard. What I don't like... 1) Snap fit wheel/axle connection that drives the impeller. On first use, tire would spin but impeller would not. Had to troubleshoot to figure out why impeller wasn't spinning. I disassembled and added duct tape to axel in order to get the impeller to spin. 2) If the fertilizer is not of uniform size or has clumps, the flow control door can and does jam in the open position and will not close. 3) Speader pattern throws more product to the left side, than the right side. I'm curious whether Scotts actually field tests their spreaders, in real world use?

poor quality with too much plastic

i purchased this and is my second one, foolishly i thought my first one that lasted a month of light work was just a dud, but after owning this one for about 6 months it is a dud too. Too much plastic in important places. The wheel screw gets lost wheels stop turning and to make it better you have to put a bolt through but then that is too much for the plastic. This product is rubbish for the cost. very disappointed Steer Clear!!

Nothing is Pro (professional) about this product!

Don't ever buy this Pro Edge lawn spreader. From the start, it begins breaking, the plastic wheel hubs break down and cause wheels to wobble, the ProEdge feature (also plastic) constantly pops out of engagement providing no edge guard, the spinning unit that distributes fertilizer under the filling tub (also all plastic) breaks apart, jambs and often cause the wheel hub to lock making the wheels drag on the lawn. Pure junk and Scotts engineering team really needs to go out and use their products like a consumer to experience just how poor their design is.

Cable snapped after only 4-5 uses

Hi, I upgraded my scott's green spreader last year to the scott's black pro edgeguard spreader. It is only about a year old and was used about 4-5 times. The 20 inch spring cable attached to the right hand black trigger snapped a few inches below the cable spring. I normally would not write about this, but this spreader was more expensive and advertised as being more heavy duty, rugged, having heavier tires, supposed to be longer lasting than the green scott's spreaders. I have never had a cable snap on one of the spreaders. I have also emailed the company to try to figure out how to fix this or if I just need to purchase another one.

Great for making stripes

This thing makes stripes in your yard. I felt like it was “throwing” the fertilizer properly, but you can clearly see my “5 foot spaced” stripes in my yard. Very unhappy.

Our apologies that your lawn experienced some issues after using the Scotts Pro Edgeguard Broadcast Spreader. Narrow, light green or yellowish streaks may be due to not properly overlapping when applying a product which contains fertilizer. Broad streaks, the width of a spreader or wider, may be caused by several things including: 1. A spreader out of calibration 2. Rusted or broken spreader 3. Incorrect setting, or 4. Pulling the spreader backwards while in the open position. We do stand behind our products with a guarantee which we would be happy to extend to you. At your earliest convenience, feel free to contact us at 1 (888) 270-3714. Refer to this review when calling.

Terrible do not buy

The spreader does not spread above the wheels so the product spread with it as only as wide as it's base. Collects product in the wheels as well. Recall this garbage
