Perfect for repotting

I am not an avid gardener. I do not have a green thumb. But I do enjoy having houseplants in my home, easy to take care of with minimum maintenance. They were a bit neglected and I needed to repot them. I appreciate that the packaging included repotting instructions to ensure I do it properly and with the least amount of disturbance. I also really like that this soil absorbs water easier than regular soil so there is less mess. The bag of soil is surprisingly a lot lighter than I expected which I appreciate.

Needs improvement!

I bought one bag because Sams didn’t have the Miracle Grow potting mix and a month later still doesn’t have it in. Disappointing! I was not impressed with the mm potting soil bag at all. Lots of bark pieces, soil didn’t smell earthy but smelled weird. There were no vermiculite particles visible at all but it had white cardboard type of materials stuck together and tissue paper types of pieces that on first glance looked like mold. It didn’t smell like mold though. I used it for a huge outdoor pot because I had emptied it. We recently had several days of freezing weather and I will need to replace a lot of plants but I guess HD will get my business for my soil. I’m a gardener and former nursery landscaping business owner. There is nothing better than Miracle Grow soil. Please restock as soon as possible. Thanks. Sorry for the not so good review! I love members mark products though!

Hi Grid- We’re sorry to hear about your experience. This mix is a premium blend of peat, composted softwood bark, composted forest products, perlite, fertilizer, and a wetting agent. The mix should contain smaller bark pieces to aid aeration and plant stability. If you’re seeing anything different, please call us at 1-800-285-7333, and our team will be happy to help resolve the issue.

way too much mulch - where's the soil?

i am not happy with this product. i always thought Miracle Gro has a lot of wood pieces in their potting mix, but upon opening my first bag of this Members mark potting mix, i was stunned. there was so much mulch in this potting mix, i had to sift through it first in order to fill a few small pots with actual soil instead of wood chips. very disappointing.

Good for pots and soil ammendment

Its not exactly what I was expecting, its not the black soil with vermiculite in it. However I certinly cant complain about the results, my ferns love it, also used it as in ground soil amandment and made my Ajuga, Liriopi, pencil Holly and Alyssum get a good start on spring.

This potting mix is junk

My wife has been potting plants for nearly 50 years and she said that this is the worst potting mix that she has ever seen. (Said it reminded her of mulch) It looks like mostly peat moss, with ALOT of wood chips, and a little bit of perlite. We threw it away as I wasn't about to try to seal the bag and haul it back for a refund. Hint, HEY SAM'S, not everything you sell needs to be Members Mark. The Miracle Gro sold the last few years was OK.

To soil or not to soil

The potting soil is moist and doesn't smell too bad. My husband is out green thumb and so he planted jalapeno seeds to try and make pepper plants. I replanted one of my plants that was failing in the pot it was in. This potting soil was better looking and the plants have began sprouting.

Member's Mark Potting Mix rates 1st place!

Member's Mark Potting Mix is my new favorite planting soil. The popular brand seems to hold too much moisture. I like to garden and raise plants from seed in a small greenhouse in the early spring. I have used several varieties of garden soil and really like MM soil better than the pricier brands.

Great feeding/watering system within the mix.

Ive used this potting mix for indoor plants and my plants have flourished and look healthy and beautiful. The mix which feeds the plant and also has an evenly distributed watering system is amazing. I look forward to using this outside and watch my flowers bloom.

Disappointing

While the price beats the name brand, the quality is just as low. This is more like double ground mulch. Lots of large pieces of sticks and wood. There were clumps of whitish grey that are probably either mold or fertilizer. Either way, not good for planting. I will likely spend the extra money and stick to the name brand next year.

Not what we expected

We felt the potting soil was more like mulch. Large chunks of wood. We tried it because Sam's did not have our usual potting soil for sale and because the price was very attractive. After working with this product for some deck containers, we will only use this for outdoor flower beds, where it can serve as a soil/mulch combo.
