Bought this trash can on sale the first time thinking it was just a stainless steel trash can...imagine my surprise when the husband asked me why it needed batteries! Was elated to find out this one opened on its own! I had to have a second one and putchased it at regular price because I loved the first one so much!!! They both have worked with absolutely no problems at all. They have really spoiled my family and now when we go to other people's houses we expect their can to open for us!!! Love this product!!!

I've had this trash can for 6 years! It has been through a entire house move where it got dented but we were able to get the dent out easily. I can't say enough good things about this trash can. The extra volume is a huge plus as I now live in a rural area where you have to take your own trash to the dump. I saw a couple of remarks about trouble finding bags. I have always used Sam's 33 gallon trash bags which work great! The extra space in the bag when I remove it is perfect for pizza boxes or anything large that you don't want to put in the trash can because it will take up so much room. If this trash can ever does stop working, I would purchase another one without hesitation!

Cool factor, high. Reliability, very low. Uses C batteries, not D. Battery life in this trash can is shorter than expected. Battery compartment design almost ensures that, eventually, battery weight will jar loose the compartment cover when replacing the garbage can lid; when this happens, cover and batteries fall into the trash. Would not buy another and have prevented family and friends from purchasing this model. Recommendation: purchase a model with a step-on bar, instead. I bought one, from Sam's, and have been much happier with it.

I normally do not submit reviews but this is one of the worst products I have ever purchased. We wanted to use it at our beach home for weekly summer rentals. It is very unintuitive to work and we know our renters will have issues trying to figure out how to use it. The liner ring keeps falling out whenever you lift the lid. The plastic under the lid for batteries is cheap and has sharp edges. The company will only accept returns if the product has not been used. So obviously they do not believe their product is reliable. Stay away. It deserves 0 stars.

Horrific design… a pain to put bag in and out… many reviews state people accidentally throw away the ring often… you lose a good portion of the bag when used properly and it’s quite an ordeal to situate this for proper use. The effort is not worth the sensor convenience.

Flimsy material and worse customer service. I've been waiting for a replacement lid since November. The lid opening is narrow and the hinge doesn't always operate properly. I've gotten nothing but excuses from customer service. This can is still under warranty!! I'm looking for a new can and Company!

I like it a lot. It works very well and looks nice too. It takes 3 D batteries to operate (not included). Very roomy, adequate size. I do advise that when you pull your trash bag out that you make sure you don’t accidentally throw away the liner ring as my husband did, it’s easy to miss. That was my only complaint. Other than that it’s worth the buy.

Bought two last year and loved the sensor.......now I have to turn it off because it has developed a mind of its own. It sometimes goes up and not down, it quite often makes weird noises and goes up when no one is near it and we have to turn it off at night because it makes noise all night long. My husband found a complaint page on ninestars gatbage cans, sounds like we are not the only unhappy campers. Too bad, loved it when it worked

Trash can is nice and large, but has a few issues. The stainless steel on it is very thin and gets dented extremely easy. The sensor on the trash can be annoying because you have to get really close for it to open which can get annoying. Great design, but there is room for much Improvement.

I LOVE this larger 21 gallon can for my kitchen because it holds more, looks sleek, and contains any trash odor. Love the stainless look and requires 2 D size batteries. No more touching the lid and very easy to empty--be prepared...the more you put in, the heavier it'll be to empty but that's a welcomed given!! ;)
