Customer reviews for LG 5.3 cu. ft. Top Load Washer forMember photos
I look forward to laundry day
We purchased this washer in January 2025 after consulting Consumer Reports when our 24-year-old machine washed its last load. After our new washer was installed, the learning process for me began. This new machine isn't my grandmother's wringer washer, and I had to learn how to do laundry all over again. Since this washer senses the weight of clothes to be washed, I learned how to select the proper cycle for each load and have become quite pleased with its cycles and quiet performance. In fact, I look forward to laundry day. From washing a few small pieces to a queen-size blanket or winter coat, this machine does it all with cycles to match. I don't think we have ever had so many clean clothes in this house before! We couldn't be more pleased with the ability and performance of this WT8405CW washing machine.
Now that’s a laundry upgrade worth celebrating, David! ❤️ Your WT8405CW washing machine is redefining convenience—smart cycles, quiet performance, and powerful cleaning for everything from small loads to bulky blankets. We love hearing how it’s transformed your laundry routine into something you actually look forward to! Here’s to fresh, clean clothes every time! 😊 ^Anthony
Avoid This Machine
I really don’t like this machine. It does not have a soak cycle or option to soak clothes. That should be a standard feature. I’ve had to soak things in my bathtub then transfer to the washer. Also, the app sounds great in theory. In reality, every person that uses the machine would need to have the app. This purchase has been a huge disappointment.

Works well but softener dispenser clogs
Washer works well. It is reasonably quiet and has low vibration levels. Overall capacity is good, especially compared to our previous 20+ year-old washer. This is considered a high-efficiency washer, so you have to get used to the lesser amount of water it uses compared to older machines. The primary negative is the fabric softener dispenser clogs with the softener residue quite frequently. We have to remove and clean the dispenser tray after every 10 loads or so. It is a simple task, but really shouldn't be necessary that frequently.
Hi there, thank you for sharing your experience with the LG WT8405CW washer. It’s great to hear the quiet performance, low vibration, and spacious capacity have been a strong upgrade from your older machine. For the softener dispenser, we recommend diluting fabric softener with a little water before adding it, and rinsing the tray regularly to reduce residue buildup. Works well when you "fake it out"
I was drug kicking and screaming to this new washing machine after my 2008 direct drive Whirpool was making so much racket on the spin cycle it shook the house. I believed that any new washer would be inferior to that old classic, and I was right up to a point. The new washer takes longer to wash clothes but does get them clean enough when I take the proper precautions. Basically, when I load the machine I evenly spread out the clothes in the basket and then dump a 3 gallon bucket of water on them. Since there is no manual water setting, I have to "fake out" the weighing sensors to make them believe there is more clothes than are really there so I get enough water to go over the pile. I do this in conjunction with the deep fill setting and it does work great. I tried using AI Wash before trying this method and the results were disapointing. The upshot to this washer is that it does more effectively rinse out the clothes since they smell less like Tide than they did with the old washer. This model is good enough by modern washer standards, and that's really all you can expect.
Hi. Thank you for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review. We truly appreciate hearing about your journey from your previous brand to your new LG washer. It’s great to know that while the longer cycles take some adjustment, the deep fill setting and your method help achieve clean results, and that the rinse performance leaves clothes fresher with less detergent residue compared to your previous washer. Your insights about the weighing sensors and AI Wash are very valuable. For more feedback or questions, please send us an email at lgdigitalcare@lg.sprinklrsupport.com. Cheap plastic, but washes clothes well enough
14 months old and the lid hinge broke. It's 2 months passed warranty, so I went looking for a replacement lid. Can't find one anywhere. Used the chat to speak with a person and got the run around, they wouldn't give me a link to the part. Otherwise, the washing is good for my large household. 2+ loads a day, usually use deep wash + deep fill and our clothes are cleaner than I've been able to get them with all other washers. The only problem in that regard is the bleach dispenser doesn't mix with enough water and there's bleach spots on colored towels. I'd give it a 4 stars, but the lid breaking after only 14 months of use and being unable to find a replacement, knocked it down to "do not recommend".
