The Perfect Upgrade for Pet Owners
I recently upgraded to the Dyson Ball Animal 3+, and I am absolutely thrilled with its performance. As someone who owns multiple pets and has a number of small area rugs, finding a vacuum that can handle both without getting stuck was a major challenge. I previously had the Dyson Ball Animal 2, which was great but struggled with small rugs, often getting jammed or causing them to bunch up. The Dyson Ball Animal 3+ has completely solved this issue, and I couldn’t be happier!

Love my Dyson 3!
I purchased my Dyson 3 about six months ago. I use every attachment except the pet brush frequently. I have purchased three Dyson vacuums over the past 15 years and this model is the best one yet. I especially love the 3 floor levels on the vacuum head and how easy it is to change levels. I love all the attachments and have also found attachments from previous models fit this vacuum too. Every attachment makes it easier to use and makes me feel like an expert cleaner. The amount of suction on the Dyson 3 is phenomenal. The only thing I can think of that would make my Dyson 3 better, would be if Dyson would make an attachment to clean blinds.
Unbelievable suction!!
This is my second Dyson. My first is an Animal Ball 2. It is still going strong other than my hose has a tear in it. It is almost 5 years old and I use it 7 days a week! I have OCD really bad so I clean every day. If something can take the abuse I put it through it has to be good. I wanted to get the latest model so I got the Animal Ball 3. I love the new motor bar cleaner head. It works very well and is easy to adjust between my thick carpet and my tile. It is also easy to clean. There is a button on the side that allows it to swivel up to pull the beater bar cover off to clean. The head is also smaller than my 2 which allows me to get in between chairs and such that my other wouldn’t allow. I won’t ever use another vacuum again. I’ve tried two of the biggest competitors and they don’t even compare. Seems like all the negative reviews on here are people being babies. Yes, my machine will fall over sometimes when I use the hose to clean something. Big deal. Most of the time I don’t go out far enough for it to fall over. The main thing I want my machine to do is pick up the stuff on the floor and this one does it incredibly well. I cannot believe how strong the suction is. So far I am very happy with this vacuum. Also, I have read many reviews talking about how heavy this vacuum is. I can pick it up with one arm and it ain’t very heavy at all. And my shoulders are terrible. It’s actually one of the lighter ones. Much lighter than older dyson’s. I have thick high pile carpet and it goes over it easily. You have to adjust the cleaner head to the floor type you are using. I also read someone say this animal 3 doesn’t pick up as good as the animal 2. That is NOT true. If someone isn’t satisfied with this vacuum, they won’t be satisfied with any.
Great suction and it's easy to clean!
We have a shepherd and needed a vacuum with better suction for our newborn. It has everything we were looking for - great suction, easy to clean, and the pet groom tool! I really love that the bin opens all the way and is washable. The filter doesn't smell as bad as my older dyson did. I was especially amazed at how easy it is to access the internal parts so you can unclog it if necessary Also, my dog loves to be brushed with the groom tool!
So disappointed!
This is my first and last Dyson. I was so excited after hearing how great Dyson is, but it is my biggest regret when it comes to appliance purchases. It is unbelievably heavy, and the hose used for attachments is so difficult and unwieldy. I cannot impress enough have physically difficult and demanding it is to use this machine. I can't imagine a frail person being able to use this. You need strength, stamina and patience. In addition, the piece that keeps the vacuum upright while using the hose broke on the 2nd use. Now I have to hold up the heavy vacuum upright while trying to maneuver the hose, which is next to impossible and physically exhausting. If you live in a small apartment, the hose is so stiff, it won't bend well and if there is not a lot of room between furniture, you'll be knocking things off and hitting the walls and ceiling with the attachments. It's hard to believe this machine passed any serious testing. I am so disappointed. For the expensive price and reputation, I feel duped.
Hello Petra, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're so disheartened to hear that you've found your recent purchase of the Ball Animal 3 to be so disappointing. This is a full size upright vacuum, and the weight is just over 17 pounds, which is on par with the majority of our other uprights. We wouldn't expect that the machine is so heavy, that it's completely unbearable to use, but are sorry that seems to have been your experience. There should not be any parts on your machine that have broken after just two uses, and we'd like to learn more about this, and make things right. We would not expect this to be your experience. We encourage you to get in touch with us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We will be looking forward to your correspondence. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
Disappointed
I had high expectations when I bought this vacuum, for well thought out compromises and clever design. Some features are well done like the ball that turns the vacuum by twisting the handle (took me a while to figure that out) and the easy to empty debris container. But some features are not good compromises. One is the self storing hose. While this works well to store the hose, it is like fighting an elephant to use it. It constantly wants to collapse to the storage petition while using it, causing the vacuum to move toward you and the hose to kink near the wand. This is unlikely to improve with time because it is partially caused by the strong vacuum and negative pressure in the hose. The strong vacuum also makes it very difficult to vacuum an area rug. When you get to the edge of the rug and try to reverse direction, the vacuum sucks the rug up and jams the rug beater. You have to shut the vac off to detatch it. To avoid this you have to vacuum one direction and then lift the vac off the floor and put it back in the middle of the rug for each pass. I would prefer a non-collapsible hose that I don't have to fight. It might make sense to offer that as an accessory. The beater bar head is too high (and not wide enough) to get under many objects when used on a hardwood floor. Perhaps an accessory without a beater bar that has a low profile (and wider) that can be mounted in place of the beater?
