My wife drives over three hours to pick up this flour at Sam’s Club in Minnesota. (We live in central Iowa, and they won’t carry it there anymore). Dakota Maid bread flour makes GREAT bread and baked goods. It doesn’t have bleach, bromine, and nasty chemicals like that which the competitors use. Do your homework and see what’s in the “cheap stuff”. You’ll realize why my wife only uses Dakota Maid bread flour in her baking business. It works and tastes great!!!

So far its working out great for my sourdough. Im on a fix income and I'm just learning sourdough . I haven't really seen any difference to the more expensive King Arthur or even the store brand bread flour. It has a 12.6 protein which is great. Just try it. Think you will like it.

This is the only flour I use for sourdough. High protein content, unbleached and cost effective. Couldn’t ask for more. Sam’s Club stopped carrying the 25lb bags. Happy you started!

I love this flour and it makes decent bread, but it is NOT a high protein flour. Look at nutrition info - there is 3 g of protein in 31 grams of flour. 3/31 is 0.0967 that is 9.7% protein. High protein is considered above 12 %. I get pretty good sourdough bread with this flour, but I started adding vital wheat gluten to to flour to boost the percentage up to 13 percent. So, for every 100 grams of flour, I add 8.14 g of gluten. Now my artisan breads are amazing and comparable to an artisan bakery. 13% protein flour isn't available in my area, Dakota Maid is the closest I can get to a higher protein content. Have used it for years, but wondered what I could do to improve the oven spring in my bread .. . it's all about the protein.

With the prices of groceries rising I've gotten back into making my own breads, rolls, buns, and pizza dough from scratch, and having quality bread flour has made that so much easier and more delicious in terms of texture! I also use this for my sourdough starter and having a "local" (just over the state border) option that is completely unbleached has resulted in some amazing bread. Not sure of the science as to why, but there's a considerable difference. Highly recommend!
