High Quality Generator

I needed a high quality and dependable generator large enough to power most of my house in Florida during storm power outages so I reached for a trusted name in power, Westinghouse. I did not want to take a chance with my family's comfort and security during stressful times and have always found Westinghouse products well engineered and reliable. This 12.5kw peak and 9.5kw run generator is big on performance, features and value in a compact and relatively small package. I haven't had it that long but initial run-in tests have been flawless, I will have the electrician out in a week or so to install a transfer switch/interlock and feel comfortable knowing it is ready to rock when we need it.

Well built with all the features you need

I bought this to run my house if our power goes out. With multiple starting options, and clear easy to follow instructions, everyone in the family knows how to start it with little effort. There is even a port to plug a charger into so you do not have to disconnect the battery. They thought of everything when designing this.

Love it so far

Just got it up and running after delivery yesterday. Easy prep and started perfect. Showing 242 volts on meter. Remote start is so nice. Smaller and quieter than my old Honeywell 7500. Battery charger is great extra. Waiting for the 50 amp cord and transfer switch plug install before I can test it on my home. Very pleased.

More than one has the right to expect at the price

I bought this generator after our old generator (top brand name) swallowed a valve. The Westinghouse is not the cheapest in this class, but it seems to occupy a sweet spot of price, features, output, and warranty. Assembly was effortless. Westinghouse includes EVERYTHING you need besides a 10mm wrench and gas. Even the oil is included and premeasured. The wheels are blow-molded plastic but very sturdy, have ball bearings and are totally appropriate in quality for the price point. Rolling the unit around is very easy. The folding handle is sturdy and excellent. The big selling point on this genset was the 50A outlet. Those are hard to find at this price point, but this enables us to power the entire house with reasonable limitations. Starting was amazingly easy. I knew it had electronic start, but I didn't realize that it had the smarts to go through several start cycles automatically until the engine catches. It's really a nice feature to have if its my wife who has to start the generator while I'm away. Starting on the recoil starter is also easy. Other pleasant surprises were the AGM battery (leak proof) that was included. I was fully expecting to have to put acid into the battery, but nope, this was easy. Choke on this generator is automatic/electric. A very nice surprise at this price point. Air filter changing is tool-less. Very nice to have. Spark plug wrench is included. Things that could use improvement: - Shipping carton is far too flimsy. I know that no one wants to pay for a crate, but a double-wall corrugated box with a reinforced floor should be considered. There has to be some type of cost-benefit on warranty claims with this. There is just no way for a single-wall cardboard box to survive the number of truck transfers going coast to coast. The lack of a bottom reinforcer was a surprise. - 12V battery charger is not intelligent and cannot be left on for long periods. This is clearly stated in the manual, but given the fact that the battery really needs to be on a maintainer, this is a small disappointment. The upshot is that there is *no* drain on the battery when the switch is off. There's a 20mA drain with the switch on, so expect the battery to die in a couple of days if the switch is bumped on. - The battery cables can be inadvertently installed so as to rub on the frame. This generator really vibrates, so there need to be some due caution there. It feels like some spiral wrap to prevent chafing might be in order as well as some locking nuts on the battery terminals. - Oil filler cap should be double-checked before shipment. Mine was loose and there was a bit of leftover oil in the carton. It caused no problems, other than an extra 20 minutes at the store trying to figure out if it was a loose cap or damage. - fuel level indicator needs some adjustment. I'm sure that the user can do this just by bending the float arm. I just haven't done so yet. - Muffler - I'm sure it's to specification, but the unit is quite loud given the large size of the muffler. I wish there was an aftermarket option to purchase a quieter muffler. I knew this from the reviews, so this was not a surprise, nor am I unhappy given the overall value, but it would be nice to be able to swap out a more effective unit. - User manual could use some fixes: (1) the electrical schematic shows an an electric fuel valve, but the valve on this model is manual. (2) Schematic shows an emergency stop switch. There is none. (3) The fuel strainer on the fuel valve is not explained in the manual or the schematic. While likely obvious to some, when servicing the unit in the dark, there's the question of strainer orientation and the order in which the strainer and gasket are installed. I installed the strainer first, then the gasket. I hope that's correct. The above are minor points that I would not let dissuade me from purchase again, and may well do so for a family member. There really isn't a better deal on the market once one adds up what's included for the price: wheels, battery, oil, tools, remote start, 50A outlet, GFCI outlets, etc. Note: I was given a free accessory as part of writing this review, but it really has no influence on my opinions expressed here.

Beast of a generator!

I bought this generator to ensure we have power in the event of an emergency. I just received it and it powered right up after adding oil and fuel. Very impressed with the way it performs. I hooked up a large air compressor just to test it out and it runs like a champ. I'm very happy I bought this generator. It gives me great peace of mind.

Awesome Generator

I bought this generator to power my house in the event of power-outages. Just received delivery of the unit on Friday, Oct 22nd and already fired it up. This generator provides enough amps/watts to power my entire house (about 1800 sq/ft) - AC, Furnace, Tankless Hotwater, fridge, oven, washer/dryer... the list goes on.

nice generator

Nice generator, but wheel support had to be re-welded to support the wheels, still the wheel support needs to be more sturdy. shipping was awful, shipped in a normal shipping box with no support for the very heavy generator. as a result there were dents in the generator.

Great features at a good price.

I bought this generator based on the good reviews, good company reputation, and at a reasonable price. I liked the fact that this generator has a 50 amp receptacle which will allow me to run 2 refrigerators and the well pump at the same time with power to spare.

Great Generator

I recently purchased the Westinghouse Portable Generator, and it has exceeded all my expectations. As someone who frequently enjoys outdoor adventures and camping trips, finding a reliable power source has always been a challenge – until now! Setting it up is a breeze, and the user-friendly interface ensures that even those without technical expertise can get it up and running in no time. One of the standout features of this generator is its impressive power output. Despite its portable size, it packs a punch and can easily handle a variety of devices and appliances. From charging my smartphone and powering a mini-fridge to running essential camping equipment, this generator has proven itself to be a versatile powerhouse. The fuel efficiency is another major plus. I was pleasantly surprised by how long it can run on a single tank, providing a consistent and reliable power source throughout my entire camping trip. The low noise level is also a huge bonus, allowing me to enjoy the peaceful serenity of nature without the disturbance of a loud generator. Safety features are well thought out, with automatic shut-off in case of overheating or overloading, providing peace of mind during operation. The durability of the build is apparent, and it seems built to withstand the rigors of outdoor use. In conclusion, the Westinghouse Portable Generator has truly enhanced my outdoor experiences. Its combination of portability, power, efficiency, and safety features make it a top-notch choice for anyone in need of a reliable and convenient power source. I wholeheartedly recommend it to fellow adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts – you won't be disappointed!

no more wires

we purchased this generator due to the numerous power outages we are having in our area due to severe weather that seems to be coming more regular than in the past. We are having a disconnect box installed, so we can just plug and go without having to worry about running extension cords all over the place - this will be so much safer for us and our pets
