Last year we had a 39 hour outage from a storm, so we paid $26,000 for a Generac Generator. 3 months later we had another outage. The generator went on and lasted 20 minutes, then had a catastrophic failure, spurting oil out everywhere. It had to be replaced with a new generator, AFTER our power was back on, after being off for 24 hours. Very Unhappy.

we have had our 22kw for about three month, and we had our first real "test" . this past Monday night. During a thunder storm, the power went out in large area of town and according to the news report , several thousand homes lost power for about 40 minutes. When in first went out, our power was off for about 15-20 seconds then the generator kicked on and we had power again. Our next door neighbors were on their way home on the interstate when all of the lights went out there. They said they drove home through the darkness seeing no lights except for those of cars until they turned on our street and our house was "lit up like a Christmas tree". The real test will come when we have our next hurricane.

The 22KW provided the "extra" power headroom I was looking for. With both a 5Ton A/C and a large media room, the extra output was welcome. The bonus with this unit is that, while costing only a few dollars more, it uses less NG or LP fuel then either the Generac 16 or 20KW units. Living in the Midwest, the Cold Start package was a welcome addition. Overall, a win-win solution.

We have had our 22KW Generator with Transfer switch a few days. We researched these generators for almost a year before picking the Generac. Our dealer did a great job in installing. setting it up and going over the details with us. We have a sump pump in the basement with a short term back-up, but the power has been off long enough for us to have to pack up a gasoline generator to keep the home from flooding. We now have complete peace of mind that not only the sump pump, but the entire house will not lose power again. It has given us the sensation of freedom from that worry ever again. Because we live in Connecticut where Eversource is a terrible supplier of power since every major storm knocks our power out for about 6 days, this unit has been very reliable since we had it installed in 2010. We have had three power outages of 6 days in that time, the latest from Tropical Storm Isaias which knocked out power for over 700,000 customers this past week. The generator started and ran for 6 days with no problems as it always has, powering 80% of our home with a steady, even supply of power. We have two propane tanks holding just over 200 lbs. of propane so the generator can run for 6 days without a refill. After six days we get the oil changed and the tanks refilled so it can go further, but usually right when we do that the power is restored. So this generator has been perfect for us. The unit has been hit by lightning once (we live on a 600 foot mountain on the top of it) so the motherboard has been replaced, and the engine recently needed to have its rubber oil seals replaced as it was leaking a little oil, but besides that the unit has held up tremendously well. If we need to replace it we will definitely buy Generac again as we have many times over saved a lot of money by not needing to go to a hotel when our power is out since we live on well water and without water - you cannot stay home very long even if you stock up on it.

Why did I pick a Generac Standby Natural Gas generator? There are many reasons. First, I purchased my first 15 KW Generator Standby Generator, Model 04760, in 2005. It has been through many power outages over the years and has come on overtime. Secondly, this year with Hurricane Irma, we lost power for over 60 hours and my Generac Generator worked continually with no problems. I had AC, lights, refrigerator, stove and everything else while most of my street did not. Could not ask for a more reliable unit. Thirdly, having Natural Gas to the generator provides the needed fuel without refilling anything tank. Fourth, the Automatic Transfer Switch worked just like it was design to do. This is some of the reasons, I had a new Generac 22 KW generator installed this past week. It quieter when running and Exercise Timer provides the necessary exercise of the generator on a week cycle.