Thank you for your feedback regarding your WT8405CW. We’re pleased the washer is performing well, and we apologize for the frustration with the lid hinge. LG Washer
We purchased the washer and dryer in December 2024 and it arrived in January 2025. The washer worked fine initially then after a month it hasn't worked correctly. The washer does not fill with a sufficient volume of water, even when you choose another option. I haven't had the time to call the manufacturer for repair or replacement, but I plan too.
Doesn't work
Lasted only 18 MONTHS. Will not power on now. Something should be done about this. Not fair after paying so much for it. LG will you stand behind your product????? Lets see.........

Nice, big washer!
Wow, this washer has a huge drum! The devise is easy to operate and my clothes are cleaned well. The unit is relatively quiet and it spin drys much better than my old machine. It also tells me on my phone when it's done!
Hi, Mon! We’re thrilled to hear how much you’re enjoying your LG Washer. That spacious drum, easy‑to‑use controls, quiet performance, and the strong spin‑dry are exactly the kind of features we love seeing make a difference in your laundry routine. Getting notifications right on your phone is a great bonus, too — it really brings the whole experience together! Thank you for sharing your wonderful 4‑star review and for choosing LG! #LifeisGood ^James
Waste of money
I wish I still had my old washer. It actually cleaned my laundry instead of just gently splashing it around in the tub. It also doesn't always fill with enough water
Hello. Thank you for sharing your experience with your LG washer. Wanting a stronger wash action and more water in the tub is completely understandable, especially if your previous washer operated differently. Many LG units use a high‑efficiency wash system that relies on specific load movement and sensing to determine water levels, and this can feel quite different from older models. This LG support article offers helpful guidance on wash performance and water‑level behavior: https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/lg-washer-troubleshooting-fills-too-slow-does-not-fill--1337717552954 To allow us to properly investigate the details of your specific product model and to see how we can assist with your wash‑performance and water‑level issue being encountered, please send us an email at lgdigitalcare@lg.sprinklrsupport.com if you need further assistance. So disappointed!
My front load washer that I had for 20+ years didn’t use enough water to really get the clothes clean, so I decided to finally go back to a top load and chose this one for its large capacity ability. Hoping to get my 11 small loads per week down to 5 larger ones. Thought I may be imagining it but I’m not, even when I add extra water I have CLOTHES COMING OUT OF A COMPLETE WASH CYCLE WITH DRY SPOTS. Attached pictures of my son’s summer weight joggers that were in an average load of socks, a couple t-shirts, pillow case and another pair of joggers. The light colored spots are completely dry while the dark spots wet. The “agitator” on this machine sucks. Instead of turning the clothes over from top to bottom (where they would actually get wet) it just wiggles one way and then reverses to wiggle the other way only scaring the clothes on the top halfway under water. I want my 27 year old washer with a true screw type agitator back that my mom is still using after all these years! No bells or whistles but it got clothes clean. There’s too much emphasis on “smart” appliances that interface with an app but can’t manage to do what you bought it for. I should throw my clothes in the bathtub and stomp on them like grapes and they would actually get clean and I could have saved myself a LOT of money.
Hey there! Thanks so much for sharing your detailed LG Washer experience. Ensuring your clothes get fully soaked for a proper clean after every cycle is important, so we'd love to help! If you notice some dry spots on your clothing after completing a cycle, it's possible the drum may be getting overfilled. We recommend ensuring your loads don't exceed more than 2/3rd's of the drum's capacity. To help ensure a proper soak, you can also try the Deep Wash cycle. Deep Wash provides additional water and washes heavily soiled mixed items, except delicate fabrics. If you still need help, please get in touch with us on social media @LGUSSupport with your contact info and model number. We'll gladly help out more! *Joseph
