Easy - but wish the results provided more information

This test helped me solidify that my body doesn't digest wheat, gluten and certain cheeses - while I'm extremely sad about these results, it will help me in making food choices in the future. As an aside, I wish I could see the actual reactivity levels, and how that fell in with the population of other testers. (i.e. mild reactivity to chicken, what percentile is that across the population - is that common? etc.)

I would use this product again

I am very pleased. I received my test promptly. Even though the direction were simple and clear I didn't get a large enough blood sample. They immediately sent me another test kit at NO charge. The results were surprising and so extremely helpful especially the hidden foods.

Great information to help guide me on my health journey!

I wanted to do the food sensitivity test because as a child I had many health issues and allergies. I have been dealing with inflammation and joint and muscle pain despite eating well and exercising. I wanted a picture of how my body was responding to the food I was eating. I was surprised by my results. I knew I had sensitivities to wheat and dairy as I would have significant upset when eating those items. But to find there were several other common foods I eat all the time that may be causing reaction in my body was eye opening. I plan to use my test results to do an elimination of those food I am sensitive to and then reintroduce them to see how my body truly reacts. I'm excited to feel better in my body!

So accurate!

I requested the food sensitivity test for Christmas. It was so easy to use and the response was quick! The results really helped learn to manage my diet. I went all weekend not eating trigger foods and felt amazing. Definitely a lifestyle changer. Love it.

Are my results accurate?

The kit was very well set up and very easy to use! But it took almost 3 weeks to get my results back. The results is what confused me. I have always been treated for a dairy sensitivity, but my results showed a low dairy sensitivity and a moderate sensitivity to a variety of food that has never bothered me before, to my knowledge. So I am curious as to if the results are accurate.

Results weren't what I expected but make perfect sense

I ordered this test because I was at my wit's end trying to figure out why I couldn't lose weight and why I felt so sluggish all the time. I had major surgery last year (kidney and spleen removed) at the same time I was going through menopause (just turned 54). I thought the 2 of those things together had changed my system in a way I couldn't understand. I had been the same 120-125 lbs my entire adult life as well as very active. Following the surgery, I gained 20 lbs in less than 6 months. It didn't matter how little or much I ate and it didn't seem to matter WHAT I ate. Then I found out that my Dad had become gluten intolerant late in life. I assumed our shared DNA meant that was likely for me too so I cut gluten out of my diet. I did feel somewhat better, not as bloated, but it didn't make my weight any easier to manage and I still didn't feel right. I ordered this test expecting to see gluten as "high reactivity" but I needed to know what else I was reacting to and didn't know it. In the intervening time before this test but after I cut gluten, I was trading the gluten for Greek yogurt and cottage cheese, always with lots of nuts and seeds added for crunch. I figured it was good for me and filling and would be doing something good for me while making me miss bread etc less. Fast forward to my results. Gluten is "low reactivity", but Cow's milk (all the things I've been eating and never thought were a problem) was "high". Also high on the "moderate" scale were all the kinds of nuts and seeds I had been adding. I was shocked. I had eliminated something that wasn't really the problem, and although not eating bread etc did make me feel a little less "heavy", it's all the other things I was eating that were actually the problem. It's only been a few days since I got my results and switched my diet around but I can already tell a HUGE difference. Without this test, I would never have figured this out.

My rating has no effect on the soundness of the allergy test

I took. I didnt do it complelty as told because I didnt fully read instructions which makes me wonder about veracity of results but it didnt fail so I assume they had enough to work with. Read the hints, they actually make it a lot easier if you arent use to poking yourself to bleed. Anyways 3 stars because I'm allergic to stuff but like I said depends on quality of test. I know I'm slightly allergic to gluten I assume because I have one gene for celiac disease out of two. Maybe it doesnt express itself at all but I got a minimum allergy for it and it is my worse one. The other 11 or so I had for minimal were all common foods I eat and grapes! I recently switched to drinking wine so wondering about gut permeability. Basically anything bad besides sugar seems to be an allergen. WTH? not happy with result but really want to test again to see if I got the same results. Dont think most people do that and it slightly worries me. Not that I have the money. Going to do a elimination diet on the 12 things that are minimum then move on to the 88 or so that are slight. Some of the slight are definitely noticeable to me like black tea on a empty stomach. Makes me feel how I think people feel on chemo with their nausea. Definitely bad. Coffee is slight too but I drink all the time with no noticeable effects except being tired eventually and regretting not eating breakfast cause coffee is enough. not.

FAST AND EASY

I love that this test was easy. Great directions. Everything you need. AND I did not have to take time off of work for doctor appointments. To me, the cost was probably cheaper than a doctor appointment that would have also have added lab expenses. I also love that I can look up my ratings whenever and where ever I want until I have it memorized.

Fast, easy, informative

My results came back quickly with a list of foods I reacted to, plus lists of items containing those items I may not have been watching for. I like that there was a plan included for eliminating these items and adding back slowly to see what the reaction is. My only suggestion would be instead of starting with the items I had the biggest reaction to, start with the smaller reactions. I feel like the lower tolerance items wouldn't stay in my system as long. I would recommend to a friend. The hardest part is poking your own finger.

This test didn't help much

The basis of these tests is the detection of antibodies against specific types of food. The positive side is that the blood collection kit was easy to use, easy to ship back to the testing lab, and pretty quickly evaluated for my results. However, it was difficult to assess the results, that in my case included high levels of antibodies to cow's milk and almonds. Neither of those foods caused me any indigestion. Those findings led me to seek more information about such tests from the NIH website, that concluded: "...Physicians should caution patients about the controversy surrounding testing for food sensitivity. Recent position papers from European and American allergy and immunology societies have emphasized the limitations and potential misuse of IgG4 testing, indicating that these tests are not appropriate for making a diagnosis of food allergy." In other words, these tests are unreliable for the understanding of food intolerances..

Thank you for your review, Phil! We appreciate all the feedback we receive. Although people sometimes use the terms "food allergy," "food intolerance," and "food sensitivity" interchangeably, our Food Sensitivity tests measure immunoglobulin G (IgG) reactivity and are not intended to detect or reflect IgE-mediated food allergies. Additionally, our Food Sensitivity tests are non-diagnostic in nature, meaning that IgG reactivity cannot, on its own, diagnose a food sensitivity. This is why the recommended two-part elimination diet is so important in determining which foods in your current diet may be causing any unwanted symptoms. Without guidance, this process can take several months to a year! Our Food Sensitivity tests are designed to help to narrow down the list of possible offending foods so that our customers can start feeling better sooner. All of the at-home sample collection testing we offer has been thoroughly validated against traditional testing conducted in doctor's offices and clinics. All of the laboratories that process our tests are CLIA-certified; some are also CAP-accredited. Thanks again for your feedback! If you have any further questions, please reach out to us at contact@everlywell.com.
