Starts out cool but then heats up quite effectively, providing relief. I used my Biofreeze on my back of my foot I had issues with my back of the foot the pain went away. Effective relief and recommend it to others.

I must say I may never go back to regular ointment out of the bottle. I used this for some discomfort on my calf muscles. The smell is not over powering & it really is soothing. So easy to use.