Hi Dave, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback. We love to hear and learn from our owners. With regard to the hose on your Ball Animal 3, our hoses are generally pretty stiff right out of the box. They will loosen up over time, eventually becoming more flexible or pliable. You can fully outstretch the hose and leave it stretched like that over night - this can help it to relax some and become a bit easier to use. You might find that when you are vacuuming surfaces such as area rugs or mats, that are not fixed down to the flooring underneath, that it's hard to do so, due to the powerful suction this unit provides. The cleaner head will form a tight seal to the flooring underneath. You may find that by adjusting the slider to the left on the front of the cleaner head will result in an easier maneuverability on those surfaces. If you have any other questions/concerns, please get in touch with us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
Better than a shark vacuum.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve got a dogs that sheds a lot. It picks up there hair no problem. Has so much suction while running on hard wood floor. It stick to the floor a bit. Everything comes down that my shark vacuum did none of these things.
Does not pick up debris
Vacuum pushes debris and does not pick it up. This includes a little popcorn kernel. It does not pick up plastic wrappers. Actually sectioned one to the shield for the rollers. Did well with dust and fur in the carpet. I didn't find it hard to push. If you have any debris that you wish to pick up, this is NOT your vacuum
Hello, Thank you for your review. This is Miella from Dyson. We're sorry for the frustration with your Ball Animal 3 machine. The Ball Animal 3 features a self-adjusting cleanerhead, and it adjusts itself to the height of the flooring. Dyson manufacture vacuum cleaners are suitable for most flooring types. However, we are unable to test our machines on every flooring permutation. Therefore, we always recommend that you contact your carpet retailer/manufacturer before using your new Dyson or any other vacuum cleaner. We'd value the opportunity to learn more about your experience with your Dyson as we'd like to help ensure you are having a 5-star experience. Please feel free to reach out to us at askdysonUS@dyson.com, and we will be in touch. Best Wishes, Miella Dyson Customer Support
Great picking up dog hair but...
I had a Dyson for about 15 yrs. Took it for routine maintenance once. Occasionally a string would get wrapped around the bar and I would have to take it apart, not a big deal. I've had 3 dogs while owning this vacuum, the most recent was a husky we had for 7 years. It worked great. A month ago my son moved out and took his husky with him. I decided he would need a good vacuum and knew he couldn't afford a dyson on his own so I gave him mine. Still works great and have the needed attachments. He was thrilled as his girlfriends vacuum died. I researched several before I decided on another Dyson. This is great at picking up hair and whatever else it finds but it's made much cheaper, doesnt move as smooth as my old standard one and the tubing for the handheld is shorter. I used to be able to reach the ceiling easily. I struggle now. I think the warranty is only 3yrs now too. Was 5. I considered trading back with my son but I'm gonna be paying it off for a few more months. That being said, I like the function, wish the form and price were better.
Hello, Thank you for your review. This is Miella from Dyson. We can understand your concern with your Ball Animal 3 upgrade. The Ball Animal 3 upright machine is made of ABS plastic, which is the same material in police riot shields. They all go through a very rigorous testing phase to ensure they can withstand much more than your average bump and drop. The max reach is a little over 15 feet for the Ball Animal 3, and out the box, the hose may be more stiff since it's new. However, it will become much more flexible over time. In the meantime, we recommend pulling the wand/hose all the way out before using it to utilize the reach. We'd value the opportunity to learn more about your experience with your Dyson as we'd like to help ensure you are having a 5-star experience. Please feel free to reach out to us at askdysonUS@dyson.com, and we will be in touch. Best Wishes, Miella Dyson Customer Support
Love the vacuum hate the hose.
Vacuum does a great job. The hose isn’t easy to keep extended while using, it kinks back, if you tug it to straighten it, the vacuum lunges toward you at times or falls over. For the price, I don’t I don’t know why they hose is such a useless piece. I also wish the attachments were labeled or came with a book to explain what each one could be used for.
