I always use Kingsford matchlight charcoal in my smoker, and it has always been a dependable product. I used it as usual last night and the bag burned out in about 1 hour and 45 minutes. This has never happened before and I am wondering if there was a problem with the bag I bought.

We purchased Kingsford Match Light Charcoal because there were no regular Kingsford Charcoal available. We used this charcoal for a Sunday night grill out. We noticed a STRONG smell of lighter fluid when my husband put them in the grill. This awful smell filled our house as well. We hoped when it was lite that the smell would subside. After the charcoal was ready to grill our chicken, we finished up with the other side dishes. We sat down to eat and we both ate a few bites realizing the taste of the lighter fluid was so strong on the chicken we could not eat it and I also had stomach issues the last two days. We not only felt sick to our stomachs but we lost 2 lbs. of chicken as well. I am very disappointed with Kingsford Match Light Charcoal and would never purchase this again. If we could have selected a rating lower than poor, we would have! Sincerely, Jenny & Bill

I bought a bag of Match Light to take a baseball game to tailgate beforehand. We could not get the coals to light. We even tried burning part of the bag to ignite the coals. Still didn’t work. We ended up eating the overpriced food in the ballpark spending about $150 rather than the good food we brought.

Bought a bag of matchlight 2 wks ago and just opened to use last night. I couldn't get lit after several attempts. Finally had to go to store for fluid. Very disappointed. Told daughter about and she said had same problem with bout a year ago. Will never buy again. It was both time consuming and wound up costing me more in long run.

The briquettes started up without a fuss. First use was great. I cooked salmon a few inches away from the ashen briquettes, no problem. The next time I was cooking steak and wanted more heat so I moved the steak closer to the briquettes. It ruined the flavour of the steak. I was also cooking plaintain which did not acquire the off flavour. I am not sure what happened. I read that cold meat can have wood creosote deposited on it with smoke, a common problem when smoking meat. My mouth felt a bit numb after eating the steak. I also read that lump gets hotter than briquettes so maybe this product is better for slow cooking? I was also just worried that I harmed myself and my guest by consuming the meat that had been seemingly tainted by the briquettes. Please let me know what you think happened.

Maybe I bought a bad batch but I have had no luck with this bag of grill coals. I have some coals that look like they have been dried out and none of the coals will light. I hate using lighter fluid and probably won't but this will most likely be my last time buying this product.

I grill al the time and for me the Kingsford match Light are the best around they are quick to burn so you can start cooking within minutes they burn evenly and leave no charcoal taste in your mouth i have tired other brands of instant light but i didnot care for them at all . thanks for making a great product

Bought this two days ago to use on my new grille, I spent five minutes trying to light the charcoal with matches and a lighter with no luck. I had to add a good amount of lighter fluid, it seemed like every briquette needed to be coated to work. This product was not worth the money.

The grocery store I use ran out of the Kingsford original that I normally buy. So instead they had the Match Light, so I got a 12.4lb bag. I've read alot of negative comments on this website about them being difficult to light, heavy fuel smell, etc. For me, these worked as advertised!! I stacked a charcoal chimney full, lit em up and within 10 minutes I had a hot fire going on my offset smoker. They cost a bit more, but since no fuel is required it's about the same as the regular briquettes. Would definetly buy again in a pinch. Kingsford's the best!

I have a terrible time using lighter fluid. I hate the smell and the way it starts the charcoal. I was always afraid I would burn myself. Three months ago, I had a friend tell me he would bring a bag of Match Light over to try, since he was the one grilling I said sure. I could not believe how it worked. I have used Match Light ever since. It only takes a few minutes until it's ready. I have no trouble lighting it and no smell. I will be trying the hickory chips next.
