Bought large bag of Kingsford Matchlight charcoal so I could just light it and be done. However, after 20 minuets of trying to light it, finally gave up and cooked inside. I tried matches, paper, fully lit matchbooks to no avail. I would never buy this charcoal again. Waste of money!!

The Good Charcoal Company has excellent charcoal for grilling. I have grilled with this charcoal three times so far, and each experience has been very satisfying. I will purchase another bag in the near future. This charcoal has become my go to when I want to grill. I love it.

Two stars because it works as charcoal and although I was able to light it without lighter fluid much of the charcoal was wasted waiting for the 'match light' to burn off. I would like to start by pointing out that this was fresh charcoal. I returned from the store with it, poured a third of the bag into the grill, moved the stragglers onto the mound, and tried to light it. I remember when match light meant just that. You would toss a match on, hear a slight whoosh, and your coals would be on their way to heating up. However, I can certify this charcoal as 100% whoosh free. I started off with a BBQ lighter, trying to light coals along the outside and the top. I then attempted holding the lighter under a briquette for about thirty seconds; nothing. At this point, I decided to upgrade to a kitchen torch. Even with the high-temperature lighting was difficult. I had to hold the torch in place until a part of one of the briquettes was hot. Finally, there were some flames, but only above the briquette that I torched. I proceeded to light a few briquettes in different areas this way. There was now a slow process of lumps of coal being heated by adjacent coals until it produced some flame. After thirty minutes, about 70% of the coals had ash but there was still a visibly cold spot. I aimed the kitchen torch for a gap in the center of the cold spot and torched it until I ran out of butane. By the time the final coals were heated and I was no longer concerned about match light chemicals burning off while I was cooking other coals were nearing the end of their life.

When you have a family waiting for dinner it is wonderful to just go out and light the briquettes. Easy and quick, just right for a working family. Light the briquettes, assemble your items for dinner and by that time the coals are just right for cooking. I would recommend this product to everyone.

Bought a bag of matchlight 2 wks ago and just opened to use last night. I couldn't get lit after several attempts. Finally had to go to store for fluid. Very disappointed. Told daughter about and she said had same problem with bout a year ago. Will never buy again. It was both time consuming and wound up costing me more in long run.

I love the match light charcoal! i always hated putting the lighter fluid on the charcoal because it smelled so bad and i was always afraid that the fumes were soaking into my food. i don't worry about that with match light and it is SO MUCH EASIER to light.

I used to buy matchlight all the time. With recent poor results of having an entire bag not wanting to light I switched to HEB brand. Now I have moved and there is no HEB I decided to try matchlight again. Bought a 11.6 lb bag to find out they were again just rocks. Now looking for another brand.

Maybe I bought a bad batch but I have had no luck with this bag of grill coals. I have some coals that look like they have been dried out and none of the coals will light. I hate using lighter fluid and probably won't but this will most likely be my last time buying this product.

We bought a bag of Sure Fire Grooves to take on vacation because we didn't want to take lighter fluid and thought they would be easy. They would not light after repeated attempts until we put card board and newspaper under the briquets. They finally started and took much longer then the 10 minutes it states on the bag. I will never buy them again.

This product does what it's supposed to do. Light it in several places, wait till the flame dies down and then get to grilling. If the heat gets low, put a lid on the grill or take the lid off and the heat builds up again. The smoky flavor gets in the food. The temperature has nothing to do with the charcoal, it has to do with the person controlling the grill. Started grilling early and 4 hours later, we are still grilling. Only complaint is that it takes a little more than 10 minutes for the flames to die down but no biggie. It's all about flavor for me. Great product, would recommend it, won't use anything else even if the price was more than I was willing to spend.
