I purchased this October 26, 2020 and in the beginning of November the lid quit working properly. I wish I had noticed it in late October for I would have returned it or asked for help under the 1 year warranty. I loved it while it lasted but at this point it is just not good. New batteries didn't help. It's unfortunate because I really liked the way it worked. Now it barely opens a few inches and I have to touch it to close it.

These two Stainless Steel are great. A simple wave of your hand over the lid and it opens. This is super handy when your hands are full. I have had a set for several years, so I purchased a set for my father. They are a great help to him when he has his hands full and especially since he has arthritis in his hands. They are also very easy to clean when necessary.

Nine-Stars USED to be a better quality a few years ago...I've owned 4 such cans over the past 5 years; and for the last 3 years, the quality and craftsmanship of their garbage can has deteriorated to nothing but "Garbage"...and Yes, absolutely, the pun is INTENDED. After about 6-months of usage the sensor to open/close the lid wore off, the battery compartment's design is such that the cheap quality of plastic lid fails to hold the weight of three C-batteries (used to be 'D' batteries in the older version of these trash cans) needed to operate the lid, and thus the batteries along with it cover lid tends to fall in the trash can; and if not aware or careful when changing the garbage bag, they will be lost in the trash. If the battery compartment is intact, the lid goes "crazy" and become temperamental after a while and starts flipping Open/Close on its own randomly all through the day...obviously draining the batteries and in the process "scares" people/guests, especially, in the middle of night. This anomaly also tends to wear off the lid's gear used for opening/closing it, as it is made out of cheap plastic; as well as the hinges that hold the lid. I've never had better than 1-year's of decent use of these trash cans; after that, it is a pain and needs to be replaced often at about $80 a pop. Nine Stars does offer replacement lids and other accessories, however, they are quite expensive. And mind you, this is very objectively written review without any bias and completely based on normal day-to-day usage. I just ordered a competition brand of manual step-on can over Black Friday, 2015. In a nutshell, Buyer beware... based on my last few years of experience. Just my honest 2 cents.

The lid to the big trash can will consistently turn off and stop working. The whole purpose of buying a trash can with a lid that opens with motion is because you don't want to have to touch the trash can period. Having to push the button after each use defeats the purpose of even having this trash can. Not worth my money considering it broke after a couple of months.

I originally purchased a much larger nine star automatic sensor garbage bin that was too big for the kitchen as it was the only size on sale when I purchased the original. Though it also worked great, I gave it away and purchased this set which has been a pleasant addition to my kitchen. It’s battery operated and doesn’t open just because you walk by it. It opens with a gentle wave above the sensor. Once opened, it’ll stay open for a few seconds so trash can be thrown in before it closes on its own. If you’d like it to stay open longer, just press the open button and it’ll stay open until you press the close button. It’s tall, slim, and perfect. Works like a charm and I couldn’t be happier.

This stainless set is rated for indoor use, but I bought it for our outdoor grill area. There are always meat or vegetable wrappers & paper plates to discard. This made it very convenient. I use the small one at out outdoor bar area. Much appreciated by our guests. They not only look great but function well as I don't need to touch a germ filled trashcan & then make burgers or drinks. Quiet operation is a plus.

The larger lid quit opening, it only opens if you push the open button & only closes if you push the close button! Batteries are fine. Found online info to remove batteries for several hours to reset. Auto open/close worked for a day or two, then back to buttons. Removed batteries again, only auto open/close once or twice. Very irritating, company doesn't sell part, only entire lid for $35-40! Loved it when it worked!

Large can worked fine. Small one did not. After providing proof of purchase twice to the manufacturer, I still couldn't get a return authorization number in order to send it in for repair/replacement. Think twice about customer support from Ninestars.

Quiver would barely lift the first week of use. Tried a different brand of battery, that seemed to help. Now nothing seems to help. The cover won't lift even with fresh batteries. On the rare occasion it functioned "normally" it was nice but that happened so rarely I can't recommend it.

These trash cans are very Efficient and work very well
