Watchout for state return issues

I had a horrible experience with this product. I spent a lot of money just to do this online. The federal program was completed and I then went into the Ohio return. When completed, the federal was filed fine but the Ohio return was not found in the file. I was on the phone for hours with various support personnel. They ended up sending me a desktop version. I had to re-enter all my federal information by hand because the tax.file would not come into the program. The two program are different and handle some line items different so I have a small descrepancy. I had paid for the state return originally. Then I had to pay for it again to be able to load the Ohio program. I have submitted refund requests for all amounts. I could have completed hand forms spending less time.

Final Return Not Filed

I filed an S-Corp extension. When I tried to do the final return, it would not let me send it electronically, it kept telling me it had already been filed in March. I ended up mailing the return. For what you pay for the software, this should not happen!

Turbotax is awful

Artificial Intelligence: a program that makes you learn how it works rather than being one that is easy to use. Each and every year one encounters more and more idiocies. This year, the inability to file when a 0 dollar ETF didn't have the 'associated bank number last 4 digits' with it. Not only that, but on trying to do the electronic submission, it failed and didn't even point me to the point of failure.

IL fiduciary tax form 1041 2024

well i was on the phone for two days. Yesterday 2/10 I bought Illinois Fiduciary 1041 for my trust. It never downloaded and the guy on the phone said it was cuz the program said purchase 2/11 when I had a receipt of my purchase on 2/10. So then on 2/11 it still would not let me download the IL fiduciary form I was on with the agent for 3 hours. finally they emailed me the form to download. I would really like a refund for all my hassle. $40

Good Expereince

The experience was great. I wish there was a little more information regarding where to put some service business cost of sales items. Otherwise really clear and easy to understand. I would also have like Montana Partnership to be an available option.

TurboTax For 1041's is better than nothing

This version (1041 for Trusts) pales in comparison to the Turbo Tax Personal version. It is much, much more difficult to enter information, there is little to no guidance on entering data on common forms, and the error-checking is ambiguous and circumspect--in one case, not thoroughly identifying the error. Even if the file passes through the menus to "Ready to file," an error (printing PA Trust return, to be specific), still pops up at the "Print for filing" stage, without describing what the error is or how to correct it. Simply ignoring it is the work-around, and that seems to have worked fine last year as well. Given some of the complexities in filing a non-personal return, it is better than nothing. It would be great if Intuit let the 1041 programmers out of the basement and into the light so that they could provide a product as good as the Personal Tax program created by their co-workers.

Trusts

I don't understand why the Trust Form 1042 software is sold with the Business software. I have 2 estate trusts and zero businesses. I don't need the Business software. You should sell the Trust software as a standalone product. This is what Taxact does.

Turbo Tax Needs to Fix Bug

Creating 1065 return was fine. Creating pdf's of partner k1's was painful and time consuming. Software repeatedly generated only the first 9 partner k-1's. No troubleshooting fixes remedied problem, which forced a very time consuming process of taking the master pdf containing all cover letters and k-1s (uncollated) and creating individual pdf's emailed to each partner.

Handle 1099-R's for Estate returns

When processing an Estate return, there might be retirement account(s) which specifically mention the Estate as the beneficiary (and not some individuals). This will result in 1099-R(s) being reported in the name of the Estate and thus need to be added to the Income side of the Estate's activities. TurboTax Business currently doesn't handle this case. It should be extended to include this.

Good - but still room for improvement

The Federal version of the Business software is a good value - helps us file most employer forms (albeit with some limitations) - handles returns a variety of types of entities The State version is wimpy, and costs $55 + tax for each state & each entity type ... which ends up costing far more than the Federal software. The error check in the AZ S-Corp version is NOT checking the prior year income field, which is needed to complete the return. I passed both Fed. & AZ error check, and while printing the returns it told me I had an error. I had to go back to the State & found that was a required field.
