Good but lacking power

I bought this for my camper. I realized it wasn't powerful enough to run my ac unit so bought another to run in parallel and still wouldn't run my ac. Good for smaller items just disappointed I now have 2 and still not powerful enough for my needs. Will run a fridge no problem though.

I've had the iq3500 for 3 months

... and it cranks good and runs quiet , -- until I plug in something in. Then it makes a whistling or whining noise that is louder than the motor. Called all repair people in my area to check it out and all that are still in business say they only work on whole home generators. 2 of them kindly looked at it and listened and said it may be supposed to make that noise. It charges fine an for now I'll try to enjoy the whistling.

I'm an architect and I specify emergency power for big projects

This product provides a thoughtful balance of power, economy, and ease of use to solve the problems of power outages and day trips to places without power. It is not a construction generator but will let you run consumer tools one at a time. I use it to run my coffeemaker OR my refrigerator during power outages. In addition you can charge your stuff and run a bunch of LED lights.

Generac GP2200I Generator

Bought online thru HomeDepot.ca.. Recieved approx month ago.. first out of the box started hard. three or more pulls.. then when it did start ran rough and surging .. Tried again couple of weeks later and same. hard to start and surging etc.. Note new gas installed when recieved. Tried again last Friday and the same thing..... Called Generac and got name of approved Generac sales/service in my area here in NB Can. called both and neither would do anything for this unit. Contacted a local shop who does small engine repair (not authorized dealer of General.. Took it in to them and got it back yesterday.. had to to a clean up and tune up. they said it was a gas problem mostly as there was gunk in the carb. total cost to me $69.00 canadian.. now it works fine.. Am I pleased with it. yes NOW but had to fork out that money for a unit that had approx 1 hr. running time. not overly pleased bu guess I will have to live with it..

Guage required for 50ft extension

I need to connect the 2200i to 50ft extension cable to run fridge/ freezer & tv & some lights from one of the standard plug sockets. What guage extension cord do I need? Can I run second extension cord off the first, or do I need to get another 100ft extension cord for the other plug on the generator so I can also run tv & lights - as circa 50ft away from fridge. Struggling to work this out before I can test generator. Thanking you in advance. Will update rating once I can use generator.

Generac has great features

Being in my late seventies this unit was recommend by my son in law because it would be lighter and quieter. We do a lot of ice fishing and the dealer also recommends this unit to handle all of our needs. It also has sleek features and handles easily.

Hard ramp up, but after that a great unit !

First day I got it was really hard to get it working, 5 attempts or more every time I wanted to start the Inverter, the second day was a little bit easier. Its been in use for 4 days now, starting is no longer a problem, I can get it running every time at the first try. Don´t know if it was part of the break in period or what. Unit is super capable, I can run an electric grill and a Makita saw at the same time with no trouble. Fuel efficiency is great on econo mode. The only down to this product is the weight, You need two strong guys to load it into a pickup truck, if you are camping with the wife probably the generator will stay in the car 'cause its really heavy.

Great features

Purchased the GP5500 as a emergency power source after a recent hurricane that came from the gulf up through most of the state of Louisiana. I worked at a big box store and compared prices on line and decided to purchase the generac because of the good reviews and the price was great. I got it home and it took about thirty minutes to set up and got it running. The unit started on it's first pull. I like the no flat tires that is included. Like most reviewers stated, the unit is louder than some other brands. I prefer noise over no power at all. Luckily we haven't had to utilize the unit yet but hurricane season is in full swing right now.

So far so good

I bought one of these used and according to the emission sticker it's 18 months old. First thing I did was run it for 9 hours with various motor loads. Even though the manual says not to run induction motor loads in economy mode, the step motor picked up the load very quickly and efficiently. So I think I used about 3 quarts of gas in 9 hours. I'm going over it carefully. The intake valve was fine, but the exhaust valve was way too tight. Easily adjusted. Having the operators manual and the parts lists online is great, but having a real Generac Diagnostic and Repair Manual would be nice, too. Think maybe we can get one of those for this model some day?

Unbelievably quiet!

After doing lots of research online I chose this generac model and have not been disappointed! It is incredibly quiet even under load. The efficiency mode is a nice option for lighter loads to conserve fuel. The only issue I have is the generator is a bit heavy for one person but can be managed if necessary. A wheel kit would make it about perfect if one were available. The electric start is a great feature and pull start is not difficult if needed. Started right up out of the box and have had no issues, it runs the ac unit on my 32 foot travel trailer with no problem. Highly recommend this model, quality well built generator as the ne would expect from Generac.
